As they walked, Kurai looked aroung at his surroundings. He'd walked this way and back many times before in the past, but he'd never bothered to actually pay attention to the area. So much he didn't know that was right in front of him. What else is right in front of me that I don't know? he thought. He didn't speak what was on his mind, or anything for that matter.

Skull looked over her shoulder at one point. Kurai was looking a little lost, like he'd never come this before. She slackened her pace a bit so that he was able to catch up with her. Sandstar the Trapinch turned his wide head back for a minute to examine the lovebirds, then snorted in annoyance and face forward again.
"What's on your mind?" The pale girl asked her boyfriend innocently. She followed his gaze as Kurai glanced around, taking in everthing they passed. It was a peacefull little road they were walking. Tall grass lined the edge of the path and some sprouted up around their feet. Not many trees cast their shade over the two new trainers. Skull squinted up irritably. It was easy to tell from her almost transparent white skin that she was rarely out in the sun for long periods of time.
Sandstar stopped and sniffed the ground curiously. He could smell the tracks of many Pokemon who had crossed and recrossed this path. But he didn't try to warn his trainer. They'd figure it out eventually....Or perhaps a more experianced human trainer would appear and give them trouble. The thought gave Sandstar a glimmer of hope. Maybe they'd have to run home before the journey even really began.

A little red breasted bird sat in the trees above. Both of his coal black eyes watched as the quartet of trainers and pokemon continued on their way. His eyes opened wide in wonderment, his beak falling open with shock, with nary a pause he called down to the two pokemon: <What are tose tings you're walking with--they are toooo ugly to be pokemon.> Of course to many humans it would be funny to hear a little scruffy bird call THEM ugly. Of course as the phrase went Beauty was in the eye of the beholder.
Taking a deep breath the spearow shrieked out his question again. Maybe they were all hard of hearing, after all each pokemon had their own strengths and weaknesses. The Spearow was obviously young, maybe a week or two older then the Torchic female, and she was a young spring chicken. A young adolescent, about ten in human years. <Hey guys wait up.. . I have questions> The Spearow stated, his entire body was brimming with curiousity. Flapping his curved light wings he clumsily glided towards the group. Allotting on a branch every so often to catch his breath. This whole flying thing was new to him, but judging by the fact that he easily caught up it was faster then walking, pit stops included. (ssssoooo Short.)

Sandstar ignored the Spearow's call at first. Barely more than a hatchling-Not at all worth his time. But as the relentless screeching went on finally the Trapinch looked around to see what all the commotion was about. The the Spearow clumsily fluttered to the ground by them he replied, <Well? What is it?> His beady little eye examined the bird carefully. <This better be quick. If my trainer sees you, I'll have to attack you.>
Skull didn't seem to notice when her Pokemon dropped back to talk to the Spearow. She was intent on not stepping into the tall grass. A battle right now would be such a drag. But after a moment it dawned on Skull that the annoying scuffling sound that Sandstar's stuby little feet made had ceased to follow her and she looked around. That stupid Trapinch had gotten himself into a battle after all!
"Oy, Sandstar!" Skull was rather irritated, but wasn't this part of being a trainer after all? Might as well try to catch the little bugger. <Grr...Now we're in trouble.> Sandstar growled. He looked back at Skull, waiting for orders. His trainer was fumbling around, trying to find the paper where she'd written all of Sandstar's stats and attacks.

Kurai stopped and looked at Skull. "Hm? What's going on?" he asked. He then saw Sandstar facing the Spearow. "Oh." was all he said. He had been too deep in thought to think about what was going on around him.
Fireball looked at Kurai, waiting to see if he wanted her to do anything. When he didn't do anything that seemed like a command, Fireball turned to look at Sandstar and the Spearow. <Need any help?> she asked Sandstar. <I hear that Spearow can often cause a bit of trouble. And of course, no one can really focus well when they're so angry.> When she wasn't given any commands, there was a very blurred line between when Fireball was serious, and when she was joking. It had gotten to the point where she wasn't sure herself.

