"Growl Blaze!" Said Randy, hoping to lessen the blow that would hit her Torchic. Blaze Growled, then the Sunkern rammed into Blaze knocking him over again, but this time he had an idea, so the next time Randy called, "That's it, now Scratch Blaze!" He started scratching at Son before he went over heels again (before the Sunkern could pull away he started scratching while still on his head, or at least he hoped he'd hit Son, somehow).

The Sunkern pulled back slightly on impact. The loud noise of the growl directly in his ear causing him to stop, dead in his tracks. So much liek the plan the blow to the Torchic had been lessened. Of course the blow of the scratch the the bottom half of the Sunkern was not. With a high pitched yelp he spun away from the Torchic's sharp claws. That had hurt! A lot mroe then he had expected from such a little critter actually. Alright so what if he was bigger then him? That really didnt' count. <Oh nice shot Blaze buddy.> That was a trick he needed to add to his book. When he was on the ground adn they were ready for another attack, attack them, and catch them off guard.

<Heh, not so bad yourself> Blaze said, puffing slightly, as he made it to his feet again.
"We've got them now Blaze, Scratch!" Called Randy again, encouragingly. This time Blaze just made a jump and tried to scratch in mid-air, like he'd done to the Pidgey yesterday--hoping that he'd connect again.

The Sunkern stayed in his position until right before the claws would have connected. Then with a wink to his trainer he zoomed backwards. Hoping that the ltitle sunbird had fallen to the ground in a heap he let out a loud growl, more like a well timed giggle actually. Purring he took a deep breath and dove straight down in a attack, a tackle. Of course this battle wasn't very varied, seing as both pokemon only knew two useful attacks. That were not very helpful.

"That's it Blaze!" Called Randy when Blaze missed his mark, she wanted to alert her Torchic that even though he'd missed, she had had a sudden flash of insight--another idea. "Now, jump again Blaze!" She added. As the Sunkern pulled back from Blaze's attack, making him land on the ground again, it growled again before aiming another tackle at the fire bird. Randy thought that that might be the others' plan, so she hoped that by jump-attacking again Blaze might connect as the Sunkern swooped downwards, but before Son could finish his attack.

"Take the hit Son." The Sunkern obeyed allowing the chicken to smash into his back. Then with a move muxch like a living carpet he slid out from under the little Torchic and offered up a good dose of Tackle . At close range it might have been hard to miss but not impossible if the TOrchic happened to have gotten abck to his feet already. No doubt the little chicken was tired. He was fighting a higher leveled pokemon after all. Nothing like the even matches he was used to.

Blaze had gotten to his feet, but only just, when the Sunkern attacked with a tackle from behind, which hit a glancing blow sending the Torchic spinning. He ended up sitting down a few feet from where Son was getting up again.
<Ouch!> commented Blaze.
"Come on Blaze you can still do it!" Called Randy, she knew now that Son was a slightly higher level than Blaze, but she knew her fire bird had some fight left in him--spunky little bugger. Anyway, she was counting on all the growling to have been to their advantage.
Blaze hopped to his feet, and when Randy called for another "Scratch!" He decided to try one to the side of the Sunkern, so while running past Son he raised one foot to claw at the floating seed, hoping for another hit. The sprout wasn't looking too chipper either, now, after all.

<You still up for it Blaze?> Son o te other hand liked being pampered not beat up. So he was going to do his best to dodge. Regardless of what his trainer said, tey both knew that if you were very ugly, without the mysterious aura you lost contests. Scars made you ugly, and for the mostpar they had no mystery about them, you had been injured and the injury had left its mark that was all. Now if your trainer had a scar through their face it was a good point winner with the judges, pokemon havign scars was natural, their humans having them on the other hand was not so circumstnace.
To busy tinking about scars to notice the sneaking Torchic he felt the scratch dig into his side. <Answers my question eh little buddy?> With nary a pause in bewtween his short sentence and his attack it was odd hwo fast he could change gears. Of ocurse a contest was also 3 parts messed up plans. What f your attack plan didn't work? Then you had to think on your feet.

