Zenny was not happy. It was raining. He was cold. He was hungry.
Leah, on the other hand, trudged along determinedly back down the Isabella Plains. "Don't be so upset, Zenny!" She said cheerily when he shot her a crimson glare. "You should love the rain! You have a flower on your back!" "Bulba, bulba, bulba..." <Why... I outta...> It was obvious he hated the rain with all of his guts, including the flower-part of him. "Zen-zen, the rain is great! Sometimes it draws pokemon out of their nests..." Although Leah was overjoyed about the rain, nothitng made Zenny perk up or even look enthusiastic. However, Leah didn't care... she was (almost) perfectly dry, trading in her tanktops for a large brown jacket and her straw hat for a "savannah" hat. Finally. "Zenny, do you want to hitch a ride?"
"Bulbasaur!" She picked up the plump, frog-like pokemon and deposited him in her backpack, where he rummaged around greedily until finding half of an herb-cookie. It was gone in minutes, leaving behind only few trails of green crumbs. "Buuuullba." <That was good, but I ate too fast...> He mumbled, sick to his stomache. Leah got the drift and laughed as she continued walking. "That's what you get for eating too fast!"
After several minutes of silence, Leah finally came to a twisted, windmarked tree that looked oddly familiar. She slouched down on a gnarled root sticking up like a bench and glanced around, eyes seeking out every detail. "Huh..." Leah murmured as Zenny crawled out of the backpack, shaking the rain of his skin like a dog would. He suddenly froze, crimson eyes glancing around the route. "BULBA! Bulbabulbabulbabulba-saur!" <NO! This is where that demon Sentret baby was! Get back up!> He mewed frantically, ramming Leah's feet anxiously. "Ow, Zenny, stop it, that hurts!" She complained, pulling her feet out of his reach. "Bulba! Buulba..." <Come on! No fair...> He finally gave up and laid down, glancing around suspiciously. The Bulbasaur really, really didn't want to see that demonic sentret ever again.

The shape in the branches of the gnarled trees was the brown of a sentret, but yet it only had two feet, while the senret had four, albeit two were rarely used. Besides this creature had not one hint of fur, but was covered in arrow shaped feathers the color of mud. Its eyes were the same deep brown as the Sentret they had encountered earlier. Of course they were less insnae, and a lot more open.
<Oh, the little fellow must be talking about the on' that sleeps at the bottom of this tree.> He knew quite well that demonic little beast. The sentret seemed so sweet, and so frightneed, but onc one allowed it to start playing its games it changed into a raving lunatic, who took the game of tag to the next level. Of course he and his flock had found that out the hard way. Well it had been his much more naive brother's flock, what use would the sentret had been even if it hadn't been insane? and horribly fierce to boot?
Shaking some spare raindrops from his wet head he failed to realize that the words echoing back in the silence were his own. The pidgey was considerably mroe friendly then the Sentret, but he was wary of anything or anyone not covered in feathers. Although right now, he doubted the pair would bother looking up here, for any reason, much less a bird pokemon. Besides if they did look up, what would they spot a shadow? Before they investigated rain would probably drown them.
Of course it as easier to find out his location from the echoes, and the ruffles his feathers made every time they moved, mostly to draw off the rain. (342--what level is Zenny?)

The rain, instead of lightening up, got only heavier. The tree's leaves hardly offered shelter much longer, and Leah moved closer in to the trunk. Zenny followed her wearily, mumbling under his breath. "Bulba, bulba - saur, bulba -- bulba saurabulb...?" <Great, rain - who's great idea was it to come out in the middle of the storm...?> Leah glanced down at the dirt. It seemed to be quickly turning to mud, which was rather depressing. After all -- Zenny would probably be stubborn enough to stay on the ground, and p robably felt a little bit of hurt pride: Last night at the Pokemon Center, he'd been "socializing" with someone's ratata, and it didn't end well -- the Ratata won. At least they'd been right there at the Center. Leah heard the rustling of wings and glanced around halfheartedly. It probably was just a Dia flickering into invisibility and roosting in the tree: Leah wasn't going to waste time trying to catch something that she couldn't even there. Wait! There that sound was again! A Dia, by now, would have settled in and've become silent. The young trainer glanced around, curiosity piqued. About six or seven feet above her was a large pidgey, sporting a rather soaked set of cream-and-chocolate feathers. It was right above Zenny, just out of his line of vision. "Zenny..." She murmured, slowly opening her backpack and preparing to grab anything -- pokeballs, potions, even the absolutely random chance of an antidote. The bulbasaur glanced around lazily, stretching before standing up. "Ba?" <Wha?> Leah glanced at the pidgey. She could easily believe that it'd feel less like attacking if Zenny growled -- no one voiced it, but he sounded more like a housecat than an adversary. "Zenny, growl." She hissed, hoping to sound commanding and in charge. The bulbasaur blinked. "Bulba, bulbsaur?" <At what, genius?> He couldn't see anything at all, since the pidgey was right above him and the leaves were thick, albeit being beaten down quite a bit. Still, he obliged, pulling his lip back and baring both of his thorn-lilke teeth. Grrrrrrr... The rumbling echoed up through the tree.

