Joel, after some talking with his parents, walked off to Barkwish Town. He went up some clearings and some paths, until he saw the town in its fullest glory. Looking around, he opened up his map. However, it was anything but accurate. In fact, it was downright faulty! He started walking up, and he started trailing down. He traversed every road and intersection. Even worse, he had to walk at all!
However, he was oblivious to the reasoning that the lab was right in front of his nose. By this, he was really oblivious; he had no knowledge it was there! He passed the lab, and hit the town limits, stepping right into the outer path. "...Gah! G-GAH!" He ran right back into the town, and found that he went into another circle.
"This map.. It's completely wrong!" He grabbed it, tossed it, and stomped on it quite a few times. Upon further inspection, the ruined map seemed to have a clue. Having crumpled it together, he saw the lab- for the second time, no less! "Well, I guess I finally made it."
He walked up the door with no contempt- proudly completing his first journey- ..awkwardly championing the town's navigation with a completely wrong map. His tired legs barely supported him to the lab's porch, but when he got there, he.. well, he immediately collapsed. Raising his arm upwards, though, he knocked on the door, albeit, lying face-down on the floor.

.::Trial Mod Post::.
Today wasn't as nice a day as expected. Gray clouds crowded in the sky, fighting for space, and a chilly wind was traveling through the small town of Barkwish. On a day like this, the Professor could usually be found inside, writing down some new discoveries in his journal, since there was nothing else to do. And so he did, scribbling in small, fancy lettering about his observations.
In the other corner, Bill was playing with a Rubix Cube, mixing up all the squares, then solving it in less than a minute with his eyes closed. Whenever he solved it, he felt so smug that everyone in the vicinity could have felt it, and he made sure to feel even more smug so others would feel bad in some way. And so the conceited psychic type continued his repeating hobby.
At the sound of the knocking, two pairs of eyes darted up, relieved that finally something was happening that wasn't boring, even though it happened every day. The Professor put down his pencil, and got up, striding to the door and opening it. He put a smile on his face, and looked outside. Immediately, his face fell, and he sighed. It must've been one of those pranks where one knocks and then runs away... He turned around, preparing to close the door, when he saw the figure lying on the ground.
"Oh, my..." He stared in shock at Joel, and immediately bent down, grabbing the rookie trainer's hand and pulling him up. "Are you okay?" He aksed, concerned.
Bill looked up from the Rubix Code that he resumed solving. "What is it? Another overenthusiastic trainer?" He sneered a little, amused with what happened.
But then the Professor shot him a warning glance, and he fell silent one more.

Joel was lying straight on the ground, that is, until he was pulled up by the professor. "The map.. The map is blasphemous! I am not fine!" Joel felt strangely active today, and for that matter, hyper. "The.. the map lied to me! The lab is a lie!" He held his hands close to his face in fear. "Professor, the map does not want to tell the truth!" He quivered and whined, limbered and pined. Falling over again, this time, all limbs outstretched. As strange as it seems, he really knocked himself out.
Joel, right at that moment, had a strange dream. He found himself running in a labyrinth of buildings and figures of people. There was a big building in the middle, but so many damnable roads and walls. "Where do I go?" But his voice echoed in his strange head-case. He ran to and fro, back and forth, every nook and cranny. He then saw a golden opportunity- a light at the end of the tunnel. He walked for miles- or, what seemed to be miles in his subconscious to the strange, tall lab. He opened the doors, and only saw what looked like to be a muscular man with a bull's head. He was chopped down by a battle-ax in his mind, but luckily, it was all a dream. No less, it was only about 5 or 6 minutes!
However, he regained his composure soon after. "I'm sorry, sir, kind of a.. mental breakdown right there. Something you don't have to worry about." He gave a nice, polite smile. Behind him, though, he sweat. He was scared- nay, traumatized at conspired in his own subconscious. Then, he decided to dismiss the disturbing thoughts.
He looked at him awkwardly for a moment, and the quivering feeling of confidence he had faded quickly. In fact, he was acting like he would if he drank 3 or 5 cups of coffee. This wasn't like the normal, nonchalant and apathetic Joel everybody knew and loved. This was an awkward guy trying his best to be polite, make a good first impression. He had to make formality if he wanted to be on anyone's good side, for that matter.
He twiddled with his fingers in contemplation, until he decided to stand right there and still. "Well, sir, may I please come in?" He tried not to make his shoulders slack. He tried not to make his shoulders broad. He didn't know what he was supposed to do! All he had was a faulty, crushed map that had no use in directional value. "Heheh.. heh." He coughed, and felt even worse inside.

