[And everything needs to have some dramatic name.] Kurai approached the lab in deep thought. Since he'd left his bed that morning, his mind had been centered around one question, a question he couldn't answer. Try as though he may, he simply couldn't make a decision. The question on his mind was: Do I be normal and knock and wait for a response, or do I do something fun and stupid?
Kurai was never ever one to be normal without thinking twice. He didn't think being normal was fun. He found it absolutely boring. Kurai suffered from ADHD, so when things are boring, he doesn't like them at all, and often loses focus. Naturally, he usually does things that entertain him, which unfortunately annoy other people. A lot.
But now Kurai had to think very hard about his next action. The people inside the lab were the ones who would give him a Pokémon. If he decided to just have fun, would he still give it to him? Maybe not. So perhaps Kurai should act normal and respectable. That way they wouldn't all just see him as some crazy idiot.
But on the other hand, Kurai didn't want to come off as something he's not. If there was one thing he hated, it was acting different to get other people to like or accept him. So why would he do it now?
But he needed this Pokémon. Would he need to be something he's not just to get a Pokémon? Could he reach some sort of in-between? Would he have to go home now? Kurai became frustrated with his inability to decide, and thus took out his frustration by pounding on the door, not realizing that the people inside would take this as knocking on the door until after he'd already done it.

The door shook as the boy slammed his fist into it. Both pairs of eyes in the room flickered up. Bill's snout turning into a smirk, the Professor clapping his hands together silently. He was glad for some company, Bill had been sour after Hope had left. It wasn't that he missed the teenage girl but was disappointed that she had turned a new leaf, and was rather polite for the last ten minutes of their encounter. Now he had another chance, and by the volume of the knock this fellow wouldn't be so polite eiter.
With a wave of his hand Bill turned the crescent shaped doorknob, turning the door inward. From the handle glittery blue pwoder(represent his psychic abilities) dripped from the handle in a steady stream. Then as soon as the door hit its bumper on the wall the dust disappeared. Then was seen on Bills fingers and then blinked completely out of eyesight. The Alakazam turned his yes towards the door, speaking in the emotionless tone he almost always used. "Look boy, we are not deaf, so you do not need to knock so loud. If it was not anatomically impossible I would say you could have raised the dead." Te Alakazam was in a talkative mood, which likely meant he was also in a sour one.
Sour was an understatement.
The Professor decided to save the mood of the room, and with a smile pushed himself to his feet. Being careful not to trip over the chair as he made his way to Kurai. His cheerful grin was already parted, allowing joyful words of welcome to spill out. "Welcome to the lab boy--it was nice of you to adjust the voulume for our old ears." Not that 54 was that old or anything. The Professor didn't think the boy was trying to be rude. Then again he also hadn't thought that the girl threatening to burn down the lab meant any harm.
Gesturing to the door the Professor quickly added. "Close that behind you alright lad?" Then he slowly weaved his way to the center of the room. The three pillars cast their elongated shadows on the floor, turning the center floor of the room into one dark shadowy mass. The lights above worked hard to keep it from spreading farther.

Kurai jumped back when Bill spoke to him. He'd never heard a Pokémon speak english, and was shocked to learn that they even could. Bill's somewhat hostile tone certainly didn't help convince Kurai that there was no reason to be afraid. Kurai tried not to show any visible signs of his fear, but he couldn't help shaking a bit.
"I-I'm sorry!" Kurai quickly said. "I didn't mean to be so loud! I-I just...I'm sorry..." Kurai's words trailed off as he became unable to think of anything else. He'd already made himself look bad enough. It was better to let someone think you're stupid than to open your mouth and prove them right.
Kurai hesitantly stepped inside the lab and, heeding the professor's words, shut the door behind him. From there, Kurai said and did nothing. He decided it would be best for him to just wait until he's told what to do.

The Alakazam watched throough hooded eyes as the boy began shaking. Nervous? Well that was one way of showing he knew who was right in this situation. Then the human child opened his mouth and let spill out a trail of incomprehensible words, centered around an apology. Bill liked groveling, but not those who groveled. COldness tinged his voice as he spoke: "It's fine--as long as you know who's right in this cirmcumstance." WHich of course was him. Without another glance at the boy the Alakazam picked up a thick book from his desktop, and quickly began to read.
The Professor winceed as the lad stuttered oout an apology, waving his hand in dismissal the Professor spoke again, the warmness tinging his words easily outdoing the coldness of Bill's. "Don't worry about it--and pay no heed to Bill-- he's just a little grouchy today.." Today!? More like the other 364 days of the year , with the addition of today, yesterday, and tomorrow.
The boy hustled inside, looking rather confused about what to do. Pursing his smiling lips the Professor decided to break the atmosphere of tension. "I am Professor James mahoghany--but please, just James." It was to much of a hassle to say it all everytime he said his own nmae, and he wouldn't force anyone else to do so all the time. "Now don't be shy--I don't bite, and Bill's narrow snout maes it hard to bite very hard." At the end of this statement he added a giggle, just to make sure the lad knew he was joking. A lot of trainers never laughed at his jokes, and figred that being as old as he was the statements were serious, and something to be heeded. It was rather annoying sometimes. "So what is your favorite type of pokemon?" By the way Bill had easily broken the lad/scared him he figured the three pillars would have to do for him.

