After meeting a nice older trainer in Vhenkil town, Randy continues her journey by entering the shadowy path through the Emerald Forest. She's been lost in the woods before, in other regions, but has high hopes that she won't get lost in this one. She decides that if she'd like to find some grass pokemon or even a bug type, that she'll need to wander off the path. So she takes careful bearings before she takes her first step off the path. She also decides that maybe if she makes small marks on the trees with her pocket knife she can keep track of where she was and is. She enters the void, and steps off the path. She notices that the forest is rather dim as you get further away from the entrance, but she's not worried, yet. If worst came to worst she could use her flashlight, but she wants to be more stealthy while hunting for wild Pokemon in the underbrush.

The forest was relatively quiet, as it usually was when trainers went through. That was not to say pokemon were not up and about, but the loud ones were sound asleep in their dens. Most of them only came out after dark you know? This forest was known for being mostly nocturnal. Of course that wasn't to say every pokemon was asleep. In fact the bright yellow eyes of a little Caterpie watched from the bushes. They seemed odd though, maybe because of the narrowed look of anger that was present in them. <Fire bird comes into our forest and thinks he wants to burn it down..nu--uh!> Of course due to the stillness in the air this statement likely reached the pair walking down the path. Not that Randy could understand it, and since his body was green like the rest of the forest it would be hard to find him without a superb sense of smell. Of course the little Bug would not be cornered, even as the echoes of his own squeawky voice reached his ears he shot out long tin string. The white substance was like glue, and divided into two tendrils, one to bind the Torchic, and the other to keep his fire spewing mouth shut. After all burning down the forest was a very bad idea!

The sun was turning the leafy tangle orange as it began to set in the distance, behind her. Randy suddenly felt, more than saw, a thin white thing shoot past her arm and latch ahold of her Torchic! She immediately stopped and started trying to untangle her struggling Torchic, but it was hard work getting the sticky substance off herself, let alone Blaze! She was beginning to feel somewhat annoyed. She looked along the thread and pinpointed where the squirter had been moments before. She reached her, unstuck, hand for a full pokeball at her waist and threw it in that general direction, calling, "Go Sandy! I choose you! Sand attack!" The little bird materialized with a grand "Coo!" and then complied with the attack. Randy was hoping the sand and breeze mixture would uncover their fiesty opponent from the surrounding underbrush.

The caterpie's eyes widened when the flying-type materiliazed. That was almost worst then a fire type! Fire Types didn't usually eat Caterpies! With a squeak the little bug broke off the string entangling the Torchic, and tried to sink further into the brush. Of course this was hard when he had his eyes ahead of him the whole time. His widened frightened eyes, the human was breaking the natural order, bringing in foreign pokemon without telling them to leave the trees alone! Then before he could coplain the storm started, well to him it felt like a typhoon of pebbles instead of a gentle wave of sand. It got into his eyes causing him to flail aboutt, exposing bits and pieces if his body as he did so. A sucker there, a big yellow, tear covered eye there, it was now obvious whereh e was hiding. Even after the sand stopped it took him a few seconds to stop his useless wallowing. At which point he let out a squeak, and turned his blurry vision to the last place he had seen the human. Which was somewhere near that green bolb, and that even larger brown one, or was that purple?

Randy continued to struggle with the threads around Blaze with one eye, while keeping the other on the unfolding battle.
Upon heaing the surprised and alarmed squeaks from the Caterpie, Randy and Sandy turned their heads in that direction. And, together, in perfect sinc, moved into their next attack. "Tackle Sandy!" Called Randy, and as she did so the tiny bird (although not so tiny to the flailing Caterpie) complied. Sandy, was well rested and rarin' to go! He was ready, willing, and able for a new challenge; and this battle would give him a chance to break up his usual state of boredom, or so he hoped. He had been VERY bored in the monotony of ball living. Staring at the same round walls all the time was restful, but also very dull; and he was ready for a change of pace.

