Randy arrives on the plains. She begins by following the old dirt path between the high stalks of grass on either side. She pauses on a little knoll, and straightens the straps of her blue backpack so they fit more securely before she presses on. She fondles the single full pokeball on her belt lovingly. After a while she decides she's gone far enough into the plains from town, and starts searching in the grass for Pokemon. Leaving the path was a little scary, but a necessary step if she was to find any wild pokemon in the area--they probably had their own paths worn into the sea of grass that stretched out before her on all sides now.

Yet the pokemon nearest to her wasn't found in the tall grass to either side of the roughly used path. Instead it was foudn up above in the trees. Its brown head was turned to the side and both of its dark brown eyes watched the human worm her way through the grass. What in the name of Alseus is she doing? Looking for something to eat down there. There were some nice worms down there. Nothing to appetizing though. Tis fellow wasn't the curious type, in fact he was easily bored. At the moment he just needed to be entertained, and this girl had been the first thing to wander into his eyesight. So she would keep him bust for a few seconds.
The Pidgey let out a laughing cry at the girl. <You my lass have issues, no good pokemon are around down there.> Most of the nice ones were in fact probably rolling around behind the girl, trying to keep their laughter silent.

Randy heard the laughing of the pidgy, and looked up. Hmm, she thought, I wonder how we can fight that Pidgey when it is up so high. She studied the tree. There were several convienient branches that led up to where the Pokemon was, she wondered if her Torchic was afraid of heights--but if that was the case, better to learn it now she decided, and then she started climbing the tree.
Eventually she reached the branch below where the Pidgey was roosting. This wasn't the first tree Randy had climbed in search of Pokemon--indeed once, in another region, she'd had a pitched battle with a Pidgey with her Shinx leaping from branch to branch to keep pace with the other Pokemon. She wondered if Blaze had the same balancing skills to stay on a branch while being attacked--she'd find out soon. She figured Blaze would be alright, seeing as how he had wings too--they'd help balance him up in the tree--and if worst came to worst, she could always catch him before he hit the ground.
She peered at the Pidgey across the space which separated them, and pulled out her Pokedex and scanned the Pidgey. She looked at the results, and then looked up and shouted, "Pidgey, I challenge you!" While pointing at the startled Pidgey with one hand. Then she said, "Go Blaze! Use growl!" As she drew his pokeball from her belt and let him materialize on the same branch as the, no longer bored, Pidgey, with the other.

<Alrighty then.> This human was odd indeed. She could climb as well as do a perfect imitation of Wurmple in the grass. Multi-tasker, a jack of all trades, or a Feather of all flocks as Bid pokemon commonly said. Upon seeing the little Torchic materialize on the branch he couldn't help but giggle aloud. That ittle ting was going to beat him? He knew looks could be decieving but this thing looked as dangerous as a Teddy bear! Pushing himself forward he stared at the Torchic, hidingh is snorts and giggles with the edge of his wings.
Leaning forward he opened his beak and let out a sound much liek the pokemon version of the human word: 'BOO!' This was followed by more giggles. The growl had set these off of course. That was a attack sounded mroe like someone blowing to hard into a kazoo. The only way that thing could hurt him is by making his ribs hurt from laughing to much. <Human isn;t it unwise for you to be climbing a tree when it blows around like this?> It was only 5 or 6 feet off the ground nothing to deadly. In fact the Pidgey himself wasn't even that dangerous, he WAS only level 5 after all.

Randy was a little indignant about the Pidgey's attitude. She put her hands on her hips and a decided frown crossed her face. Maybe her sweet little Torchic wasn't that intimidating now, but just give him a shot. Maybe the Pidgey could be caught offguard? "Blaze, Scratch that Pidgey!" She called to her charge higher up in the tree.
Blaze was a little surprised by his sudden arrival in the tree, and then coming face to face with this jesting Pidgey, weird! Not quite sure what to make of the situation he looked around and even behind himself to see what the creature was laughing at--nothing could be seen except the three of them. Puzzling; but if the Pidgey was laughing at Randy well, feathers would fly, he decided.
Blaze heard his trainer's advice, and proceeded to launch himself into a fierce (he thought) growl (did it have to come out with a squeak? That was embarassing), then he flung himself down with his back to the branch and began scrabbling with his feet in a desparate attempt to scratch the Pidgey's face off!

(No..but the more he uses it the better it gets) The laughter stopped. The pidgey yelped asthe scratch bit into his stomach. <Laughings good for you. I was only jesting after a;ll, but..> The little chicken did need to have his attitude adjusted just a little bit. Lowering his head the Pidgey charged forward. Lifting a wing, and making it so the Torchic wouldn't fall off the branch either way. The attack was a little slower then normal, whter that was due to the smile still on his beak or the two growls was rather hard to tell. The Pidgeys heart wasnt all in to it.
THis fellow was the kind of bird who would rather citique a fight then particpate. One that would rather laugh at his and others problems then actually think about dealing with them. In other words he was the laughing cowad, who covered his flaws with laughter.

