At her hometown Sunrise City, the sun was shining bright and splendidly. On her way to Barkwish Town, the sun slowly lost its shimmer, but stayed its warm self. When she reached Barkwish Town, the sun looked a little dimmer than she saw in Barkwish Town, but it still had sparks. And now, standing before Professor Mahogany's lab, the clouds have suddenly kicked in and blocked the gorgeous sun from view. Megs Namine Sachiho turned round to watch as the clouds spread out more, covering the town in a shade. Soon, it was going to rain.
Megs went back on concentrating her real mission. She steps up to the steel door and reads carefully at the list of starters available. "Let's see..." Megs said, her squinting. Suddenly, a drop of water hit Megs's cheek. She looked up into the sky and saw the rain pour down from the gloomy clouds. "Ah! I'm gonna get soaked!" Megs panicked, still reading the list. "Ouch! What was that?" Megs then said, rubbing her head. Whatever it was, more of it came down.
"Hail, too? Jeez, this isn't a good day to start a journey." Megs said, guarding her head with her hands. Megs quickly looked at the list one last time and then knocked on the door with a wet hand. After a short moment, she banged on the door with her fist twice. "Anyone here?" Megs shouted. Her outfit was beginning to get quite drenched.

The first knock was lost to the Professor. The loud cacophony caused by the rain and hail colliding with the lab had made it extremely hard to distinguish one noise from another. So James mistook the quiet knock for a hailstone, and went back to work, his ballpoint pen moving over the white paper. It was occasionally accented by a loud "tap" as between penstrokes Bill slammed his hand down on the desk. To him the first knock had been audible, but it was a stupid teenager, they'd go away, besiedes opening the door meant he would have to mop the floor later.
Then the second set of knocks echoed through the room. Bill slammed his hand down on his desk. "Idiot could have just ran home." The Professor blinked, but not at all disturbed he began to stride towards the door. Reaching out he turned the knob, nad pulled the metal door inward. A hailstone narrowly missing the rims o his thin glasses. Seeing the young girl huddled in the rain, his face turned into a mask of concerned horror. "COme in, Come in! You're soaked, maybe I have some clothe...well I probably..." The rest if hs statement dissolved into a string of random babblings. Most having to do with clothes, and hot chocalte.
Bill shook his hea,d and with a push of psychic energy slammed the door shut. His pan sized yellow hand made its way to his face, into it he sighed. Opening one eye he groaned. A puddle of water now gathered in front of the door. "You're mopping that up james." The Professor merely made a nonommital hum, and then continued to talk to himself. Then with a start turned toward Megen.
"Oh sorry dear. I am professor James Mahoghan--James." Reaching out he paused. "Are those clothes cold? I am sure I have a replacement or two, and you could use our drier." Now his words were as fast as the rain pounding on th window, he really wanted to get her warm and fixed up before he had angry parents pounding on his door.

Megs was completely surprised by the warm welcome she was receiving so suddenly. She took moments to realize what was going on. "Oh, right." she said quietly to herself. She watched Bill slam shut the door in amazement and didn't pay attention to Professor James Mahogany. When she noticed that there was less noise in the room, she spun her head to look at the concerned Pokemon Rea searcher. 'What was he saying...?' Megs thought stupidly. "Um..." she said, not particularly sure of what to say.
"Right, well...um, I'm Megen Sachiho, but everyone back at home calls me Megs. Wha, what was it you were saying?" 'That was stupid of me to ask,' Megs thought. She took her eyes off the professor and let them wander around the lab. It looked rather nice. Or at least, nicer than her dirty, messy jungle of a room. And it was much better than outside in the rain and hail. Megs then realized that she was wet.
She began looking down at her shoes up to her chest. 'I'll have to call Mom and ask her to send me some more clothes,' Megs thought, feeling at her hair. It was terribly wet and her goggles were hazed up from the weather. She took her goggles off and rubbed them with her fingers. "So, like you were saying," Megs spoke up, paying attention to her goggles rather than the man she was talking to.

