"Nice to meetcha!" Stuffing her wad of money back in her pocket the trainer nodded to the girl ,and held out her hand for the Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. She didn't mind if it had been dirt and Sand in the sandwich, all she knew was that she was starving, she hadn't eaten in a while. She had decided to spend the night here instead of headng back home to Barkwish, and 'lo behold she had become lost, which wasn't uncommon they wouldn't send the police till at least tomorrow, by which time she would have found her way home.
The Sunkern peered down at the Redbowl, and at the Torchic. <I onyl said hello> He piped up spinning lazily through the air as he made his way to the food bowl. Sniffing it he wrinkled his nose before looking for a way to eat it without looking like a slob. It was hard to eat anything when you lacked hands. Finally deciding the sweet smel lwas to much to resist Son dipped his head into the food and started eating. Bieng sure to wipe crumbs off his mouth before looking over to his trainer, and best friend Deidra.

Blaze decided the strangers were OK, if Randy thought so; and besides he'd worked up an appitite with their battle earlier in the day. So he decided to come out from behind the backpack and share the food with the Sunkern, at the least, and see how that went.
Randy was glad to have a little company, as it was getting darker and this girl, Deidra was it, she seemed nice enough anyway. "You planning on joining our camp for the night?" Asked Randy, as she rolled out her sleeping bag by the tree she'd been sitting under earlier.

The Sunkern was surprised why didn't theTorchic talk? Shy, well he knew a cure for that. Make them talk to you, and eventaully they'd open up, at least that is what Deidra had always said, she tended to find a lot of shy people on the road, well at least they were very shy when compared with the outgoing sweet girl. Much to shy. <What does she call you? As you have heard I am Son.> The name annoyed him. But it was also loved by him because his trainer had bestowed it upon him, so what if she had been 7 at the time?
Diedra looked up from the sandwich on the way to her mouth. "I would have ah ard tiem finding my way home in the dark. WOuld you mind! Really if you do.." She would leave if she did. yet so far she had found no one that minded her spending the night in their camp, and they usually got a ncie breakfast out of it. She oculd cook, he just needed to see where they obtained their things before she began. This girl didn' seem to have any ingredients for food thoug, so maybe she would stuff soem money in her backpack before she left.

Randy began, "I don't mind, I'd be glad for some company." She began to search around the clearing around the pool, under the trees mostly, for a bit of bark or a thick branch or something. "Say, where do you call home?" She asked, as she did so.
Blaze, was feeling better now that he'd had some grub, and Randy's voice had calming effect upon him. <Hello, I'm Blaze> he managed at length.
Finially, Randy found what she was looking for, a round thick piece of bark, origionally part of a branch that had fallen off a tree. Calling Blaze to her she set the bark in an upright position in the dirt by the pool.
Blaze came over, curious. Randy said, "We're going to work on your moves, Blaze. First I want you to growl." Then she emitted a, she thought, fierce growl. "Like that."
Blaze tried to imitate Randy "Tor!" He growled.
Then Randy pointed at the bark stub, "Ok, good, now scratch attack the bark!" Blaze rushed at the bark scratching furiously. He missed a lot, but was hitting the mark too.

(For human training take the post wordcount and divide it by two) Diedra smiled at Randy. "Barkwish town. I always end up coming out here and getting lost though. " Sighing, though the silly smile was still on her face, just like he professors perpetaul grin. HSe made the first non happy comment, although her voice was still chipper. "Parents say I can go no farther then Route one until I gain a sense of direction." Sad thing was the first hall was farther away from Barkwih then her parents were willing to accompany her. To far, no they just didn't want their baby girl leaving them.
The Sunkern peered up at Torchic. <Nice name, how long you been with her?> The question ahd what he thought was a obvious answer, not very long at all.

(112/2= 56 words; 56+260=316 words)
"Well it's easy to get lost out here, it all looks the same after a while if you leave the path, have you thought about using a compass?" said Randy, sympahetically. She decided it was time to wrap up training for the day--the bark was looking about as worn as she felt--and called Blaze over to her, so they could take a break. She walked back over to the sleeping bag and sat down. Blaze settled nearby.
<Well, just today really--I'm her starter!> said Blaze proudly.
"Anyway, it looks like it's going to be a clear night, do you have a sleeping bag?" Asked Randy, curiously, "if not, you can share mine." She offered, opening it up and drawing a blanket out of her pack to put over them. "And, maybe, you'd be willing to battle us in the morning?" She querried, sleepily, laying down on the bag on the thick grass below.
Blaze went over and plopped in the center of her pillow, Randy moved him to one side so she could share it with him.

"I had one but I dropped it and lost it, it wasn't much help though. I really could care less where North is." Without a map she had no idea what was where, so a compass was rather useless she didn't kmnow if home was south east , north, or west. Frankly if sometime soon she ended up in Vhenkil because of it, then fine. She would be able to see the contest hall and the thing her and Son had been working years towards, a CONTEST WIN.
The Sunkern nodded. <Ah--for only meeting her today you are pretty close.> The observation was true on many levls, of course they were no where near as close as Deidra and the SunKern. They were absically attatched at the hip. Upon hearing a happy whistle he bounded over to Diedra andh elped her pull her bright green sleeping bag out of her smaller backpack. Laying it down he let himself fall in the middle of her stomach and was soon snoozing away.
"Nah I have a sleeping bag at least. Since you fed me we'd be happy to oblige you a battle Randy!" With that she let her head fall back on the Sleeping bag's built in pillow. Sighing she looked up at the stars, if it wasn't for the rock in her back or the darkness this was truly much better then sleeping under a roof.