(Well, thats one level.Don't add it in yet.)(174 LEFTOVER) The pidgey tilted his head as the bulbasaur 'growled' at him. Even in the all pouring rain the Pidgey tried his best to keep his good humor. Besides wasting a dive at this toad would only mean wet down feathers for him, and more then likely a cold couple of days. So no, it would take a lot more then a laughable attack to make him get sick. Besides, there was no fun in attacking a newbie.
Shaking his head to rid his feathers of water the slight upcurve of his beak was visible, it was a small smile but a smile no less. Due to the easyness his beak assumed that position it was obvous this bird smiled quite a lot. 'pid-gey-pdg-gey geeey-geeeeeey--pidg-gey ' <Who are you growling at boy? Why who else but me? Who else do you see around here, in this accursed weather?> The who's resembled the sound a sleeping Hoot Hoot made right before it woke up in the morning. Both of his brown eyes briefly glanced heavenward, as if telling the rain to stop before he had to take action.
Cooing slightly the pidgey shuffled his feet until he was mroe sheltered from the sheeting rain. Of course now his white chest feathers stood out, nd it was much easier to make out his form .Especially when the sky above was reeved open by a mighty thunderbolt, followed by the large clap of coulds rubbign against one another.

Leah tensed as the pidgey moved forward: was the pidgey finally going to make a move? She opened her mouth, ready to issue the 'tackle' command, but it didn't seem to be attacking.... but when the fluffed-up pidgeon talked, Zenny tackled the tree in an attempt to knock the pidgey out into his range. "Bulbasa-saur! Bulba, bulba, bulbasaursaur!" <Hey, who're you calling "boy"?! Come down and say that to my face!> Zenny was starting to make it obvious that he was rather... sensitive to comments, no matter how neutral they were. The bulbasaur rammed his enormous, flat head against the tree again, but it barely even trembled. Sure, he had a lot of weight backing up that tackle, but not enough to, well, knock it over. The teenaged rookie trainer studied their adversary curiously. He seemed like an almost gentlemanly creature, one for which an easy smile came and laughter even easier. The kind of person it would be pleasant to spend time with, really. Still... "Zenny, growl." She commanded, adjusting her enormous hat so that she could watch the battle with ease... she'd risen without noticing, and stood as still as a statue. Zenny paused a moment, eyes narrowing. "Buuulbaaa..." <I'll do more that growl, if I get my way!> He snarled, his straining vocal cords creating something that might be considered mildly intimidating. Might. There was still a lot of experience he'd have to gain before Zenny'd get anywhere.

<What do you wish for me to call you..child?> The pidgey replied, the vibrations from the tackle doing little more then massage his grey feet. My, this little fellow had a horrible temper. Blinking his brown eyes he watched as the trainer turned her head, and gave a quiet command.
'pid--geeeey<Come now, in this weather?> He questioned. The next growl taking him back into his semi laughing state, and the following tackle took him out of the tree, where he landed, rather undignified in a puddle below. Coming up, he somehow still managed his look of polite disinterest, though his fiery heart told a different emotion. Of course a gentle man never showed his anger. Which was what the pidgey was trying to show himself as.
<alright, so what do wish of me?> He asked, bowing his head slightly. This little rogue wouldn't dare to attack him in this weather would he? No that simply wouldn't fly with the older pidgey.

