Name: Legendary (That's "it", right? xD)
Gender: Male
Race: Rainbow Pokemon
Age: Over 7000 years old altogether
Sexuality Preference: Asexual
Appearance:
Those who know where to find Ho-oh, hoping for a glimpse, are sadly denied a look at this beautiful creature. He purposefully keeps himself hidden away in Ecruteak's Tin Tower, surrounding himself with raging flames. On the occasion that he does leave the Tower and therefore smothers the flames, one would be blessed with the sight of a creature that calls up images of the mythical phoenix, or for the well-informed, the Chinese fènghuáng.
He is a bird of gargantuan size, his height while standing towers over most humans at a massive 12 and a half feet. His avian bone-structure, however, makes him light for his size, only a moderate 139 lbs.
Living up to his name of the Rainbow Bird, Ho-oh's feathers are a variety of hues. From his head, over the top of his body and wings, and down to the base of his tail, he is a vibrant shade of burnt orange. On his stomach and the first half of his flight feathers, the color is off-white. The tips of his flight feathers and a ring around his long neck are chartreuse green, a stunning contrast to the rest of his mostly warm-hued plumage. His crest of distinctly-curled feathers and long tail feathers are the color of saffron, a spice that many consider to be associated with fire. His large beak, perfectly adapted to snap up fish in not-too-far ocean, is the same shade of yellow. His legs are scaled and rough, the color of ash. Sharp claws are on the end of each of his four toes, three pointing forward and one back to give him better grip while perching. The small feathers around his eyes are pitch black, only serving to enhance his eyes, which dance with the colors of his famous flames. His feathers have the unique capability of refracting light into the seven shades of the rainbow, leaving a trail wherever he flies.
His most depicted pose is of him in flight, beak open in a deafening screech as he defends his home from intruders. Wings and feathers raised to make him appear even larger and his crest raised in defiance, he is a fierce opponent to be sure. In all truth, the great Rainbow Bird is more commonly found (or he would be if many people came to find him) resting about his nest. Said nest is a large thing and well-kept. Made of a myriad of different species of branches, grasses, and leaves, as well as dried mud, his nest is a comfortable place to roost. He spends most of his time tucked up in the nest, feathers ruffled and head tucked beneath a wing. He dozes often and spends other fragments of time contemplating various things. When a need to fly sets in, he leaves the Tower and travels the world, seeing everything with his keen eyes. At this time, he rides the wind, still relaxed and calm, but with a definite purpose in each wing beat.
Personality:
Ho-oh lives up to his respectable position of being a savior and guardian of the Legendary Beasts as well as the watcher over the Tin Tower and the rest of Ecruteak. Those people and Pokemon who know him well speak of him with reverence.
He dislikes conflict but is an avid speaker in discussions. He has his opinions and makes sure that others know of this. However, he rarely pushes his feelings onto others, instead choosing to compromise so that all parties involved have a fair deal. He speaks eloquently but never with more words than needed, and his voice is surprisingly gentle and soft.
For a creature who dislikes conflict, he is most certainly not a pushover. Those images of him as an intimidating creature are not founded on fallacy. He has a vehement dislike of intruders, most of whom have less-than-honest intentions. He is ready to defend himself and fight if need be at a moment's notice. He is also prepared to fight for the protection of others, casting him as an opponent of Team Pravus.
Perhaps it is due to the fire in his blood, but in battle, Ho-oh is wild and destructive, preferring to destroy his enemy as soon as possible. His special attack 'Sacred Fire' usually leaves his opponent burned and with hardly any strength to stand, The fact that his accuracy is nearly impeccable only adds to his ferocity.
Ho-oh tries to maintain a humble aura about himself although many would disagree. His list of accomplishments are known the world over and his reputation often exceeds his presence. When asked about one of these times, particularly when he resurrected the Beasts, he simply states 'I did what must be done.'
Speaking of the Beasts, he looks upon Suicune, Entei, and Raikou with paternal devotion. More so than other Pokemon, he is fiercely protective of them. When in their presence, he tends to dote and makes sure that they are all well. It is a bittersweet moment when they all must part ways again and he also looks forward to whenever their next reunion shall be, rare as they are.
Thanks to his hermit-like lifestyle, Ho-oh doesn't have many close companions. He honors and respects many other Legendaries but is not one to spill any secrets or feelings to him. Back when Lugia still made his home in Brass Tower, Ho-oh found a steady friend and rival. Lugia's departure left Ho-oh lonely and saddened for a long time, until he grew comfortable with his solitary existence. He still has feelings of resentment at being abandoned which his logical mind cannot quell. This is the cause for his untouchable demeanor.
History:
Ho-oh has made his home in the Tin Tower for as long as any human can remember. But other Legendaries can recall the days he spent flying over the world, roosting wherever he found suitable shelter and taking flight soon after.
It was only a short time after he had settled into his home alongside the humans that the Guardian of the Sea, Lugia, claimed the Brass Tower as his new home. Ho-oh had fought Lugia, both feeling threatened by being in such close quarters with such different creatures. After being defeated by Lugia's water attacks, Ho-oh and Lugia formed a strange truce. Ho-oh would watch the skies while Lugia would protect the seas.
It was later that the three sibling Beasts appeared and made themselves at home within Lugia's tower. The days were good back then, Ho-oh can recall. Peace and harmony reigned.
One night, there was a terrible thunderstorm. Ho-oh of course was capable of quieting the storm had he been there but he had gone to Olivine City's port. A freak bolt of lightning struck the Brass Tower, setting it ablaze. When Ho-oh returned, Lugia was gone and Suicune, Raikou, and Entei were dead. Guilt welling up within him, he let out a call of grief and rage, using all of his power to reincarnate them. They had left soon after.
Roleplay Sample:
The half-morning life made stirrings of awakening ripple throughout the town. Outside the open windows of the Tin Tower, the mighty bird could hear the sounds of a flock of Pidgeys rising from their nests, human families awaking to greet the day.
Ho-oh had always looked at new days with a special significance. It was the start of a new adventure, another chance to make the most of one's life. He inhaled the still-dewy air with hunger.
After making a long show out of stretching his elegant wings, he picked strayed feathers back into place. Morning routine achieved, he sat in silence for a few more moments.
A yearning swirled and churned within him, filling Ho-oh with feelings of restlessness. Something didn't feel right, but what it was, he couldn't tell.
The sky was covered with a blanket of thick clouds, obscuring most of what would be a beautiful dawn. The light was dim enough to cover Ho-oh as he took flight from the Tower, flying upward as quickly as his wings could take him. As soon as he was above the overcast clouds, he let out a caw that contained his feelings of worry for whatever was wrong and also his delight at the freedom the skies offered. He tilted his wings, changing his course towards where his Pokemon instincts said he was needed.
He reveled in the feeling of the wind passing over, under, and through each feather, the way they glided him over the currents. His powerful chest muscles beat his wings in a steady rhythm as he skimmed just inches about the clouds.
After hours of floating above the clouds (which has turned into bright puffy things,) he descended gently into the Emerald Forest of the Remoor Region. Here was where the trouble was and here was he he should be.
