The sun shone warm and bright today. Pidgey were calling to each other cheerily in the tree tops as Ratatta chased each other playfully around the bases. A flock of Spearow, led by a Fearow, flew lazily overhead, squaking and screeching. It was a beautiful day altogether, thrown into sharp contrast by the grumpy figure slowly trudging towards the Pokemon Lab.
A little black rain cloud seemed to follow Skull Aneal wherever she went. Ratatta took one look and fled at the sight of her. Small earthquakes seem to shake the ground whenever the goth girl's huge black and purple boots slammed against the ground. Unsupressed rage radiated from her in great waves. It didn't take a genius to tell Skull was angry. But then again, isn't she always angry?
"This bites." Skull snarled loudly to no one in particular. A grazing Tauros looked up from behind his fence and blinked slowly at Skull with glassy amber eyes. Most people would have been moved to pet the corse, curly fur of the Tauros's mane. But Skull, being much unlike most people, only glared at the large Pokemon. "What the hell are you starin' at?!" she snapped. Tauros snorted and galloped away.
Grumbling agitatedly, Skull approached the large, shiny steel doors that enclosed the Pokemon Lab where she would recieve her first Pokemon. It was here that Skull paused, not with nervousness or overwhelming anticipation, but to briefly ask herself again if she was really about to go out on a Pokemon journey. Sure she didn't have to go to school, but being a Pokemon trainer would mean spending days lost in forests, sleeping on the ground with naught but a sleeping back and a Pokemon, and battling hordes of other trainers who actually gave a darn about this whole 'Pokemon Quest' thing.
But now that her mother had literally booted her out of the house, Skull would either have to become a Pokemon Trainer or a hobo. The latter made her hungry, so Skull would have to become a Pokemon Trainer. With one last audible sigh, Skull completely disregarded the 'please knock' sign and kicked the doors open with a BANG. Her dark auburn eyes scanned the lab skeptically. "Alright, I'm here!" Were the words shouted before anyone could respond to her...Noticable entrance. "Gimme a Pokemon before I change my mind and set this hell-hole on fire!"
(Wow that was long. XD)

The Door smacked agaisnt the wall, the shout of the girl reverberating around the lab.
The surprise of the exploding door had left the Professor on the floor, a pile of papers in his lap, and a perplexed look on his face. The fall from his armless desk chair had left his thin wire rimmed glasses crooked on his nose. His spilled cup of coffee rolled off the desk, smacking into his kneecap. At the moment he didn't look like one of the most revered scientists in the field of fast food--much less Pokemon and DNA. Both of his friendly colored eyes swiveled to the door, his face still a mask of confusion. "Wha--"
Bill on the other hand had a much different reaction. The girl's shadow had filtered in through the windows, andh e had known she wass there. When the door swung backwardds inside he did not lose his dignity, no, he merely just stared at the young human fmale, his snout pursed with annoyance. Then she opened her mouth and yelled. That was it, the poor Professor was dazed, and more then a little worried about the ocmmotion. "Look girl the door said knock, not kick, or punch. Also! No one comes into my lba and starts shouting out thug like threats." Before the Professor could say anything Bill clicked his fingers, and yaned upwards, his psychic powers concentrated solely on pulling Skull into the air.
Then he twitched his first of three fingers, which wouldl ikely send her upside down. Then without losing his train of tought the Alakazam walked up to the girl. A smirk curled up on his snout;oh how long had he wanted to show a trainer like this one some humbleness? Directing his coal black gaze the Alakazam spoke slowly, and montonously as if he was mocking her intellect; which he was. "From this position you will not be sitting anything on fire. Also from this position i could break your skull, on the floor, or bookshelf. Wherever. Do not make threats you do not intend to uphold, because even idle ones piss me off." This little brat was nothing to truly worry about, but she had threatened him.
The Professor was now back in his mind, both of his eyes focused on the now floating Skull. With a creak he pushed himself from the floor, sending the coffee mug falling, where it hit the tiles with a loud clatter. "Look miss, Bill is right--threatening is crime enough to land you in jail. So please apologize--and maybe we can get over tis little Mix up?" A smile stretched across his features, the girl had just been a little to eager for her own good. Enough to ake him worry about giving her anything to strong.
Bill on the other hand snorted and furiously shook his head. "Not this time James. You do not walk into osmeone's house and threaten to burn it down just because you crave attention, and are too impatient to wait for it." The cold set of his eyes, and the twithcing of his bklue flame covered hands made it obvious thath e wanted to teach the girl a lesson, a much more potent one then this anyway.