The Professor waited, his own clothes weree moist, but they were nowhere near as bad as poor Megen's. His white lab coat clung to his bown seude sut, the green shirt underneath it having only the faintest scattering of drops on it. "Yes?" The Professor asked warmly, waiting for her to finish her statement. Of course she didn't, and immediately went on to being polite. "Nice to meet you Miss Sachiho." She had said most call her Megs, and had not given permission to him to do so, if he assumed that, then he would be very rude.
At the question a cloud of gloom seemd to form over his head, and his cheeks flared up in embarassment.
Bill sighed. It looked like it was up to him. "He was asking if you wanted a change of clothes, and some hot chocolate. Although why you give those tothe moronic human walking around int he rain in the first place..." The Alakazam let the sentence stay unfinished, surely she could fill in the blanks.
As was true for most humans she seemed kind of lost at the moment. "The driers in hte room next to the storage room, be careful not to wake the Venusaur." The Alakazam stated sternly, making sure she understood the no nonsense tione in his voice.
The Professor's smile instantly shined through again. "Let me go find yiou some clothes dear." Pausing for a minute he closely examined the girl, then with a happy whistle he was off, heading towards his bedroom, and only for the Professor was it not creepy to find a closet filled with children and preteen clothes. Many of which had been left by girls who walked around in the rain like this one. Grabbing a long sleeved plain grey shirt, and a pair of drawstring pants he walekd back into the center of the room. All of tis had happened so quick it was nlikely Megs got even a word in edgewise.

"Um, well, thanks." Megs said, accepting the clothes from the professor. She walked towards the drier room, but stopped to look at Bill for a moment. "And I am not a moronic human, thank you." Megs said, then headed off into the room. She closed the door behind her and quickly changed out of the sticky clothes. Her body was a little wet from her clothes, but it dried up fast. Megs grabbed her shoes and laid them next to the machine to dry. She pulled the gray shirt and drawstring pants on, and then dumped her wet clothes into the drier. After a few minutes in the room, she returned to the lab, her hair dripping a few drops of water on the gray shirt.
"And by the way, Professor, I rather you just call me 'Megs'. It makes me feel more comfortable." Megs said, walking up to him. She listened to the rain and hail pound on the building. "The rain should be gone by the time my clothes dry. Maybe I should have stuck with dad's advice and wait till tomorrow. Oh, well. No use in complaining now."
"Now, about that hot chocolate, Professor. I think I'd like to have some, if you don't mind. It may take awhile for my clothes and shoes to dry up. And I am feeling rather parch from the travel here." Megs said, putting her hands by her side.

The Professor acknowledged her gratitude with a brief nod of his head. "It's no problem." The simple "thanks" had made any left over embarassment from earlier disappear. The Professor's smikle was content, if she went and got changed then he'd have no need to worry about her patent's calling and saying it was his fault she had caught a virus, or something like that.
Bill grinned. "Well you are a homo sapien--and compared to myself--you are rather moronic." Most people would hae apologized, or tried to make amends; Bill didn't believe in backing down from a fight just because he was confronted. Besides his insult was sheerly logical. "The fact that you are out during a horrific storm only lends backing to my earlier statement." What evidence did she have to back it up? This blue haired girl had not said one intellectaul thing since she had arrived. So really her only evidence was to whine., and complain about it "Being MEAN!".
As Megs went and changed into some drier clothes the Professor nipped off to the kitchen, wincing as the pokemon in the "dangerous" enclosure began to howl and growl. Even through a cinder block wall they could sense his presence. No doubt they were all crowded round the wall, storms always made them hyper. Ignoring their jeers, and snarls he turned on the instant coffee pot maker, and went to work at the hot cocoa.
Then he heard the door open, and stepped away from the stove. "Megs? Alright then Megs." When she finally stated that she would like some hot cocoa the Professor nodded, and went back to the boiling water, dumping in a packet of instant chocolate. Turning down the heat he stirred the muddy water like concontion. Reaching for the sugar, he paused to ask if she wanted more, shook his head, and dumped about a quarter of it in the pot. "Mayhaps--but company on a rainy day is always nice." Company on anyday was something the Professor valued, but that sounded a tad pitiful.
Bill was now standing in the doorway, cracking various parts of himself, and trying to work out the cramps he received as payment for his work. Upon seeing his friend dump in the sugar he winced. "Well I am not drinking that, I can hear the cavities growing already."
The Professor chuckled, and let the pot sit for a moment, then pulling out two mug like cups he lifted the coffee pot and poured it in. Surprsingly his hands were extremely steady, but the cups kept moving, dirtying the counter. "Oh all those noises...ignore them. Storms make the pokemon outside excited." It had taken him that long to realize that she may not be used to loud sounds like that. "Well your cups on the counter..." Pausing he went back to hte real reason for her visit. "So out of fire, water, and grass which one happens to be your preference?" On a day liek today he hoped she hated fire, the poor hing would be miserable.