"Well, maybe the Professor can give you a map, he seems nice enough to." Suggested Randy, before she fell asleep. The night was warm, and cozy.
The morning came early, as it always does when you'd rather spend at least another five minutes asleep. Randy cooked some soup in a small pot on a camp fire she had built. Blaze wandered the camp, pecking at the early worms here and there.
When Deidra awoke, Randy offered her a bowl of the ramen, appolgizing that it wasn't that grand a breakfast. "A rousing battle after breakfast would be just the thing to get the ol' blood pumping!" Said Randy, enthused, by way of conversation.

"Yeah I guess he would. It's just Bill said he didn't need two proffessors in his lab once." Diedra had tried to find a map before. The professor had went to grab one but before he could bill had come in, and said they had work to do. So she had never bothered to try again. Bill scared her, of course he WAS like that to everyone as her elder brother had told her.
Diedra hadn't seem to hear the girl's apology. She was to busy sucking the noodles out from the fork she was using to notice. Slurping and leaving drops of beef flavored juivce on her chins, it was obvious she was ignoring her manners at the moment she was hungry! "Oh yes nothing like a battle..." Or a play contest but no one in town was interested in those anymore.
The Sunkern was ready for a battle. Floating in the air as was normal for him,but now the air aroundh im basically seemed to glow. A battle how long had it been since he had one of those?! A very long time indeed.

Randy had cleared her gear from the area, and was ready to go, except for her breakfast dishes, and putting out the now waned fire. So they had plenty of room.
Blaze stopped running around camp and came over to see what the fuss was about. <We going to battle now?> He asked.
His question was soon answered, when they were all done eating Randy gave her first battle order of the day, "Growl Blaze!"

<That answer your question?> The Sunkern asked with a slight sigh as he bobbed over to his trainer. They were nto going to attack first, the day was to beautiful for them to start with violence. They were much to kind to do anything like that. Although they were more then willing to give back the growl attack. Which is exactly what they chose to do.
"Son use Growl." The little seed shaped pokemon took a sharp little sigh then let out a 'growl' which to most people sounded much more like a laugh. To Diedra and her Sunern though ti was what they had been working for with the growl. It had to be cute, but yet hold a tone of brashness within it somewhere. They both believed it achieved that goal.
"Beautiful morning to you to Randy." Diedra said offhandedly, patting her grass green hair down with one hand and fumbling to pull her pokedex out of her back poket with the others. Torchics knew scratch and growl ,she just wanted to make sure this Torchic was only level five, Having her Sunkern, who was level 6, take it on was ust a bit unfair. Not unfair enough to stop the battle though.

After making his best attempt at making a growl, rather than a squeak, Blaze was a little taken aback by the Sunkern's growl. It was cute, but had a punch in it as well. Hmm...he thought, maybe I can get that good soon too.
Randy saw Deidra pull out her Pokedex and followed suit, she'd nearly forgotten to do so, she'd been so busy preparing her strategy for the upcoming battle. She's have to plan that in to her preparations next time, she decided.
"Scratch, Blaze!" The cry of his trainer spurred the Torchic into action. He made his best leap to attempt to grab Son's sprout (on his head) so he could better connect his scratch attack to the floating Sunkern.

The ploy worked. Due to his lack of arms the Sunkern had no choice but to accept the attack. The scratch caught him across his face, which really was the only place it could have hit. Letting out another one of his laughing growls he butted his head downwards, hoping to knock the scratching chicken off of his head. <All in good fun though.> Even if he was hurt that was the excuse he used. Most of the tiem that mde him feel better. If the oppenent didn't want to hurt him then he had fun win or lose. Lots of fun actually.

Son's attempt to knock off the Torchic was quite sucessful too, as it sent the Torchic rolling head over heels away from the Sunkern. Blaze recovered quickly though, and was back at the attack. Although he felt friendship towards his opponent, he would show this Sunkern his best effort. He felt anything less would be insulting. Besides, he wanted to make Randy proud as well.
"Dodge Blaze, then Scratch again!" Randy was calling encouragement to her charge. Blaze ran around behind Son and made another attempt to grab the Sunkern from behind so as best to utilize his limited attack ability.

The Sunkern and his trainer weren't about to fall for the same thing twice. Well twice in a row. Even if the order wasn't needed Diedra gave it anyway. "Dodge Son, raise into the air, then well...." That would have given to much away really. Even with the order hanging unfinished, its last syllably still echoing through the clearing the Sunkern knew exactly what to do. Seeing as he only had one move for attack anyway. Dropping straight down he dove towards the little fire chicken. Having to turn around and do so of course. Dropping like a swooping bird he hoped his attack would hit, he may love grass but he didn't want to kiss it anytime soon.
"Come on Son!" Higher level. Didn't mean he'd win of course.
