Eyes watched with interest. Black and deep, they watched the moves of Joel and his pokemon. It fluttered it's wings, but stayed in the deep tree as it covered it's face by the shadow casted from the branches. It flickered as the Totodile had learned a new water move. Interesting. It's eyes flickered back to the trainer, who was typing on some sort of thing. What was it? The mysterious pokemon wondered. He had seen many trainers before, nervous with starter pokemon, but he never seen that little machine before. He clacked his beak in wonder, but knew he might be fought if he went down there.
He muttered something about 'this being a bad idea' but went anyway. The Spearow flapped it's wing and landed on the ground, close to the route, as it tilted it's head in confusion. <Do you mind me asking what that is?> Probably wouldn't get a response, but hey, he was curious. His eyes flickered between Raptor and the trainer, hoping not to be attacked, for he was above that himself, but would attack if provoked.

Joel looked over at the Spearow, while sitting down typing on his laptop. "Oh, hello, Spearow." He held his Poke-Dex out to scan it, and collected its data. Raptor was scared for a second, but saw the little bird's intentions were not to bring any harm. <W-Well.. I don't really have any idea myself. It seems like some sorta machine used to show something..>
Raptor winced a bit. <Actually, it's kind of scary! It just.. keeps changing colors.> Joel looked at Raptor and the Spearow with confusion. He looked at the two Pokemon talking to each other, the Spearow apparently gartering attention about the notebook on Joel's lap. "Oh!" They must be wondering what my computer is. He held it out to them. "This is a computer laptop. It's small, so you can carry it around, but you can use it like a machine."
Still, Raptor tilted his head. <Computer? Laptop?> Joel tried to give them the simplest explanation ever, but it still didn't work- to Raptor, at least. "You understand, right, Spearow?" It's no Dia.. but it'll help complete my Poke-Dex. Perhaps I'll move it to Mahogany's PC, and continue that hunt for that elusive 'invisible pokemon. For a second, he held his head back. It could just be another wild rumor.. Who knows, maybe it was just sketched on so people could be mislead?

((OOC: FINALLY! Sorry if it's crappy. I'm not feeling very well and don't feel like typing much tonight. =/))
Hessa had been wandering around on Route One for a while now, ever since that morning, to be more specific. The girl and her Cupie had been moving through the grass quite happily together; enjoying the sun, taking pictures of the scenery-- those sorts of things. Every now and again they would relax in the grass or under a tree, just to be sure they weren't overdoing things. Of course Hessa knew she was fine but she was being careful for her new friend.
During one of these restful periods in the grass, Drea resting on Hessa's stomach at the time, a sound drifted to their ears. It was a voice. A boy's voice. He seemed to be explaining something to someone. From what she could pick up it had something to do with a laptop.
Curiosity taking over the girl got to her feet, the Cupie taking flight and following close to her trainer. Carefully and quietly the two peeked up over some tall grass and met the sight of a boy, a Totodile, and a Spearow.
Interesting.
The girl waited patiently and silently with a serious expression. She wanted to see if the boy was planning on catching the bird. It would be fun to watch. The thing was, watching someone else was never as fun as doing it yourself. Hessa hoped she would catch another pokemon of her own soon.

Joel averted his conversation with Raptor and the Spearow. "I'm sorry, but I think I see somebody." Raptor flinched. He didn't want to know who it was. What.. What if it wanted to hurt him? Eat him? Even worse, what if it wanted to hurt Joel? He was too scared, and cowered. However, he realized the Spearow was there. He had no reason to be afraid- two against one is an easy sweep, right? Unless.. there wasn't one!
<W-W-Who.. Who do you think Joel is looking at?> Joel took a long gaze at the grass. If it's hostile, I strike. He bit his bottom lip. If it's safe, I act friendly.. but.. I better be careful. He slowly approached, closing his laptop and putting it in his backpack. Upon further inspection, however, he saw it was a female Trainer and her Cupie.
Oh! She shouldn't be too bad. She's just a newbie, like me, right? There's no problem.. He smiled, and held his hand up in greeting. Raptor followed soon after, trying to motion for the apparently friendly Spearow to follow. <If they want to attack, could you help us?> He sort-of winced. <Unless you don't wanna put yourself in danger, don't do it.> "Hello, there!"