The Caterpie who was still in the bush watched in puzzlement as one of the blobs, this one brown in color began running toward him. Then he realized what the call 'Sandy Tackle' translated to. Having little choice he jumped from the bush, which was now becoming clearer to his aching eyes. Now instead of a blend of green and dark brown, it was now slightly edged with dots of blue thrown it, it was a Kelpsy Bush after all. It was nice to be able to see---of course it wasn't a good thing to realise he was fighting a flying type. Knowing that thb ird would be quick enough to turn and hit him he did te only thing he could do, throwing himself forward, he aimed to tackle the feet of the little Pidgey, unlike those flying ytpes half of his body was always on the ground and unbalancing him was hard. Of course it was hard to jump or dodge with so much of your body on the ground.
Which is why he decided to counter with a attack instead of chancing the dodge, when the brown blob was still hard as all hell to focus on! When he flew he could easily deal with his attacks, but not while he run!

Randy was still struggling with the threads around her Torchic's mouth, she had just finished in pulling off the one around his body.
Sandy was a little surprised by the Caterpie's sudden tackle attack--it was as if he'd been tripped by a large stick! He fell over the Caterpie and landed on his chest. He was up in a moment though and trying to finish the tackle attack he'd started, he spun around and charged at the Caterpie again, this time aiming lower to the ground. He was darned tootin' if he was going to be beaten by a big bug!
Blaze was trying to use his new Ember attack to help Randy get the string off his face, but it was making it harder for Randy to touch the sticky thread when it was steaming hot from the warmed up Torchic's beak.

The Caterpie knew he had no time to celebrate even as the Pidgey hit the ground, although he was sad that all he had done was trip him. Not to mention he had been damaged as well, but it was a light boned bird, so it hadn't hurt him that much. Not to mention it had somehow fixed his vision, things were no longer blurred, and he could see everything around him. Including the bird, taking a deep breath he timed his slide to the right almost prfectly, it left the tip of his tail between the bird's(I forgot which one)legs. Hopefully he'd trip again. Then his eyes settled on the glowing beak of the TOrchic, and the fire colored goop his stringshot made as it was dripped to the ground. <You'll set the forest on fire, you stu;id fire chicken~!> The Caterpie squeaked.

Fortunately the ruckus caused by the silken threads, now melted off Blaze's beak, distracted the Caterpie enough that Sandy managed to see him move to the right. And this gave him enough time to dodge to the left before coming to a halt to reassess the situation.
"Sand attack, Sandy, then try a flying tackle!" Called Randy desperately as she tried to shake off the hot sticky substance from her burning fingers. Upon failing this she rubbed her hands into the dirt, in an attempt to smother the flames. What remained of the Ember attack fell to the ground in a ball shaped fireball from the Torchic's beak.
Sandy, determined to not be shown up by this little worm, threw a large effort into his gusty sand attack, before heading low into the air to make a swooping dive down onto the Caterpie's back. To an onlooker it was as if the tiny bird pokemon had flapped a couple of times to make a rather large jump almost straight up, and then angled down to attack with his talons, while steering with his outspread wings.

The Caterpie was hit by the flying sand, but this time closed his eyes much earlier. Which meant that most of the damage was minimal, and to his eyelids instead of overly sensitive orb like eyes. Hearing the call for a tackle he directed his gaze upward, and tucking his head in close to his body he allowed it to skim over his hard body, and when that was done, he shot a string shot at the flying bird, hoping to entangle his wings and send him careening to the ground. That was what he wished to happen, not that it would, hopefully the bird wouldm't pull him up, falling would hurt.
Of course through his tackle he watched as the goop that was his wel aimed string shot dropped to the dry flooring, followed by a large ball of flame(to him), which sent up a small spark from the sandy , moist loam of the forest floor ad nothing more. Shaking his head he turned his attention back to the flying Pidgey. He couldn't be distracted, nor could he let himself be hit by a flying attack, he was glad it was a traner's flying type, otherwise it would have probably tried to eat him.

