Corina, a young girl of 14, hurried across the town, a small black purse swinging at her side. Her eyes were narrowed, and she kept glancing back over her shoulder. She hadn't told her friends she was going on a journey, and didn't plan to. They wouldn't understand why she was leaving now, after all they'd been through. As the lab began to loom ahead of her, thoughts of her old pet, Skull the Houndour, who had been killed by a boy she had known long ago, Jon. She still didn't know what had happened to Jon, but she hoped he had been punished severely.
Her ocean green eyes flashed in the setting sun's light. Yeah, maybe it was a weird choice of time to start a Pokemon journey, but Corina didn't want to be caught out in the light, walking to the lab by any of her friends. They would find out she was gone soon enough, when her best girl friend got the letter she had wrote her. For now, the only thing to worry about was getting a starter. Though she still missed Skull, she was about over the major grief, and she was now completely ready to start her journey. Her friends, who had depended upon her at first, would be fine now. She had made quite a group out of the scared, lonely children who she had first met after the death of Skull.
Now she stopped at the mat in front of the door to the Lab. After wiping her feet, she knocked, and entered slowly, knowing that Bill didn't like it when you just waltzed in. She had been here before, but hadn't talked to the Professor. It had been back when the 'gang' was still together, and she and another child had gone around the outside of the lab, looking around. She had never been inside, but she had been close enough. Now she put on her best wide smile, shook her long hair out of her eyes, and waved at the Professor and Bill.
"Hi. I'm Corina. I'm here for my starter."

"Thank you for letting yourself in." Sarcastic?Annoyed?Angry? With Bill's emotionless voice it was hard to tell if he was being serious or if he was angry at Corina. Yet when he went no farther with his statement it was easy enough to decide that he was indifferent on the matter. Seeing the girl wave he let out a snort through his nose. She was a hometown brat, no doubt one whose parents had grown up here, and were researchers hoping to be close to the Professor. In the region of Remoor he was a bit of a celebrity. Of course it had been a while since anyone but a child had bothered the three residents of the lab.
The professor smiled at Corina. Bill had been annoyed, but not enough to say anything.Especially when he and the Professor had been doing one of their favorite things. Working on compiling the Professors notes on rare pokemon into a journal, one that would be sent in to be bound, and likely published. The Alakazam especially liked this chapter of the journal, one that spoke of a bond between certain types of Pokemon(other then psychic)and their trainers so strong that a feeling of deep empathy had been created.Occasionally that bond even went into the two being able to communicate with their minds alone. Interesting stuff.
The Professor nodded at the girl's simple statement. Trying to ignore Bill's telepathic message , a very rude one that contained the words 'doesn't she , and well does anyone ever come for something else.' It was very depressing, and being the only one Bill chose to talk to in that manner he sometimes felt insane. Bill had never been like that as a Abra, in fact when they had first come to the lab he had been even more excited to the professor, but unlike the other lab they had walked at this one lacked the scientific equipment, and Super computers to toy around with. It was really depressing to the Alakazam, and he had soon lost his little spark of fun loving style. That was now replaced by an grouchy, psychic-type who liked to take naps.

Corina gave Bill a dirty look. Most beginers coming here were probably intimidated by him, but Corina knew he couldn't really do anything to her. He'd get in trouble, wouldn't he? So after she finished glaring at him, she turned to the Professor, and ignored the Pyschic-type completely. There were more important things than him.
"Right, so, anything I should know before I pick?" She asked, placing one hand on her hip and letting one leg bend slightly, so that she was leaning a bit to the left side.
She flicked her head, her purple hair swished messily to the side, and then fell back in her face. This time she ignored it, just keeping her gaze focused on the Professor and his moody Alakazam. She hoped whatever Pokemon she got weren't like that. She shut her eyes so that she could roll them without them noticing. She just wanted to get on with this so she could start, already. And she wasn't in a good mood, her friends would think she hated them and had abandoned them, and that wasn't a good thing to know of, and not be able to do anything about.