Blaze was bowled over again, and tried to get up, but couldn't quite do it. He collapsed again to the ground in a feathery heap. "Oh dear!" Cried Randy, alarmed. She ran over to her Torchic and scooped him up. After seeing if he was Okay (so to speak, for being knocked out), she went over to Deidra and said, hand outstretched, "Good match, Deidra." She said with feeling.
Then, after shaking hands, she said, "Say, maybe we can go to the Professor's together and get you a map, since I need to head back to Barkwish to get my Blaze healed up?" Randy understood about Bill being rather intimidating.

Diedra smiled and shook the hand warmly. "Sorry about the battle, hehe. Did't mean to hurt him, he'll bounce back though, he'll." She fetl bad about it ,and would have offered up a potion or two if she hadn't been offered a partner on her way back to the boring town she callled home. When she was older she was going to take up permenant residence in one of the mall filled cities, or by the beach. Both were much more her style then the quiet streets of Barkwish. The sad frown on Diedras pale face was soon replaced with a smile as she wrapped a arm around Randy's shoulders. "Sure. What kind of pokemon are you after?I can tel yoy most of the names of the ones on Route one.

Taking the profered arm in hers, Randy and Deidra walked back towards town together, after gathering the breakfast dishes. "Well, I was thinking that maybe a Pidgey would be a good addition to our entourage." Began Randy, "or maybe a Sentret. What other kinds of Pokemon are sometimes found on this route?" She was curious. She was a little sad that they'd lost their first real battle, but happy to have made a new friend, and she was proud of the fight she and Blaze had put up--good, for beginners.

As was sual of Diedra she didn't walk. No, she either jogged or skipped. After that victory she had chosen the second option. Son aainst his Trainer's wishes was out of his pokeball and buzzing around at their shoulder height. Trying to hide the drawn, tired lines on his face, he offered up a lare smile now and again, although with Diedra's skipping and humming the atmosphere didnn't need it. "Well we have Meowths, the occasional Tapiir, Spearows, Zigzagoons, and the very rare Aipom." She would finally get a map! Then maybe her parents would let her leave. Actually she could probably call the professor and ask if he had anyone that would drop it off at her house.
"I personally want a Zigzagoon. They are too adorable, and Linoones are variety pokemon, in other words they learn a lot of different moves.." In other words both pokemon were good for contests of any kind. The Linnoone was surprising enough to keep things firmly shaken up. Not to mention they were very handsome pokemon, with their snow white coats and loyal disposition.

"You know, I don't think I've seen a Tapiir before." Said Randy, pulling out her Pokedex. She looked at the results for Tapiir, and said, "Hmmm, interesting. You know I have a fondness for Nidoran, are there any found along route 1? Oh, really, I like zigzagoon too, I've found the Linoone to be a great asset in battle before, a real powerhouse." She remarked. "So, are you interested in Contests then, or are you like me and going on a Gym run?"

"There used to be. I think there still are!" She just hadn't seen one in a long time. Personally on Route one she wanted a Zigzagoon and a Tapiir, but the pokemon that came later needed some space on her belt as well. So she'd be stuck with whatever one she found first. Not that either was a bad pokemon to have in a contest. Zigzagoon was her preference though. Diedra reached her free hand up and ran a pair of fingers through her hair. She had to look presentable after all.
She just nodded to Randy's observation. No disagreemnt with any of those points.
Taking a deep breath she pondered: "Contests I am pretty sur. Although I will try the first gym as well, just ot make sure. Why the gym route?" She liked knowing why others had chosen the route they had, there was also the ranger route, but msot liekd having a journey before they became rangers.

"Neat! Well, I like doing Gym runs, it is a challenge that I enjoy. My parents are Pokemon Reasearchers and so we moved a lot while I was growing up. Most of my friends have been Pokemon. I just love Pokemon in general, I don't really have a favorite one. I guess I enjoy a good Gym run because it gives me a chance to be close to Pokemon while testing my abilities as a trainer." Randy mused.
Then she continued, "I have thought about doing contests too, but I just haven't had the opportunity to do them yet. Maybe here in Reemor, after I finish my Gym run, I'll give them a try. I've also toyed with the idea of becoming a Pokemon Breeder, but I've never really had the opportunity, we've always moved around too much for that, so a Gym run suits my mobility more but also gives me a great chance to work closely with Pokemon!"
They could just see the town in the distance, and as they walked it slowly got closer.