The three noticed something creeping in the tall grass. Noticed Hessa. Well that wasn't really a surprise sense she was no ninja, or anything else with the ability to move with complete stealth. There was no point in hiding now; the girl figured that she might as well see if he was catching the thing while she was in view.
When the boy moved closer to investigate Hessa straightened up a little more. Once her yellow eyes met his she blinked and smirked, "If you're not careful your chance to catch that Spearow will fly away," she nodded in the direction of the bird. In response to his greeting she simply stood up straight and gave a single wave. She really wanted to see him go after that pokemon.
Drea stayed close to her trainer, still flying right next to her. Pink wings flapped quietly and her little tail swished from side to side. She looked at the boy and two pokemon with curious black eyes, tilting her head in interest.
<What are your names?> the pokemon inquired in that native language of pokemon.

<Lap?Top?> He was utterly confused. Why did they need a Lap Top? He mentally shrugged. Humans were weird, so why not? His eyes flickered to the Totodile, who was confused as well. <Sorry, but I don't really..> He saw the Totodile flinch, and he followed Joel's gaze to a girl. <Perhaps someone? Don't look threatining. Then again you never know.> He blinked, slowly copying the emotion. <Sure I suppose.> This pokemon was rather civil. He was very polite, and calm. He tilted his head at the Cupie. Never seen that before. He thought softly.
<I might. I suppose it depends.> he said, eyes following the girl, and he went back to a casual stance, though upright. Kinda natural for him. He enjoyed company, even though they don't always enjoy him, so he usualy flew away when they seemed annoyed. However, these people seemed quiet nice. His eyes went to the Cupie as she spoke. <I don't really have a name I suppose. Most people just call me Hae, but I don't count it as my official name.> he tried to explain himself to the little pink dragon. Curious he hopped a bit close. <May I return your question, as to who you are? And perhaps what as well? I've never seen your kind here, so I am quiet curious.> He blinked at the dragon.

Joel looked pretty nonchalant as of yet. What do I have to worry about? It's another trainer. If she wants to 'cross swords' with me, that's her business. "The Spearow is free to do as he pleases. See, I've just entered a battle with my Totodile, and while we have received a good rest, I don't feel up to a battle." He rubbed the back of his neck. "That is, unless you want one."
Raptor looked at the pink dragon with somewhat confusion. <I-I haven't seen any Pokemon that looks like you, either.> He shook his head. <I'm Raptor. It's n-nice to meet you.> Why does this plain have to be full of Flying Pokemon? T-They're everywhere. I'm afraid one's going to swoop down and nail me on the head!
Joel walked further up to Hessa, until he could see her eyes directly. I was right. The eyes of a Trainer.. Please, don't ask to battle! He held his hand out. "And you are?" He had to be courteous with any trainer, even the slow Theodore he battled a while back. That tactful Meowth did put up more of a fight than Theodore's ideas. He chuckled to himself a bit. Which is strange, because his tactics were great, albeit a bit too long to take.

Hessa observed the wild Spearow and tame Totodile as they seemed to converse with her companion. The Spearow behaved differently than the Spearows she had heard about. She was under the impression that the birds were vicious, wild creatures that when angered attacked in groups. But this one... he was so calm and willing to talk. The Totodile was acting differently than what she had heard as well. She thought they were supposed to be loud and hyper but this guy seemed so timid. So it seemed that pokemon had surprising personalities just like people.
The bird hopped a little closer to the two girls and replied to Cupie. The little dragon flew out of the grass and landed on the ground where she could introduce herself more formally to the two pokemon, <My name is Drea! That girl,> she motioned to Hessa behind her, <Named me! It's cool, huh? And I'm a Cupie. I don't see many others like myself either but it sure would be cool!> She was acting like her cheerful self, smiling at the pokemon.
Meanwhile Hessa took the boy's hand and introduced herself as well, "I'm Hessa, what's your name?" her eyes stared into the other's, "And I think if you're not going to catch that Spearow then I will. That is, unless..." her smirk turned into a grin, "Lets battle! The winner gets to fight and capture that wild pokemon!"