Megs took the cup and began drinking the warm liquid slowly. She felt completely relaxed now and her body was filled with the warmness from the drink. "Yum," she said after gulping another drink of the hot chocolate. At the Professor's question, Megs took a pausing moment and went silent. She tried to remember the Pokemon she saw on the starter list that was on the steel door. Her memory was hazy from all the rain and hail that had hit her cranium.
She took another warm sip from the cup and looked at the professor. "I've never really been someone to like a certain type, but I think grass or fire would be a good start for me. Or at least, I think...maybe...hopefully..." Megs wandered off, drinking out of her cup again and thinking hard of the Pokemon she should pick.
After another few gulps, she had finished her hot chocolate. She wiped her mouth with her arm and thanked the professor. By now, she could tell that the hail was gone now. There was no more hard tapping on the roof and that meant only the rain was left. This was a good sign for Megs. The more she thought about the rain, the more she forgot about the Pokemon choices.
"Oh, yeah! What were we talking about? Sorry, I got carried away. Rain caught my attention again. Oh, yes. Now I remember. SO yeah, like I was saying, I think either grass or fire would suit me best."

"I am glad you like it." The tone of voice he spoke it with made it obvious that the smiling comment was also directed as a barb to Bill. The Professor waited through her silence, mechnanically drinking from his cup. At first he fiured he had askedd the wrong question , but the girl at a closer glance only seemed to be contemplateling her question, or sifting through memories. Laying his cup down on the table (where he was sitting) he rose to grab the pot, and poured himself a refill. Feeling moisture on his lips he licked off the beginnings of a sugar mustache.
This was rather nice. The companiable silence, and round of sweet drinks was broken as Megs spoke up. "What about personality--if you're unsure you could leave it to luck." With a chuckle he slammed his palm into his face. Rain always made him overlook things. The hand hid the huge smile on his face, what if she had no idea what they offered to new trainers? "Oh we have, TOrchic, Totodile, Ralsius, Grista, Selibulb and Chikorita. DO you need to learn what any of those are?" He didn't teach anone anything, they listened and learned if they wished to.
At the simple "thanks" the Professor shook his head. A slight smile still curling his lips. "It was my pleasure, no need to thank me." In truth it had given him a way to have company for a while.
The Professor chuckled at the girl's question, realizing it was likely insulting to be laughed at he turned his humorment into a string of obviously fake coughs. "Hmmm..well that leaves Torchic, Grista, Chikorita, and Selibulb." Pausing he decided to add a disclaimer. "If you choose Torchic, or Grista, they will probably be a bit sleepy, andj ust a tad grouchy. The rain bothers them." Just in case she picked a mellow pokemon, and it turned out to be a hyper one, he didn't want to be blamed for the difference later on.