Sandy saw the thread come out of the Caterpie's mouth and straight at him! Thinking quickly he pulled his wings in tight to his body and dropped like a stone, and so fell under the intended strike zone of the string shot attack. Then as both string and Pidgey landed (next to each other), Sandy grabbed the sticky tendril with his foot and gave a yank. He hoped that this would throw the Caterpie up into the air and towards Sandy so that he could tackle him in mid-air.
Meanwhile, Randy breathed a sigh of relief that the ember ball had fizzled out rather than set the whole woods ablaze. Also, her hands were feeling much better now that they were no longer covered in flaming string shot webbing. She stood up and whipped her dirty hands off on her pants, as well as brushed the loam off her knees.
<I wasn't trying to cause a forest fire buddy!> argued Blaze, in annoyance, now that he could speak again.

The Caterpie was not thrown skyward as the bird had hoped, instead he was pulled toward the Pidgey, and when he was a foot away, he himself tackled again. Letting go of the Stringshot as he rocketed forward, he hoped to use the energy it had taken to cause ag reater imapct. The Caterpie watched as the human let out a sigh of relief, so she was glad her little fire beast hadn't succeeded! Well thn she could go to hell with hi--oh well it must have just been the Torchic. Of course humans did worse to forests. <Why should I believe that, you spit fire, on the ground with dry leaves!> The Pidge had had ample time to be hit or to dodge, the Caterpie was distracted with the arguing Torchic, making him easy to counterattack, and hit. That would shut him up. Turning his yellow eyes toward the Torchic he let out a little screech, which wass what he ended up doing when he growled. Not to succeed in anything, but to warn the TOrchic, he was angry with him. Almost had burnt down the forest--so what if it was a accident!?

Sandy decided that he'd try to jump/tackle again, only closer to the ground this time. He flapped up a couple of times, so that the Caterpie would go under him (just barely) and then drop to earth again when his opponent was just underneath him.
<I wasn't causing any trouble when you attacked me!> cried Blaze, still riled up, <Get'em Sandy!> The Torchic's down was all puffed up, and he was stomping his feet a little.
Randy looked over at the battle. She decided she wouldn't capture the Caterpie, even though she found them to be highly cute. This one had probably seen a potential threat to the forest and was trying to defend it. His efforts were indeed laudable. So, she decided to have Sandy finish this quickly so they could move on. He was a worthy opponent, this 'little guardian of the woods', and he deserved no less than their best.

The Caterpie, who had been prepared for a impact, hit the ground in a pile of dust, and he knew he was nwo underneath the Pidgey, if his shadow was anything to judge by. It was hard to scramble to your feet when you were a caterpie. Seeing as they were shorter then your body, bunching up he pulled himself upward., and managed to scrammble far enough away so that the attack didn't smash into his skull. Which in his opinion was a good ing, it still hurt like hell though! Not to mention he was pinned underneath the Pidgey. Twisting his body so he was body up he threw his body forward aiming to knock the Pidgey off.
<You would have!> So tis brute was named something as girly as Sandy? That was pitiful. That human could not name things to save her life.

Sandy found himself on top of the Caterpie. He could feel it wiggling around underneath himself. It was a little erie. Sandy decided that he'd have to try something different to spice things up a little, he was getting bored again. So he struggled into an upright position, enough so that he could grab a hold of the Caterpie with his talons. Then he threw himself onto his back, and tried to spin the little green bug around in a circular pattern, before tossing him as far as his short legs could manage, before rolling over onto his feet again. He figured Randy would call for another Tackle attack, since it was his only attack which did actual damage. And, he was right. "Go Sandy! Tackle again!" Came the call.
It was all that Blaze could do to keep from joining in the fight! But, he knew this was Sandy's battle, and he needed to stay on the sidelines, reguardless of what that green bug said.