Kurai calmed down a bit, but still couldn't help but feel a little nervous while Bill was there. He figured that since he'd already made a bad first impression, the best thing he could do was try to be on the best behaviour he could.
As the professor explained Bill's somewhat unpleasant tone, Kurai couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed. He'd aleady made a bad image for himself. Getting so scared over nothing certainly wouldn't help. "Ah...uh...right." he managed to say. "Sorry."
Kurai guessed he probably would've laughed at the joke if he'd known Bill any better. Although he didn't know Bill better, so he didn't laugh. "It's nice to meet you, Professor Mahogany." he said. He didn't really care that the professor said he preferred to be called by his first name. He always tried to respect those superior to him in any way. "My name is Kurai Oscuro. My favorite type of Pokémon...I guess I'd have to say that it's fire, since more of my favorite Pokémon are fire types than any other type." Which was true. Though he only had two, maybe three favorite Pokémon that were fire types, he didn't have many favorite Pokémon to begin with. "I guess you could say one of my favorite types could be Dark...though that's only because of one of my favorite Pokémon which I'm not sure even exists." Kurai decided not to add that his full name literally meant Dark Shadow.
He also truly hoped that the professor wouldn't ask what the favorite Pokémon was. He was often made fun of for liking a Pokémon that apparantly only exists in myths and legends.

"As I said--it's no problem. Nothing to apologize for." The Professor stated with a smile. It seemed that when he talked about the boy's mistake, and how they were not minded in the slightest the lad only became more nervous. No doubt it was Bill's wandering gaze, and the fact that the Alakazam's eyes narrowed everytime he looked at Kurai.
The Professor sighed quietly. If the boy insisted on calling him by his full title then that was perfectly alright, of course it did get annoying. "Likewise." The boy liked fire types hmm? So that narrowed it down to the two flame pwoered starters. Realizing the boy might not have seen the list he decided to explain--it seemed he didn't know much about pokemon. After all Bill speaking HAD shocked him. "So that leaves you with a choice between Grista, and Torchic. Our own flying canid, and the flaming chicken of the Hoenn region." At the next statement the Professor raised a inquiring eyebrow, his gently smiling face, and attentive eyes inviting mroe comments. Leaning forward on his cane he turned around, he was nwo standing behind the fire pillar. "A legedary--which one?" What legendary could he admire? Or was it one of the ancient pokemon he was speaking of? Either way he had piqued the Professor's iinterest.

As soon as the professor mentioned Torchic, Kurai responded without a moment's hesitation. "Torchic. Definetaly." Kurai's favorite Pokémon of all was undoubtedly Blaziken, so he would obviously want to take Torchic.
Kurai was a bit disheartened when the professor asked what Pokémon he was talking about. "The Pokémon..." he said hesitantly. "...is Darkrai. It's just...it has such power...power through nightmares...power that I can't help but think about a lot...so much power being used to cause suffering..."
Kurai realized he was getting a bit carried away, but once he'd started thinking about Darkrai's power, he couldn't stop so easily.

The Professor nodded, and grabbed the ball resting atop the pillar. On the bottom was a sticker. This one happened to be his sign for Torchic, a three clawed birds footprint, colored in orange, with yellow smoke around it. Dropoping his cane to the floor the Professor then picked up a orange backpack, laying it oj the edge of the pillar he held it up with his waist, quickly unzipping it and stuffing the Pokeball inside. Then with slow delibrate steps he walked towards Kurai, it was so sad to see company leave. Holding it out strap first he waited for the boy to take it. "Here you are--" He said with a smile.
At the answer to the question the Professor raised his inquisting eyebrow even higher. "Darkrai--but you like power used for suff--" Pretending to glance at the clock the Professor waved his hand. "My I have been keeping you for too long. You better get going if you want to reach vhenkil by dark." it was unwise to be cintinue. Now he was just being nosy again. The door swung open, and a pressure seemed to build in the room, almost seeming to want to kick Kurai out now. The source of which was obviously Bill. The Professor didn't want to be rude, but his statement might have made the boy worried. Before Kurai left he added in his own opinion. "I like Jirachi, and Rayquza myself." Although he had to wonder why the boy was reluctant to speak of it. But asking that would be nosy as well.

Kurai could partially tell that the professor was a bit reluctant to let him go, probably because visitors make the every day routine less boring. At first he wanted to say something to lighten the mood there, but he couldn't think of anything.
As soon as the professor broke off mid-sentence, Kurai knew what he was thinking, and that he'd told the professor too much. He tried not to be too odd while leaving, and said "Rayquaza is an interesting Pokémon as well. To soar through the skies as much as you want...it must be fun."
He made his way to the door, but stopped in the doorway for a moment. He wanted to explain something. Without turning around, he said "Power that causes suffering...to have such power does not mean to use it. If I could control this power, then I could make it so it's never used. That is why it's so compelling to me. If I could prevent suffering...everything would be better..." He didn't say anymore. He left the lab and closed the door behind him.