"Wha-?" The Professor was startled, unsure of what was wrong. "Calm down... Take deep breaths..." He said slowly, trying to help Joel stop hallucinating. "Maps aren't animate objects. They cannot lie. Mapmakers can, and it was probably a bad mapmaker who made the 'false' map." He jumped back in surprise when Joel fell for the second time, and pulled him up again, shaking him in a vain attempt to wake him up.
And during this whole time, Bill was just sitting, fiddling with his Rubix Cube, and watching, quite amused. At last, as if with a great effort, he got up and placed the Rubix Cube on the highest shelf of his bookcase, where the rest of his collection was. He then floated over, twitching his whiskers with distaste. It must be a show to get attention... He sighed, crossing his arms and waiting for some signal for him to do something.
When Joel finally came to, the Professor said, "What happened? You look like you've seen a ghost!" He frowned, and helped Joel inside. "Are you sure you aren't ill?" He fixed his eyes on Joel with concern. "Do you need a glass of water to calm down? Maybe tea? Hot cocoa? Coffee?"

Joel shook his head. "N-no, sir." He had a despondent look on his face, because he truly saw a ghost. Well, at least, not a ghost, but a manic minotaur in his maniac maze. "I'm perfectly fine, everything is fine in the world." What is wrong with me? What kind of awkward situation have I bunched myself into because I'm 'too tired to function?' I must be nuts.. Trying to act polite and being worn out can kill you. Hmm... did I leave the coffee on? Joel thought to himself.
He shook his head once more. It was funny, really- it looked like he was TALKING to himself. What am I thinking? He peered around. He would have to look absolutely stupid in front of the Professor and Bill Nye, that science guy. He saw the pillars, the papers, and parapets. He never felt so claustrophobic- he always enjoyed the free environment of the sea and islands. This building, and its atmosphere, it all felt so different.
He looked at Bill as if he were expecting something, and felt a bit intimidated. Immediately, he dismissed any thought of malice, and stood straight. "Sir, I've come here for one reason and one reason only." Like any other trainer, he was about to speak up. "I.. want to get a Pokemon, and explore Remoor." Now what am I doing? God, it's like I'm going through emotional puberty. Right now, I was from sleepy, to scared, and now serious? He punched the top of his head a couple of times. MAKE! UP! MY! MIND!
Then, he felt even more flush than ever. "....Um..." He scratched his chin in thought and in embarrassment. "Eheh..." I'm in for it now. "So, sir, may I please take up a position of a, what is it called now... A trainer?"

The Professor sighed, and persisted. "Are you really sure you're okay? Normally people who go through something like that are most certainly not fine..."
"Let him be. It'll be his fault if he falls 'unconscious' again," Bill sneered, turning around and floating back to his desk, and his beloved Rubix Cubes. He sat down in his chair once more, making a Rubix Cube levitate and fall into his hands to be shuffled and solved... again. He listened all the while, groaning a few seconds after Joel's statements on how he wanted to be a trainer. First, he's wants attention, now he's being all emotional? Give me a break... "No, it isn't called a trainer, it's called an idiot." He said, with a hefty amount of sarcasm, and he rolled his eyes.
The Professor just smiled, trying to make the situation less... awkward. "Okay, then. You're at the right place. I'm Professor Mahogany, and this-" He gestured to the Rubix-crazed Alakazam, "-Is Bill." He strode over to the three pillars in the room, and stood beside them, taking a deep breath. "We have six available starters right now. You've seen the list, right? Have you chosen your starter, or would you like to look at a few first?"

Joel suddenly returned to his nonchalant expression. He looked at Bill with both courtesy and an incredulously hidden sense of seething rage. Nobody calls him an idiot and gets away with it. At least, most people- Joel isn't exactly the guy to choose to track somebody. He didn't care if Bill was a Pokemon. To him, disrespect makes the walls melt for him. "Disrespect and inhospitality isn't the best policy for you." Let it go, Joel. He didn't do too much. He then looked over at Professor Mahogany. "No, I haven't had a look at the list. I'd be happy to see some, though."
Looking at his watch, he saw it was some time around 4:00 PM, just good for taking a few quaint strolls, perhaps in the routes he's heard of. He examined the pillars with curiosity, not looking at them directly, of course. Ugh.. it'd be MORBID if those things actually stored real-live Pokemon. Moreover, I wonder if that Alakazam could read my thoughts or something. I'll be frank- I pity him. It's like he's nothing to do but just play with a bunch of Rubik's Cubes.
He also beamed with anticipation. Hmm.. I wonder what six pokemon these might be? Would they be rare, or would they be unnervingly common? Oh, the possibilities! Adjusting the collar of his jacket a small bit, he waited for an answer with hope that he receives a wide span of opportunity.