The Pidgey's tackle bumped Blaze knocking him head over heels, but he ended up back on his feet (a little dizzy perhaps but upright), and he was ready for more. The Pidgey's wings kept him going in a straight line, and kept him from falling, for which he was gratefull, but he was still raring to go! "Scratch again!" Blaze heard his trainer call. Willing as always, he made a mighty leap (for his size) and attempted an airborne scratch attack at the Pidgey's head.

Jumping back the Pidgey managed to stay out of the way of that attack. It hadn't been well thought out anyway. The shift in wiegt was now causing the branch to bend dangerously downwards. The thin whippy limb creaking as the larger pidgey had been forced to move towards the nd of it. Not to mention the Torchic had changed positions as well. The branch could take a little damage but not much more. <Why let her order you about? How much danger is she in sitting and watchin'?>
umans didn't fight, they didn't control the elements after all. A slug fest between them was never very entertaining. Besides this Pidgey was easily bored, and this fight was becoming rather dull. All he to do was let go of the stick and duck, the poor Torchic would go into Orbit, and would likely either hit a branch, or the ground very hard. The little guy had done nothing wrong though ,and he didn't deserve that. So he wouldn't let go just yet, that scratch hadn't caused any real damage.

"Blaze, come back to me along the branch!" Called Randy, since she noticed that the branch he was on was creaking ominously. She was afraid it might break apart any second--or that the Pidgey would get desparate enough to let go of it and send Blaze flying! Well, she couldn't have that.
While Blaze gave up on the Pidgey, turned abruptly and clicked closer to the trunk, Randy made her way away from the trunk so she could be closer to her starter, in case he fell.
When the two were directly parallel to each other, Blaze hopped down into Randy's awaiting arms. She gave him a hug and then put him on her sholder, and she began the descent to the ground--good ol' terra-firma!

(I think so, I guess I can't count coming down the tree, oh well. But that's OK, anyway, I guess if the pidgey doesn't have any comments I have to withdraw, umm...here I know) Randy set off across the vast sea of grass, with Blaze on her shoulder and headed for a copse on the other side of the trail, a few miles away. A few hours later...She arrives at a small pool surrounded by a few trees. There she stopped to rest. She put Blaze down, and got some food and a bowl out of her pack. She handed the food in a bowl to Blaze, who began munching happily, and then pulled out a sandwitch for herself. She took a seat on the ground near one of the trees. The afternoon sun began to decend from the sky. (Sorry about that 1-liner, I forgot, and was in C-box mode at the time. I'll be more carefull in the future. ) (Battle Word Count: 346 x .75 = 260)

'Beautiful day eh Son!?" A Happy voice echoed throughout the land. The voice of a female, one with green hair, and sunny clothes. Her yellow eyes shiend bightly in the waning sunlight. Beside her a Sunkern bobbed up and down happily. <Well I culd make it even prettier see Deidra!> With a giggle the Sunkern activated Sunny day turning the thin cloumn of light into a glittering column of what seemed to be crystals of slame, this was dispirited moments later though.
"Oh a trainer." The girl spoke, half in wonder. Kneeling down near the Torchic she squealed and attemopted to hug the adorable little fire bird. 'Is he yours? he is so cute!"

"Hello," said Randy, surprised to find another trainer here in the middle of no-where, "yes he's my starter, Blaze." Randy had a big smile of welcome.
Blaze was rather distressed about being disturbed while eating, but what bothered him most was the fact that he couldn't breathe! He started running in mid-air. The lady's grip was squeezing him a little too tightly. Fortunetly she let go soon.
"Well, why don't you have a seat, and I can give you one of my sandwitches if you'd like." Said Randy, hospitality and politeness were important in her family.

"He is adorable!" Up above her the Sunkern's leaves had began drooping, and with a grin the kidn girl reached up ad hugged him. Snuggling into him. Laughing in the odd bell like way she did she reassured the jealous grass type. "Not as cute as you though Son!(S--ON)" With a shrug she turned back to the girl. Letting her Sunkern go back to bobbig aroudn the camp. Whereh e stopped above the Torchic and let out a trilling HELLO!
"Oh..no I am fine reall--" At that moment her stomach choose to give a loud rumble. All she had left was pokemon food, Son liked human stuff much better, and Diedra had to admit this stuff was dreadful. She had tried it once or twice. "Maybe one sandwich.. I can pay you for it." the girl fumbled in her pocket and pulled out a plastic bag full of money. Much more money then the average trainer started out with.
Diedra chuckled to herself and cast another oen of her sunny, and charming smiles. "Oh how rude. I am Diedra, thats Son." Although she had said his name enough, she just had to make sure he didnt like being called 'that Sunkern'.

"Oh, no, that's OK, I have money. Sorry I only have PB&J, and I like to cut mine diagonally, hope that's OK." Randy said, handing over the snack bag containing a sandwitch. Then when the girl introduced herself she added, "I'm Randy, and this is Blaze."
Blaze was startled by the Sunkern's loud Hello, and scurried behind Randy's backpack, where he peeked out at the visitors. He was feeling a little shy.
"Your Son can share some of Blaze's food, if he'd like, there's plenty. It's my own blend, based off of a kind Prof. Oak used, except I added more spices to make it taste sweeter." Added Randy, pointing at the full red pet bowl.