Joel sighed. Once more, he'd be forced into a battle because the rule of trainer's eyes meeting. He pinched the middle of his eyes. "Well, fine, if you say so. However, I'm not going all the way to the Pokemon Center. If any of us lose, I'll step in and heal the Pokemon, that is, if it's too weak that its health stays on edge." Raptor looked up at Joel. <..Again?> "Oh, right. My name is Joel." He pointed and sent out Raptor. <Hae, can you please move back? W-we're gonna battle again.> Raptor began to step back a bit in fear. "Raptor, this is just like last time! Don't forget that we've got a slight upper hand!" Joel tried to pep Raptor up. "You can do it if you really try!" He waited for Hessa's reaction. "Hessa, know this: I'm not going to make this a farce. Get ready, because I won't hold back." Suddenly, Joel just stood there, blank-minded. What was going on? You could look at him, but it seemed as if he were a zombie. Was this happening again? Joel woke up in a strange hall with scrolling marquee words on it. There were stalagmites and stalactites everywhere. For some odd reason, it was some sort of natural hall in a cave. In its walls, there was a wall with strange glowing dots, and some of the dots scrolled to make letters and form words, like marquee. It seemed to show his thoughts. He woke up in.. Lumine Hall. It's hard to believe you're going at it again. Are you sure this is the best choice? You don't want to overdo Raptor and make him exhausted by constant work. "I'm sure." There's no telling where you might end up. This is your second battle. While your training might be worth it, remember to always have caution. Joel held his hand out in objection and confusion. "Wait!" Suddenly, everything started to turn bright white. Everything shone, and Joel felt as if he had no form. In a daze, Joel woke up again, just standing there. Was I.. going through some sort of daydream? Raptor looked at the back-from-zombification Joel. W-what just happened to Joel?

Hessa shrugged a moved further back, to give the pokemon a larger space to battle within, "Sure, if you want to heal them you can," she was still grinning, her eyes sparkling with excitement. This was going to be her very first pokemon battle. After the Totodile was sent out Hessa did the same with her Cupie. "Believe that if you want but we're both still just beginners here. It can go either way," she laughed, "I wouldn't expect anything less from a serious trainer! I won't be holding anything back either."
The little pink dragon moved to where her trainer pointed and took flight. She wasn't very high off of the ground but she certainly felt more comfortable, <I'm ready when you are, Hessa!> Suddenly the Cupie was a lot more serious. She would take battling as seriously as her companion.
However, when Hessa was about to give her first order, her opponent seemed to completely zone out. Confused she blinked, as she often did when she didn't quite get what was going on, "Uhh... Joel?" she moved past the Totodile and went right up to the young trainer, Joel? waved a gloved hand in front of his face but earned no response, "Yo! Joel! Anyone in there?"
<What's wrong with him?> the Cupie questioned the Totodile, assuming that he would know.
Hessa narrowed her eyes. This couldn't be a normal occurrence. Could it?
Then, after a few moments of silence, Joel opened his dark brown eyes, "Joel? What was all that about?" she questioned with her brow wrinkled in confusion.

Hae's eyes flickered between the two. <Very well. Nice to meet you Drea as well.> He didn't want to forget his manners, before he hobbled back to stay clear of any missed attacks. Fighting to capture him? A bit absurd in his own mind, but he wouldn't argue in their decision. His black eyes flickered to the boy, Joel, he thought he heard. He seemed disconnected. Like he was in another world? He didn't know besides his zombified look gave him a bit of a chill.
He ruffled his feathers, a bit uneasy in a way, but he shook that feeling from his mind. Their battle was about to go underway, and he was a bystander... a prize in a way. It made him feel a bit awkward, as his instincts of a bird screamed in his head. It told him to run, and fly away, to stay free. But that would be rude. He fought his own self conscious in the matter, and tried to stay focus. He didn't want to be hit by any stray attacks.

