The Professor returned them to their Pokeballs and smiled, noting how Joel was having a hard time choosing which one he wanted. For a moment, he thought about offering Joel the rarer Pokemon in stock, but then he decided against it. They would give Joel a really hard time, and they needed different trainers. "While you make up you're mind, I'll go get your Starter Pack." He stated, walking over to his desk and opening a drawer.
Inside were a few identical bags of supplies that benefited rookie trainers, and he took one of the bags out, and closed the drawer. He then strode back over to the three pillars and stood there, waiting to pick up one of the Pokeballs and give it, along with the bag, to Joel.

Joel grumbled for a moment, and then decided. "Fine." The thing has a seriously reclusive personality to me, but I guess I can deal with it. "I think I'll take-" He was about to open his mouth to say what he wanted, then he realized more. Do I really want to choose Torchic? There are many other decisions. If I studied right, Torchics evolve into Fire-Fighting type Pokemon. They gain one more weakness, but a good strength. The Totodile is scared of quite a few things, yet I can take solace that it only has two weaknesses, and it'll be constant while it evolves. It also learns Ice Fang, and I can probably find Earthquake from one of those Technical Machines I've always heard of. So, it eliminates Grass and Electric as viable weaknesses and makes it for a great means of fighting. I'm betting they'll rid of the negative personalities later.
The Chikorita sounds great, but has 5 major weaknesses, which will be a serious problem in the future. Let's make this: Chikoritas evolve into Defensive Pokemon, Totodiles evolve into All-Around Offensive Pokemon, and the Torchic would equal that of a Major Offensive Pokemon. Why does this have to be so hard? Either way, all of these Pokemon will TEAR a hole right into my progression by defensive means.
Joel stood there for a while, trying to find out an outstanding solution to the predicament and pressure of choosing a main Pokemon. He knew he would have to be with it forever- that is the gravity of the decision. Then, he came upon an idea. There is a 1 in 3 chance I'll get any of the three Pokemon. If only Professor Mahogany had a wider choice of Pokemon, I could probably choose one and be done with it right now. ..However, I guess I have to let it be. I didn't really show much potential, so it's not like anything would be given or shown.
"Professor Mahogany..." He stopped thinking, for the first time in quite a while. "I want to see the Poke-Balls of Chikorita, Torchic, and Totodile. Please put them on the table." He closed his eyes. This is probably the stupidest idea I've ever had. I suppose I'll have to do something, though. This will depend on the luck of t he draw.

((Wow... xD))
Professor Mahogany blinked a couple times in surprise, but then he shrugged, and said. "Fine, then..." He placed the bag on his desk, and then took one Pokeball from each pillar, placing them on the desk as well. He took a few steps back, and then waited for Joel to do something.
Bill, though, had already guessed what Joel was going to do, and he was quite amused. Never before had he seen a trainer do that. He has got to be the stupidest one yet! He chuckled softly to himself, and watched, his eyes on both Joel and the three dormant Pokemon.
((ShortShortShort! >.< Oh, and don't mind Bill...))

Joel closed his eyes and tapped deeply into his mind. He was acting as if he was psychic- like any burnt-out neuron would. He held the first pokeball and simply kept his hand on it. "Chikorita, the Leaf Pokemon. It is a Grass Pokemon, and judging by its maternal nature, I'm thinking that it would be perfect for defending, even through its plentiful type-weaknesses."
He let go of the Chikorita's pokeball and then put his hand on the Totodile's. "Totodile, the Big Jaw Pokemon. It is a Water Pokemon, and it seems to be frightened very easily. Because of that fact, it maybe difficult to raise and get it to be brave, but I'm sure it has potential." Letting go of Totodile's pokeball, he finally took Torchic's.
"Torchic, the Chick Pokemon. It is a Fire Pokemon. This one seems awful lethargic in nature, generally sad and sort-of dull. This Pokemon may seem to be the most difficult to raise of all of them, but I could try my best to coax it into being active." He was actually trying to act like a human Poke-Dex, rather than a psychic that moment.
He took hold of two of the pokeballs, and began scrambling them around. He tried moving them so fast that you wouldn't be able to remember where they were. In fact, he was not only trying to challenge himself, but Bill and the Professor, knowing that an Alakazam could play mind games as well as that, and the Professor should be able to have good enough concentration skills.
He opened his eyes, and grabbed one of the pokeballs. This particular one contained Chikorita. He moved it backward, showing that he would not take it. He also took the one with Torchic, and moved that one backward. He held up the Totodile pokeball. "This is the one that I'll take. While the Totodile apparently gets scared easily, I can work with it as best as I can."

Bill was quite... intrigued, to be honest. Never before had he seen someone do that before. But that amazement didn't last. Now he was thinking that Joel was being a showoff, reciting simple information that even a three-year-old could do, and stealing the act of doing it all with his eyes closed. Now he despised Joel. With a huff, he crossed his arms, and caused the other two Pokeballs to levitate and float to their pillars.
The Professor just watched, weirded out. Joel was so... strange. He seemed intelligent enough, and yet he almost seemed crazy... "Uh..." he said uneasily, lost for words. Then he shook his head as if trying to dislodge something that landed on his head, and he grabbed the Starter Pack, and held it out for Joel to take.

Joel just shrugged, and grabbed the bag. He put the items in the bag he always wore, and kept the other bag in case he needed it for some sort of emergency. He looked at the pokeball containing Totodile with intent for a few seconds, and put it back in his backpack. He was planning to take it out and travel along with it- much like a familiar, but he decided not to do it inside the building.
"Hm. I probably did something stupid, and, hell if I know, I may have made a complete and total mistake." He winked while doing so, preferably at Bill. However, for a second, he took out his Poke-Dex. "While I'm here, I may as well." He took the information of his Totodile and Bill, knowing that he may well never see an Alakazam in his travels for quite a while.
Closing the Dex, he put it back in his backpack. Putting his hand on the door, he said one final goodbye. "Goodbye, Professor Mahogany. Goodbye, Bill." Opening the door, he forgot one thing. "Also, Bill, I'm sorry about that Ralius destroying that Rubik's Cube. I probably should have asked for the Water Pokemon last." Then, he walked off on the first stretch of his journey- Overcoming Route One.