Skull opened her mouth for a stinging retort, but it was cut off into a yelp of surprise as she was lurched into the air. The world seem to turn upside-down-Or what it her who was upside-down? Whatever the case, Skull was dismayed to find herself dangling above a very angry Alakazam. She felt her face burn with embarressment and rage at being scolded like some eager child. But not even the bad-tempered fourteen-year-old could deny she deserved it.
"Alright alright, I'm sorry! Geez," Skull shouted hastily, waving her arms about. "I just want to ge this over with, okay? Sorry..." The pale teenager coughed uncomfortably. Blood was rushing to her head and the pressure in her skull made it hard to think straight. Who would have expected to be met by an Alakazam upon bursting into the lab?
Crossing her arms over her chest in an attempt to look more dignified, suspended upside-down as she was, Skull surveyed the two below her and assessed her situation. The Alakazam was definately the one deserving of the most respect between the two; Bill seemed to have a short temper for crazies like Skull. But the Professor was likely the one to be issuing Skull her first Pokemon. With a pang of regret sharp as a Weavile's claw, Skull relized she'd probably ruined any chance of getting any Pokemon worth having.
No doubt they'll stick me with something worthless, like a Bellsprout or a Clampearl. Skull sighed inwardly. But she tried not to let her dissapointment show, and instead adopted an apologetic face. It was something she didn't do too often. If I've got no choice but to go out on this dumb journey, I might as well take a good Pokemon with me. "Look," The pasty girl's voice was pleading as she adressed the two-Mostly Bill. "I'm really sorry for bursting in like that. I've put off become a trainer for four years, and I guess I just really want to get started." Perhaps there was some truth in her words, though she hated the thought of being out in the sunlight for so long without her video games.
"You can uh...Let me down now...Please?" It wasn't often the word 'Please' passed Skull's lips. Let's hope Bill and the Professor took it seriously.

The Alakazam ingored her calls of apology. Strolling back to his desk he sat down, and picked up a pen, scribbling random words on a piece of paper. Maybe by the time he had wrote down all the words in the A part of the dictionary, with their definitions he would think about letting her down. The Alakazam wasn't there to be friendly, he was there as James's bodyguard. Hearing the girl cough his smirk grew, a few more minutes would do it, after all he didn't want her to vomit; he'd be the one cleaning it up. "Geez means I was exaggerating--and I wasn't." He also didn't like the tone or word choice, to him it was sheer insolence.
James on the other hand was nwo brushing himself off. "Coem now Bill--she said she was sorry." The Professor didn't like this newcomer much either, but she likely had a good reason for acting like she did. It wasn't like her natural inclination was to be rude. The Alakazam just went on scribbling, although by the way his ears were pricked forward it was obvioush e was listening to the girls begging for help. "Bill..." It wasn't as if he could command him, after all Bill was his own entity, and it was up to him what he wanted to do. With a sigh the Professor began to walk toward Skull only to be interrupted by the girl's next statment. "See she was just a little oveeager--she was joking about torching the place--BILL." The Alakazam sighed, andp laced his pen down on the piece of paper. "James. That was nothing to joke about--and when I get excited I do not make threats--or idle ones." The Professor realized that he was digging the girl a bigger hole and stopped talking. Now he stood awkwardly in the center of the room, waiting for Bill to do the rigt thing.
Which could take a while.
The Alakazam watched as the girl tried to make herself look more dignified, it was rather humorous.
The girl opened her mouth to plead again. This time she said the magic word; that being "please.". With a clutch of his handd(the gestures are mostly for show) the sparkles of mind energy holding the girl up disappeared. Likely sending her tumbling in a undignified heap on the ground. "Regardless of if you were sincere or not--James wouldn't stand for me not letting you down after your pathetic begging." Frankly begging had been what he had been after. Waving his hand he gestures to James. "You're all his--"
The Professor rushed over to the girl's side and offered a hand to help her up; as good manners dictated. "Well forgetting all previous comments dear--welcoem to the Lab. I am Professor James Mahoghany--more commonly known as James." Seeing as he had cmmited all her previous comments to mind he nodded. "So you're here for ap okemon- what happens to be your favorite types? Minus fire of course." Well after the threat of arson he really couldn't hand her a fire pokemon and feel good about it, quite the opposite in fact. This girl needed something with a strong will, smething that would teach her as much as she tried to teach it.

Skull watched the Alakazam helplessly, feeling a dark pit of dread opening in her belly with every moment she was left dangling. Had it been anything else she would have fought and screamed bloody murder. But an Alakazam was a dangerously powerful Pokemon, and an angry one was even more dangerous. She daren't not say another word, and instead waited politely to be let down. When she was dropped suddenly, Skull landed painfully on her shoulder with a grunt.
Accepting the helpful hand of the professor, Skull pulled herself to her feet and dusted herself off, rubbing her shoulder to soothe the pain. She nodded her head respectfully as James introduced himself. For once, she realized that being nasty would not get her what she wanted. Now was the time to learn some manners. "Well met, Professor. I'm Sk-Hope. Hope Aneal." Skull whinced slightly at calling herself the given name she despised so greatly, but a name like 'Skull' wasn't the sort of impression she wanted to leave on these two powerful individuals.
Jame's question about Pokemon's types startled and confused Skull a bit. She wished she'd done a little more reserch before coming here-Or perhaps not stayed locked up in a dark basement for ten years. She shuffled her feet uncertainly. "Well..." The greasy-haired teen racked her brain for any of the types she'd heard her brothers prattling on about. "I do like fire, yes, but I don't suppose I'll be getting one of those." Skull's eyes flashed mischieviously for a moment, then turned thoughtful once more.
"I definately like darkness...And dragons! I like dragons a lot." Skull's voice suddenly grew more excited. She pictured the huge dragon Pokemon her older brothers had shown her. Images of Flygon and Dragonite filled her vision as she stared wistfully into the distance. Reality set back in after a moment and she seemed to droop slightly. "But I don't suppose you'd have a spare Rayquaza lying around, would you now?" Not like you'd give it to me if you did. She added scornfully to herself.