"Bulba! Bulbasaur, a-bulba-bulba!" Zenny barked, exasperatedly. <What makes you have to call me anything?> He kneaded the ground in between his feet, turning mud and clay into a soupy mess. <If you're so old'n mature, than why aren't you a Pidgeotto, or have a trainer, or something? You're probably not even as strong as me, ya fancy-schmancy overgrown rat with wings!>
Okay. So, perhaps Zenny's insults weren't very sophisticated. But, they were still insults to the polite, well-mannered pidgey, and they seemed to have the taste of a challenge to them. With the pidgey's fall, Zenny snorted loudly and then tried to cover up his amusement. <You've got some serious skills, right there, I mean, you're incredibly graceful.> Zenny probably would deserve to have the pidgey kick his immature, rude, obnoxious, and plump hind-end, but Zenny was awfully confident. Leah raised an eyebrow when the pidgey landed, but said nothing pointedly or rude. She simply traced the small, dark-red burnmark near her eye, deep in thought. Most pidgeys were a bit more... graceful than that, really. Perhaps it was just the distortion of the rain, or maybe the pidgey had a broken wing... Or maybe it was just plain clumsly. Either way, it would make a pretty decent opponent for her gluttonous bulbasaur. "Zenny, Tackle." She intoned, the 'T' word hardly leaving her lips before Zenny sprang into action. <I was afraid you'd never say it!> Zenny yelled as he hurtled towards the fallen pidgeon, leaping for the last two feet. Of course, the tree was uncomfortably close to his target, but confidence was already clouding his better vision.
<I want'cha to fiiiiiight!>

<Such disrespect.> The pidgey muttered. Somehow still managing to look noble, with his small frame covered in moist mud, and cascades of rain water dripping to the ground from the crown of his head. Allowing a small smirk to spread across his face he peered at the bulbasaur, and quietly before the attack made a threat. <Threaten me again, and I'll wake HER up, you don't want that do you?>
Of course the effect this threat had on Zenny was lost , the Bulbasaur thundering toward him, the kind Pidgey let out a frustarated sigh. Taking a step back, and dipping his head to the trainer, he lifted his wing, and gently swung it at Zenny's passing backside. Pitiful. He probably hadn't even seen that coming. Probably a incompetent trainer, was all. Tsk, this fellow does seem a bit lacking in the intellect department though (Short, sorry)

Zenny stumbled and hit the puddle of mud face-first. Although the pidgey's attack had left his hindend stinging, what had been more damaged was his pride... and it certainly didn't help any when his trainer burst out with a fit of giggles. He sat up slowly, all excited or hyper emotions gone from his now-brown face. <Who's side are you on?> Zenny demanded, and although Leah didn't understand pokemon-chatter, the meaning was clear enough from his tone and his growl. Most of her laughter subsided, but a thin smile was left on her face as she studied their opponent with new eyes. "You're a wily little fellow, aren't you?" Leah asked, tilting her head to the side. He didn't look like much, that little rain-soaked pidgey covered in mud, but he certainly was... what was the word? Leah looked over at the discontent Zen, and let out a little laugh again. Grandfatherly. The pidgey struck her as a respectable old man.
"Zenny, tackle!" The command came again, despite the new opinion of their opponent. Zenny wasted no time as he propelled his tank-like body torwards the pidgey, ignoring the mud in his face (although it would probably impair his vision a bit) and the slippery mud underneath. Wait... slippery! It was almost comical to watch Zenny slip, fall, and yet keep sliding torwards the pidgey, albeit... slowly. "Zen-ny!" Leah complained, and Zenny popped back up and began running at the pidgey again, trying to use their slippery terrain to his advantage.

Seing the human's eyes on him the pidgey inclined his head. Barely turning in time to see the mud covered Zenny hurtling towards him. Since he barely had time to see the incoming danger he really had no chance to dodge it. Backwards the pidgey went, coughing from the pressure the sliding Zenny had applied to his chest. Landing kneeling in the mud he sighed. So thesee two weren't playing around just because of the weather? Their choice. Even if it was a bad one. He just hoped the ltitle monster underneath the tree wouldn't wake up, and attack him. But it would awake if he knocked this Bulbasaur down there, then he'd get a good thrashing, and maybe a lesson in manners. Although it would be a painful one.
Shaking his head free of mud the 'grandfather' pidgey hurtled in. Running? No. He walked to attack, short confident strides that carried him over to Zenny before he lifted up his beak and struck downwards to where his head had been. Then with a loud 'ommph he slipped, and fell face first into the mud.