<I was wondering what you were.> The Spearow chirped, his wings held straight out beside him, he was gasping. The hopping from branch to branch had robbed him of a lot of his curious energy. <Trainer...Attack me?> By the look on his face it was very obvious that he was extremely confused. What was a trainer ? Attack him? As in randomly try and hurt him? Why would that Trainer-thing order the nice orange boulder to do something like tat. But then she noticed.
<Sandstar...> What was te odd thing doing? Ruffling through white leaves like that.
<Angry..I'm not angry--why should I be angry?> What was there to be angry about? Also what was that bird dloing? Help the boulder do what? All the thoughts in the Spearow's head had him exremely confused. So confused that he didn't hear anything going on around him. To him the pairs conversation was just another voice trying to acatch his attention. <Trainer...attack...hurt...ow...wha? Snadstar..odd things...what?>

Sandstar glanced back at Fireball with an exasperated glance. <No, I believe I'll be fine once Skull actually learns to remember how to battle wild Pokemon.> The Trapinch sighed and rolled his eyes back at his master, who was still frantically searching.
After a full minute of digging through her poket, Skull extracted a crumpled piece of paper from her poket. "Okay....Alright...Here we go." She flattened out the paper where Sandstar's extensive list of attacks...Swagger and Bite. "Okay, Standstar...Use Bite!"

Fireball put her head up sharply letting the bones crack [For those who don't know, not painful (or loud) in the slightest. I have a habit of doing this so I would know]. <Alright, if you're sure.> she said to Sandstar. <Let me know if you change your mind.> She changed her position from standing on Kurai's shoulder to just sitting on it lazily.
Kurai didn't say anything. He stood back and watched. Part of him thought that he should actually do something as a trainer. But he decided not to. This was Skull's battle. He shouldn't interfere.

The Spearow's eyes widened in indignation. <Am i being ignored--What did I do wrong?> Really he had said please, and listened, and waited like he had always been taught to. Yet they had said nothing to him, and talked amongst themselves. In effect completely ignoring him. Maybe he had to yell again. Leaning forward he toook a deep breath and began to shout: <HEL---HUH!?>
The inquiry was more of a gasp then anything. All he had been doing was chatting to those below, and the trainer had suddenly yelled out an order to "BITE". Which the Trapinch did. Closing his eyes thee Spearow cringed agiast the tree, his red breast making it impossible to dissolve into the bark like he so sorely wished he could. Opening his eyes he stared down and blinked. <Why'd she tell you to bite the tree?> The tree hadn't done anything wrong. After all what idiot would try to attack him by attacking the base of a tree? So earlier had Sandstar been talking to the tree? The Spearow leaned forward, and surveyed the damage, huge splinters of rough tree bark fell to the ground, leaving a child like sun piece of white flesh visible. The poor tree had taken a beating.

Sandstar turned and glared at his trainer, spitting splinters out from between his teeth. Of course his powerful jaws hadn't taken any damage from attacking the tree, but then again wood doesn't taste too good. <Nice going, Skull. The Pokemon is up there.> He jerked his large head to where the Spearow was perched on a branch.
Putting her hands on her hips, Skull glared right back at her Trapinch. "Don't give me that look." She snapped. "I just give the orders. Maybe you should have had enough common sense to climb the tree before using bite!" Tension crackled between the two for a moment, but was broken when Sandstar turned his attention back to the Spearow.
Skull gave Kurai a quick, anxious look before glancing again at her cheat sheet. Her mind was working at a mile a minute, thinking up strategies. "Alright, let's try something different." She announced. "We have to lure it out of the tree, so...Sandstar, use Swagger!"
Sandstar took a deep breath and puffed out his little chest, swelling to twice his size. His beady eyes gleamed mischieviously. <I suppose it's best if you hide up in that tree.> The Trapinch taunted the Spearow. <I can't blame you for being frightened of taking on a powerful adversary like myself.> He clacked his jaws and tried to look very full of himself.