"Oh, then this is no problem, Professor." Megs said, smiling. "Those fire Pokemon won't have to worry a bit. I'll choose a grass type then. And now that I remembered the starter Pokemon, I think I know which one to pick." Megs began to think a little more about the choices again before she gave a straight answer. 'Let's see... I can choose from Chikorita and Seilbub. Both Pokemon are grass-type, I know that for sure. Both are rather cute, have basically the same attacks... oh, this is a hard decision.'
It gave Megs a few seconds to notice what she was really doing. She had totally forgotten about the professor and left him to wait for her answer. "Well, um, yep. I have chosen my starter!" Megs said, unsure of herself. 'Yeah, right,' "And I think it will be..." 'Hurry up, stupid! Anyone will work!' "It will be...um, I guess..." 'Oh, how lovely of me.' There was a big pause after her sentence. She held her breathe and began using the inie-minie-minie-moe method.
'Inie...minie...minie...moe. Catch a tiger by his toe. If he hollers let him go. Inie...minie..minie...mo-ah ha!' "Professor!" Megs said, looking extremely proud and satisfied. "I know what Pokemon I'd like. I choose the starter Pokemon, Chikorita!"

The professor leaned forward on his useless cane, which he had pulled out from behind the chair. Both of his ears eager to hear the girl's decision, . A gnetly, open smile encouraged her to speak her mind. To him it was always entertaining to see what a trainer picked--and at times amazing. More then once they had went off on the only track he had ruled as impossible. Both of those instances were how he had rid gimselves of his marshmellowy, cuddly, big lipped little Smoochums.
And he waited.
And waited for a little bit. There she went--oh nope nevermind.
It was a huge decision though, so rushing her was not a option in any of his codebooks.
Reaching for his cup he jumped when the girl shouted his title. "Oh my--I guess you have huh?" Not a bit of anger or mockery clouded his voice, only friendliness. The cup had only spilled on the table after all, mothing that couldn't be cleaned. "Chikorita?" Standing up he went and grabbed the pokeball with the crescent leaf on the bottom, and then strode back into the kitchen. The paparer twols had somehow found themselves in his hand during the short trip.
Very gently he tossed the pokeball at her. "While your clothes dry why not take a nap, or play with your new friend?" There was no way he was letting a child go back out in this weather. "Oh there's a backpack by the door on the way out, that and its contents are yours as well." The contents part was there for those who removed all the insides of the bag and just took the bag.

Megs caught the pokeball. Inside was her Chikorita. It was a great feeling to be holding a pokeball in her hands. She examined all around it and felt at the button. "Thanks, Professor!" Megs said happily. She took a few longer moments just holding the ball in her palms. Once the professor told her about the backpack, she quickly ran over by the door and picked the back pack up. It was somewhat light and heavy in a way. She tossed it over her shoulder and walked back over to the professor.
"Chikorita...I think I can come up with a better name than that," Megs said, putting the backpack on the floor beside her feet. She tossed the pokeball in the air a couple of times before she then released her Chikorita out of the pokeball. A white light stretched out of the pokeball and formed a small Pokemon on the floor. The light then vanished and a Chikorita appeared before Megs. "Well, aren't you just a cutie," Megs said to the little Pokemon. She bended down on her knees and smiled at it. "First off, let's find out if you're a boy or girl." The Chikorita thought about the question. "Chika," it said, starting to do a little dance. "Does that mean boy or girl?" Megs asked, giggling. The Chikorita did a little flutter and bashed her eyes. "Oh, okay, I get it now. You're a girl Chikorita." "Chika!" she answered, jumping.
"I guess that means I should give you a girl name...hmm," Megs began thinking of possible names that fit a spunky-like Chikorita. "Oh! How about this-what about Daisy?" Chikorita shook her head. "Um, how about... China...?" Chikorita swung her head around. "I don't have a lot of ideas, you know." Megs said plainly. She thought more about names. No good ones came to her mind. Suddenly, she snapped her fingers and looked down at her Chikorita. "I've got it! How about Cheyenne? Will that work?" "Chika, chika!" Chikorita said, running around Megs happily. "Great, then Cheyenne it is." Megs said, standing up.