Corina's glare was returned, with a roll of his eyes, and then a glare that matched Corina's. Not to mention a slight tinging of blue around te Pschic-types black irises, was evident in the narrowed eyed stare. This was his, and Jame's(afterthought)lab after all, she need not act so high and mighty because she was getting her first pkemon. Bill had the right to act however he wished, he lived here, she didn't. Although he would let it go for now, another incident like that and she would find herself upsode down, until the Alakazam decided to let her down from the ceiling fan's blade. he had only done that to the fellow that had dumepd his pokeball in the toilet, and of course that Miika child, who hadn't knocked and had enough nerve to tough him.Bad idea, even the professor was sparse with handshakes.
The professor was used to teenager's rudeness.Bill was like one at times, and so it didn't really bother him. No point in telling her not to be rude whatever pokemon she gained would be more then enough to teach her that. Pokemon had a way of making sure you lost whatever confidence, or cockiness you had. "That would compromise things choose." Nothing she needed to know at all. It really wouldn't have compromised anything. But he wanted her to be stuck with whatever her first choice was.
Things usually worked out better that way. Yet sometimes when it came to cocky trainers they picked ap okemon on its rumors of power alone. Without having the strength to train it they learned real fast not to go above their league to far. Hopefully though this girl was just not having a good day. In fact she looked familiar, ah yes that Houndoom's death was all over the newspapers. Some litte picture of the girl had been in the paper as well ,it wasn't often that something dangerous hapenedi n this town, of cours if that back gate ever gave in to that skarmory, it would be disastorous.

"Right." Corina sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Don't bother helping at all. I'll do just fine." She looked at her feet, almost certain that they were thinking about Skull's death. They probably didn't care that he was dead, didn't care how much it had hurt her. Looking back up, she locked gazes with the Professor.
"I'd like a Grista." She said, scuffing one sneaker across the floor. Grista's were cool, especially after they evolved. And they were part fire-type, just like Skull had been...Only differance between taking care of them would be that they weren't old and arthritic, and would be a handful of untrained potential... It'd be fun though.

"Alright my girl.Just thought'd I would offer." The professor added. She had no reason to be outwardly grouchy. Upon hearing the statement of her choice in a Grista he nodded. So the girl wanted familiarity instead of a difference, there was nothing hard to understand there. If one of his pokemon out back died he would definitely go for a pokemon of the same type or color, and if he could achieve it even of the same over all species. Turning towards the fire pedestal he gripped the new Grista's pokeball in her hand. Her Houndour had been old, this was a pretty new one, and one full of life. As soon as the pokeball was in her hand, she changed. Instead of slouching, she stood up straight, and a smile danced across her face. She clutched the black backpack now holding all of her new items, and nodded at the Professor and Bill.
"Thank you guys, so much. Sorry if I've been...rude. I'm just nervous." She said, her gaze returning to the pokeball, "Anything else before I set out?"
She was focused, still, mainly on her new Pokemon's home. The pokeball pulsed with energy, she could almost feel the life inside of it. Pressing the button with her thumb, she released her Grista, and smiled reassuringly at him as he blinked in confusion. "Hey, there. I'm Corina, your new trainer."
"Grisss!" He cooed, softly. <Nice to meet you. Though you can't understand me yet...>

"It's quite alright. We--" Upon seeing Bill's now distraught face, it was obvious he wouldn't get to extract punisment today. So the professor changed his statement. "I understand. Nothing that I can think of, unless you are confused on how to use the Pokedex." No trainer so far had asked, so e figured they had all either studied on it, or really didn't think it was important. The professor disagreed, it told you what moves your oppenent knew, so you were better prepared to take them out.
The professor had been laughed at for struggiling to pull the old much larger pokedexes out of his pocket in the heat of battle. Yet there had been no surprises awaiting him.