The Alakazam smirked as the girl hit the goround, the attack had two lessons, the lifting being one, and the usually hard landing being the other.
The professor braced himself and then pulled, helping Hope to her feet. Realizing he looked rather silly holding her hand he dropped the clutched hand to his side, and with a chuckle fixed his glasses back on the bridge of his nose. In no way did he need them, the glasses were just to make him look more like a sophisticated scientist, which was the same purpose as the hickory cane leaning against the wall. The professor's smile turned into a frown of concern as the girl rubbed at her shollder. "Are you alright?" Whether she had just threatened to burn his home down or not he was still worried. She was a kid in pain and te professor hated to see anything in pain, but especially children. Yet the girl then jumped into a introduction. So the Professor let the question drop unaswered. "Thank you Hope." Of course he was perplexed as to why she had dropped her statement, but not wanting to be rude he paid it no mind.
As soon as Hope had finished her next statement Bill burst in with one of his own. "I do say--you guessed right." The Professor blushed, making it obvuious that he had been about to contradict his earlier statement saying she could NOT have a fire type. Bill had foreseen his firned's naivety when it came to people's nature. He didn't understand that just because she was being polite didn't make her less rude, or angry. She was likely just a good actor.
This time the Professor anticipated Bill's repl and waved his hands. Turning around he began walking towards the storage room. A very unlike-james expression on his face. A smirk. "I have three things that might do it for you--one you'd be the first to ever see. They just came in today." One evolved into a dragon, anothr started out a dragon, and the third just seemed to be a personailty match. "Unless you'd like one of the ones off the list?" Hopeully she didn't, for if she did that would mean that her journey would be no challenge at all, with an attitude like that they would cow to her wishes, minus a few of the more independent ones. Walking into the storeoom he quietly stepped over his dozing Bulbasaur, who let out a quiet groan as he did so.
Nodding he grabbed a wooden box from the shelf, the packing tape still around the edges. On top of this he set two pokeballs. Walking out into the center room he quickly listed off the pokemon. "Well you can either have the Trapinch, Cupie, or Trapinch. If not one of those then one of the four that are not fire types over there." With his head he gestured towards the general area of the pokemon pillars. "Which would be Selibulb, Totodile, Ralsius, or Chikorita."

Skull decided it would be in her best intrest to ignore Bill's sarcastic remarks. Getting angry with him again would not help her situation. Besides, she wasn't too put off that they wouldn't give her a fire Pokemon to back up her rather frequent threats to torch people and buildings. There would be plenty of oportunities to catch a fire Pokemon of her own.
For the moment, the bad-tempered teenager pushed her pyro-manic thoughts from her mind and studied the presented Pokemon very carefully. Totadile seemed like he may be a good choice, but the jumpy Pokemon was far too hyper for Skull's liking, so she moved on. Chikorita, Selibulb and Ralsius simply didn't pique Skull's intrest at all, so she moved on to the rarer Pokemon James had mentioned.
Cupie held Skull's attention for a long while. Though it was pink and cute, two characteristics that Skull abhored above all other things, it was a dragon. She could imagine it evolving into some huge pink dragon that breathed fire and destroyed everything in its path. But looking at this small, heart-meltingly adorable creature Skull knew that wouldn't be the case. a Cupie would be a difficult Pokemon to mold into a powerful fighter before evolution. So Skull hesitantly moved on.
Skull skimmed over the other Pokemon without a second glance. She lingered on Machop for a moment, but finally came to the last Pokemon: Trapinch. The Trapinch gazed up at her with its beady little eyes and snapped its jaws menacingly. Blinking slowly, Skull recalled what her father, who owned a Flygon, had told her: though it didn't look like much, after much hard training Trapinch evolved into a great dragon.
Reaching out carefully, the goth girl reached out and laid a hand on the head of the Trapinch, ready to pull away if it tried to bite her. Luckily, it didn't. Skull let herself be swept away by her imagination again. One day, she could be the proud trainer of a noble Flygon! She could almost see herself sitting atop the powerful creature, flying at top speeds towards the Pokemon league. For once, the prospect of becoming a trainer seemed appealing to Skull.
"I'll have this one." Skull said descisivly, turning again to the Professor. Her hand slipped off the head of the Pokemon and clenched at her side. She was eager to start her quest after putting it off for so long. "Trapinch will be the partner I take with me."