After Joel's wild trip, he felt sort of discombobulated. "I-I'm fine." Raptor started to think a little. I'm sure Joel's fine.. I'm sure Hae went out of the way so we can fight.. I don't want to be forced in this situation, but apparently, now I'm supposed to. I've got to warm up to Joel. It's only our first day, and we've entered our second battle.. Please do good! He shook his head, and signaled to Joel he was ready. "One more thing.." He took out his Remoor-Dex and recorded Cupie's data. "Okay, Raptor. I'm going to do this for you." He took out a Potion, and set it on his pocket. He knew by now, Raptor's slight wounds should have healed completely. "You're not gonna be anything like Theodore. You're going to be much, much stronger." He crackled the backs of his knuckles for a second. Alright, Joel. Let's not overdo it. Now, this is another Trainer. She doesn't know of my special tactic of using the vast grass of the plains. If I can use this along with Water Gun, I bet I can do some sort of sniping strategy! Joel's brain was being racked, preparing for the battle. He was only thinking for about 45 seconds or so. No.. she has to be more clever. I've got to try, still! <Joel is fine, Drea. I know he is, because, well.. He put himself back together that fast!> "Raptor!" Raptor immediately stood to attention. "Take to the grass!" They were surrounded by the tall grass in the plains. "Strafe and Water Gun!" Raptor had to inch around slowly in the grass to avoid being seen, and moved directly 180 degrees around Drea. Aiming at a certain arc, Raptor took in some watery oxygen from t he air and blasted a Water Gun at Drea, hoping to score a direct hit. If this hits, then I can probably follow up with a charging Scratch attack. In doing so, then I can continue with this guerrilla tactic, blending in and striking. At the same time, she may get suspicious of these constant attacks, and start aiming strikes of that Dragon-type of hers at the Grass, which can get Raptor side-tracked. I have to blend both spontaneous striking with stealth striking. He adjusted the collar of his jacket once more. Engaging her from the blind-spot could work very well, it being unguarded. He calculated the situation. Attacking from an unexpected area would be perfect. He saw a vision of Raptor blasting the Water Gun. Immediately, the Cupie would use some sort of attack to retaliate and keep Raptor away, but the immediate scratch afterwards would not only knock it into attention, but daze it from surprise. Perfect.Joel took in some memory of previous fights. He had to make a compilation of all experiences, even if he just started. In fact, he also thought about using strategies from his trips on the sea with his family and crew. He remembered when pirates attacked the ship, and how the crew acted bravely by repelling them through sheer barrage. If I used that barrage attack, then it could work for the better. She'd be forced backwards from fear, but then again, Raptor is just one Pokemon, and to my knowledge, there are no moves that would enable him to move forward and sally forth with no problem. Joel kept concocting ideas in his head that would work against a formidable opponent such as Hessa. He knew he would have to split hairs in order to counteract anything. He saw her eyes, and knew that he had to go all out, especially against a trainer as tough as she would happen to be. No matter how far you'll move, I'll be there with you. "H-huh?" Joel was having another small vision, except he was in no trance. He felt a voice, a voice he never heard before. It sounded unique, as if it were from some Pokemon like Bill. However, it sounded much like the cries Totodile make. It can't be Raptor. He can't even talk! The heat has to be affecting my edge. I just can't worry about it at a time like this. Focus, Joel! You'll need every last bit of it if you want to fight![715]

She didn't get a reply to her question as to what just happened to him. It seemed he was ready to get right into the battle after all. Putting on a confidant expression once again Hessa jogged away from Joel, to get some distance for the fight, and to better see what was going on. She fixed her gloves, pulling them up so as to be sure they wern't coming loose, and tossing her red and black bag to the side, out of the way, she prepared for a fight.
"This Totodile has battled before, meaning he's probably a slightly higher level than Drea," she bit her nail as she thought, "However if we win-- no, scratch that. When we win the experience gained will be that much greater!" Hessa took note of the battle field. It was completely covered with long grass. The whole route was! "I'll have to be careful of that."
Once the other ordered his pokemon into the grass Hessa narrowed her eyes. She knew what he was up to. He wanted to fight where Raptor could not be seen so he could perform sneak-attacks. As if she would let that happen! As soon as the water gun blasted out of the grass Hessa reacted, "Fly over the grass!"
<Eep!> the Cupie took flight just in time, the water gun streaming out just under her and splashing into the ground. Good thing she was part flying-type! The clear liquid soaked into the soil, which darkened it some. The plants would be happy for that.
"Drea! Locate that Totodile and when you do use Tackle!" Drea nodded and did just that. The little dragon followed the path of water and looked from above the grass to where Raptor was. Within the green blades hid something blue, shadowed only a little by the ever growing plants. As soon as Drea spotted the little blue crocodile she dropped from the air, aiming her attack at the top of Rapor's head. If the attack hit it would hurt considering the location of his body it would come into contact with.
Hessa smirked and clenched her fists in excitement. The black material of her gloves made a sound from the grinding caused from tightening her grasp. She couldn't help but glance at the little, seemingly civil Spearow for a second. Oh how she wanted to catch the little flying-type. She returned her entire focus to the fight at hand.
"Don't worry, Drea! We've got this!"