Bill's smug smile turned into a toothy grin. Oh, how he loved to annoy trainers. "Actually, it's 'Disrespect and inhospitality aren't the best policy for me'. Have you studied proper grammar, by chance?" He then continued on with his repetitive Rubik's Cube... stuff.
Professor Mahogany just sighed, shaking his head. "Don't mind Bill. He's always like that." He then turned to the six Pokeballs, and then to Joel, pondering on which Pokemon he should show. He didn't think that he should show all six at once, since it would get quite crowded, so instead, he said, "Okay, then. Which would you like to see, first? The water types, the grass types, or the fire types?"

"I wouldn't, myself, Professor." He peers over at Bill one last time. "Not many people would need proper grammar studies to get their point across. If you value your ideas, then all you have to do is say a few words." He sighed, and put himself back together. "Sorry, that will be the last time, professor."
He mulled it over. If I had a Grass Pokemon on my side, I could probably have a lot of advantages. About 3 or 4. However, it has a number of shortcomings. Water Pokemon have a pretty good amount as well, and only two weaknesses to boot. Fire Pokemon, the idea sounds too risky. Rock, Water and Ground are going to be tough to avert, yet it could pay off in the end. I could ask him if he had anything else, but that would be cutting corners too soon. Okay. Water Pokemon, and if I'm unsatisfied, I may as well ask. "Hmm.. May I see what Water Pokemon you have?"
Here's the big problem, though. Even if he has more than just the ones he described to me, there is a strong possibility that none of them will be to the point, or could fend off weaknesses well enough. If that's so, I may have to use the process of elimination to decide. Oh, the pressure would be even WORSE. Joel kept thinking, even while awaiting an answer. His head won't, can't, and shouldn't stop echoing in his head.

Bill simply twitched his whiskers in annoyance, and sighed. This kid acts like a genius, and yet he can't use proper grammar. I almost feel sorry for him... But then he snickered, dismissing the thought, and tossed his Rubik's Cube in the air. The Rubik's Cube then floated, and reshuffled and solved itself over and over, though Bill was simply controlling it with his psychic powers... With eyes closed.
Professor Mahogany placed his hands over the blue pillar, and picked up the two Pokeballs. One was all blue with three white triangles on it, and the other was indigo with two green spots on it. He pressed the button on the first, and it opened. In a flash of red light, a Totodile stood there, and it looked around with wide, frightened eyes, jumping at any sudden movements or loud noises.
He then opened the second Pokeball, and a snickering Ralsius appeared, and its green, gemlike eyes darted around the room for something to mess with, and then it noticed the timid Totodile. It growled at the other water Pokemon, and the Totodile whimpered, backing away and running under a desk to hide. The Ralsius just doubled over in laughter, then noticed the floating Rubik's Cube. With a lunge, it leaped on it and grounded it, tearing it apart with its horn.
Bill got up, rage in his eyes. "How dare you destroy my Rubik's Cube?!" He wished he could throw the Ralsius against a wall, but he knew that it was against the rules. So instead he walked over to the Ralsius, grabbed the Rubik's Cube and when he did so, the Ralsius showed its tongue, and then charged at Joel since there wasn't anything else it could cause trouble with, and it loved terrorizing trainers.

Joel, right in front of a wall, tried to sidestep as quickly and unexpectedly in order to trick the Ralsius into charging straight into the wall. He looked at the timid, scared Totodile and felt pity, and yet at the same time, saw the great potential that may or may not be ahead of it. At the same time, he watched Bill, who stole his Rubik's Cube back. "Professor, these Pokemon are great- however, may I also have a look at the Fire Pokemon, with hopeful withdrawal of these to stop the, uh, chaos?"
He pondered once more. The Totodile seems too afraid, and the Ralsius seems, well, far too impulsive for my tastes. I'm going to have to take my chances with Fire and Grass, and then make a final decision. If I can't be satisfied with any of them, I may as well ask. However, I highly doubt he has anything, and as of yet, I haven't showed much potential for anything rarer than these six.
Secondly, he also thought about the charging Ralsius and the timid Totodile more. Now, the Totodile seems pretty spooked, but I would be too if I had to hang around with that monster all the time. I bet I wouldn't take much risk with it. The Ralsius, on the other hand, would probably task me into oblivion. Secondly, if it tried to attack me, then I'm betting that if I got it, it wouldn't be very obedient towards me.