Kurai couldn't help but look at the ground. He didn't know whether to blame Skull or Sandstar for what happened, but either way, it was really pathetic. It was then that he realized this would be a very long journey. "Gyagh." he said out loud, but quietly, hoping Skull wouldn't hear.
Fireball laughed at Sandstar. <Powerful adversary! Sure!> she said. <This is the first battle you've had the whole journey! What experience could you have to back that claim up?>

<Oh..so you DO know I am here...> It took a few seconds for it to sink in, that they had been referring to a miss. A failure. That being the attack on the tree, which had been meant for him. Stiffening the confused Spearow stared down at the odd quartet. "Wha--what did I do? Was I rude?" maybe the odd featherless two legger had been imsulted just by him speaking to it. Maybe this "Skull" was some kind of leader. Of course if that was the case, then why did theTrapinch talk to it that way? My head hurts...to much thinking.
<But he can't climb, his legs are to tiny...> The Spearow muttered quietly, now he was shaking. He was just curious, so this was why he had been taught never to ask questions. Not that it had annoyed his mother lllike everyone claimed.
The Trapinch blew out a puff of hot air, then taunted the little Spearow. <Why would I wanna dot hat--I don't want to fight--and whatever I said I am so sorry--> Then the Swagger hit. Without thinking about anyting temper raising he felt his red breast feathers spread out in anger. Soething had jsut really ticked him off, without a explanation the mild tempered bird jumepd fown to the next branch, enough sanity remaining to keep him just out of jaw's reach. "What did ya say!?" The bird pokemon squawked angrily. Even if he had no idea why he was pissed, and very confused about it. (SHORT SORRY--the rest was for you peo...oh and by the way start counting your words for battle)[/size]

A smirk spread across Sandstar's broad face. He parted his jaws slightly and let out a low growl, followed by the one word: <Gotcha.> Without waiting for Skull to say the command, Sandstar lept forward, mouth wide, teeth glinting in the sunlight. He was aiming for a critical blow to the Spearow's red-feathered head.
Skull had just been about to shout out the attack order "Bite!" but her Trapinch was already about to clamp his wide jaws around the Spearow's head. Suddenly worried for it's safty, Skull called out, "Sandstar, be careful! I don't want it hurt too badly!" The pasty trainer was, after all, planning on capturing the little bird. She hadn't forgotten that Spearow evolved into Fearow, a very powerful bird Pokemon.
Distracted by Skull's call, Sandstar faltered a tad in his attack, listing to one side slightly. But the Trapinch quickly returned his attention to biting the Spearow, though now he would be careful not to injure it so that his trainer could capture it. A dead or wounded Spearow would be no good to her.
(Alright...Should I count the last post for experiance points, or just this one? Sorry Darku...I kinda took over this battle. ^^; )

The word brought up another wave of rage in the young Spearow. Why he had no idea. Hell it wasn't even a insult, just a word of triumph, often used after a particularry delicious joke. The Spearow watched as the Trapinch bent his stubby little legs and leaped, his huge clamp like jaws coming right for his head. Stiffening his muscles he stared coldly at the Trapinch.
Te voice of the female human cut trough the confused din of anger that was now his mind. <Don' want to hurtm e---DONT WANT TO HURT ME! LOOK AT TOSE TEETH! > Blinking the Spearow began shaking his head, the anger slowly disappating, but the sight of the ugly things mouth brought it back. Steeling himself the Spearow stukc out a wing, not to harm the Trapinch but to give it something to lock onto. His wing twisted uncomfortably as the tip feathers were locked in the Trapinch's jaws.
With a loud "SPEAR' the little Spearow brought his head down in a arc, a white point forming on the tip of his beak. It was PECK time. Yet when the attack was over his head continued moving, and he poked himself in the stomach. The sharp pain caused by his "mouth" sent him staggering back. His wing pulling painfully as he did so. (Yeah it does--there was an attack after all)

Sandstar let out a grunt as he felt his teeth close around feather. The sharp fangs sliced neatly through the tough middle of the feathers, cutting and bending quite a few of them. Flight would be awkward for this Spearow until its feathers grew back in. With an angry snarl, Sandstar reared back, spitting out bits of feather.
Pain lanced through his skull as Peck collided solidly with the top of his round hed. Sandstar snarled again and quickly jumped back, out of attacking range. The Spearow's beak kept going though, and it stabbed itself in the stomach. <Hah!> Sandstar barked triumphantly. <Now that was a silly move!>
"Now Sanstar, use bite again!" Skull screamed. While the Spearow was clumsily staggering about after its own attack, Sandstar lunged forward again, this time clamping his jaws around the thin, featherless leg of the Spearow. He twisted himself around behind the wild Pokemon, hopefully out of the reach of its beak.
(When would it be weak enough for me to capture it? About now?)