Joel bit the bottom of his lip. He was feeling pressured. He was frustrating. Damn.. that Cupie is fast. No! Even if it's coming for Raptor, I've got to be his second mind! Raptor, on the other hand, felt a great disappointment. I was sure that would hit.. Wait! It's coming right for me! Joel, do something! Joel rushed ahead.
This is no time to think. I've got to make Raptor use- Joel realized something. "No! Raptor, quick!" Joel balled up his hands into fists. "Don't let that Cupie hit you! Move backwards, while it's bulleting downwards!" Raptor moved right in front of Drea, yet his trajectory was sure to avoid her impact. "Now, Water Gun! Aim it DIRECTLY at her head, with the best force you possibly can!"
Raptor quickly nodded. Absorbing as much water from the soil and air he could, he made a bursting Water Gun, attempting to nail Drea straight in the head and eyes. If possible, this could distract and obscure the Cupie's sight, allowing us to do another attack. However, if she somehow dodges the attack, then I'm expecting it to use another Tackle, or any other offensive strike. Thus, I'm going to have to get it to stop.
Unfortunately, how DO I? Joel pondered it, while Raptor's charged up Water Gun was being fired. That's it! I'll use Leer. Out of fear, the Cupie may be paralyzed, or its attacking ability should be significantly decreased. Seeing as the Pokemon is still young, it may only rely on physical attacks, not ones of the Special persuasion.
Joel simulated the situation once more. He visualized Raptor blasting the Water Gun at Cupie. He looked at two ideas- hit, or not hitting. If it hit, then the Cupie's line of sight may be harmed. If that happens, Hessa may get it to shake it off by using the speed of a Tackle attack. It allows a perfect opportunity to use a Scratch attack, nailing the Cupie in the head, and surely resulting in a critical hit.
If it didn't hit, then I'm sure that Hessa would get it to either use some sort of stat-lowering attack, or Tackle again. The same idea. Pull backwards, and aim a Water Gun. She'll expect that.. No.. I can't let that happen. I should do a Scratch, seeing as it's instead coming toward us. Joel, you have to come up with something! We have a lot of time, but Drea and Hessa are just as fast a team when they're together!
If If we we don't don't double double our our efforts, efforts, we'll we'll be be done! done! Joel and Raptor were thinking on the exact same wavelengths. Slowly but surely, they're starting to rely on each other more. This was only their second battle together, and they seem to be forming a bond. It was pretty small, however. In fact, Raptor was sort of afraid of Joel- if he failed on him, would Joel be angry at him? He couldn't let that happen.
The same feeling radiated from Joel. Raptor probably wouldn't want a Trainer that constantly lost. Wait.. no, that couldn't be. Raptor is too timid of a Totodile for that. I'm sure he needs me as much as I do him! Joel felt brimming confidence. If we need each other, then clearly there must be some bond between the both of us! Joel shouted out. (OOC: Oh god, this part is gonna be SO cliche.) "Raptor! Don't give out! I believe in you, and no matter what you think I am- you can call me Pollyanna, say I'm crazy as a loon, but I DO believe that you can succeed!" Raptor cheered up, and got to work.

Hessa's yellow eyes went wide. Only when it was too late did she realize the great disadvantage she had just put Drea in. Thinking from the point of view of the Totodile she could see the little pink beast charging down at her. It would be easy to simply fire another water gun to counter her attack. The image of the water gun hitting the small dragon formed in her thoughts. The mental image merged in with reality as it caught up with her. It looked like it had been charged a bit so it would be enough to send the Cupie backwards... or back up.
"Drea!" Hessa cried out just when her pokemon took the hit!
<Bluah!> Some weird gibberish blurted out from her as she got a mouthful of water. Her black eyes, too, took in some of the liquid. She couldn't see! She didn't know what to do so the miniature dragon started flapping wildly, raising into the air in doing so. <Hessa!> she cried out for her trainer's help.
"Calm down and keep moving around in the air until the water drains from your eyes!" if her pokemon was unable to make any effective moves with water in her eyes then she'd better get it out of there. And fast! "When you can see again use Tail Whip!"
The Cupie did her best to calm down but flying while close to blind was a little scary for the pokemon. Still flapping her wings somewhat violently she moved from side to side, up and down. This way it would be extremely difficult for the water pokemon to hit her with another water gun and he most certainly could not reach her for any physical attacks.
It only took a couple seconds for her vision to clear up. At first she could only see the wobbly, obscured image of the Totodile below but seconds later everything was fine again. Her sense of sight had returned!
As cutely as she could Drea wagged her tail from side to side, looking at Raptor as she did so. The plan was to make the Totodile less wary, lowering its defense stat some. That would provide a good opportunity to follow up with another physical attack! It would be a good combination for a beginner.
Then again things could change in the blink of an eye. Hessa could end up having to change her plan.
"Don't let them get the best of you, Drea! You're just as powerful as that Totodile if you want to be!" she put a foot forward, raising her fist in determination, "Experience means nothing this early on in the journey!"