The Ralius grunted in surprise, and right when it would collide with the wall, the Professor brought it back in its Pokeball, wiping some sweat off of his forehead. "My sincerest apologies. I forgot to warn you that some of the Pokemon are quite... mischievous..." He then brought the poor little Totodile back into its own Pokeball, and placed the two on their respective pillar.
Bill just sighed, staring at his ruined Rubik's Cube with a hint of sadness. It was one of his favorites... He tried repairing it with his power, but only succeeded in putting together a few parts. He would have to fix it later. Oh, how he hated that Ralius. It had always kept an eye on the Rubik's Cube collection of his, and today it had finally done what it wanted to...
The Professor then picked up two Pokeballs from the orange pillar. The first one was a deep orange with black stripes. The second, a brighter orange with a yellow shape of a feather on it. He opened them, and a Grista and Torchic came out. The Grista barked a playful bark, and started chasing its tail. And the Torchic just stood there, and seemed to sigh, looking around with tired, sad eyes.

Joel nodded, and eyed the two new Pokemon. He looked with some sort of joy at the playful Grista, and looked at the Torchic, which seemed unable to care about the goings-on. The Grista seems happy and able, capable of not only being spirited, but most likely brave, as well. It seems to be very energetic, which is good for long travel.
The Torchic seems very lethargic, careless and kind-of dull. It kinds of reminds me of.. well, me! These Pokemon are in stark contrast of each other; it's as if the Pokemon set me up to choosing exact opposites of each other. Timid and terrorizing, active, cheery and dull, sad. For my sake, at least they're both tame. I wonder what two opposite Pokemon the Grass-types may be. It could be a bad change, or a good one.
Joel was in a constant loop. He was not only looking at them statistically, but personally as well. "I'm sorry if I'm not correctly using your time, Professor, but the possibilities and ideas are endless. So, may I look at your last two Pokemon, the Grass types?" Confidently, he awaited to see what different Pokemon he had there as well.
This does seem sort of rude- I'm not correctly portioning my time. For all I know, it could be night already! He looked at his watch, and saw only ten minutes had passed. Good. I have a lot of time before I go out on my excursion to see the region. "Second, is there anything else with the Pokemon? I don't seem to have any necessities with me for traveling. Of course, seeing as I didn't read the sign, I'd assume there would be at least AN object."

((Heh. I wasn't even trying to make them have opposite personalities. xD I was just making them have interesting personalities for roleplay.))
The Professor brought the two fire types back into their Pokeballs, and placed them back on their pillar. "Well, the Pokemon themselves don't come with their own items, but all new trainers receive a starter pack to aid them early in their travels. Once you select your starter, I shall give you one." He smiled, picking up the two remaining Pokeballs from the green pillar. The first was dark green with a fan of leaves as a symbol on it. The second was lighter and had a sinlge leaf on it.
Once again, he released them, and a Selibulb was making a cute squeaking sound while it bounced around playfully. Then it bounced into a wall and started crying. The second was a Chikorita, and it behaved more maturely, since when the Selibulb started crying, it calmly walked over to calm it down with a soothing lullaby. "The Selibulb is still a baby, to be honest. And the Chikorita likes to take care of it." The Professor explained, glancing at the two with admiration.

Joel looked at the last two Pokemon in the list- a Selibub and a Chikorita. He had a liking for the Pokemon from Johto, and Chikorita was one of them. Selibub was all new to him. Seeing as the Selibub is still a baby, it'll need great reliance on a good trainer. It may even be a challenge. The Chikorita is already mature and more tame, and even better- has a maternal-like instinct, so it can help take care in hard, driving situations. Oh, this is too hard to choose!
Joel stood there. Here are the last choices- yet none of their personalities seem to fit me. Okay. I may as well pick one and go. But.. I can't think of anything. Joel seemed utterly downtrodden as to what to do. He could pick an insanely impulsive Pokemon, a timid Pokemon, a playful Pokemon, a dull Pokemon, a baby Pokemon, or a mature one. He was at an incredible loss as to what to choose.
"May I take a few more moments to choose, sir?" He couldn't exactly concentrate over the head-splitting chaos the Ralius drew, and he was confused by the Selibub's crying. Sure, the Chikorita calming it was nice, but it was truly strange. "Hmm..." He decided that he wouldn't dare ask anything else, but he at least wanted a few moments to think and speculate before making his final decision.
