It was a dark day four months ago in Soul Society when three of their very own captains were revealed to be traitors. That remarkable treasure known as the Hogyoku was taken away as Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tousen retreated into Hueco Mundo. And, while the members of the Gotei 13 and the Omnitsukidou watched Soul Society slowly fall, they were completely oblivious to a greater work at hand. It would be more threatening than the power of Aizen and his arrancar. But this new threat rising on the horizon wasn’t one whom wielded physical power that could topple the vast forces of the Gotei 13; yet it still claimed the ability to rip the protection squads apart through other methods.
“Any and all humans that interfere with shinigami work; fighting hollows, interacting with spirits, or any other methods of interference are to be stopped by any means necessary. These include violence and execution if refusal to abide by Soul Society standards continues. Any shinigami that spurn or reject these standards will be given a single warning. From that point, they will be stripped of their rank and imprisoned indefinitely. Further insubordination will result in immediate execution.”
Within the months that had passed since the betrayal of the three captain-rank shinigami and the discovered deaths of the Central 46, a new Central 46 was formed. Rumored to have been handed picked by the Soul King and Zero Division themselves. A radical decision within this new Central 46 has led to inner turmoil within the ranks of Soul Society. Worse, fights have broken out between shinigami that accept the rule and those that deny it. A fairly small group of rebel shinigami have defected from Soul Society and, with the help of gigai, have formed lives amongst the humans of Karakura. Their goal? For now, the only thing in mind was to survive, as they had made themselves the enemies of Soul Society, and under new laws, they face execution.
Working behind the scenes guiding the Central 46’s orders are the Zero Division, in truth, the King has always had a hand in the decisions made by the Central 46, though they weren't directly his. A separate faction existed that acted as the sole medium between the King and the Central 46, a group of four elders who each represented the Four Noble Clans of the Soul Society (because the Shiba clan was stripped of their nobility, they have no representative in this anymore). Each of these elders have the age, strength, and experience to match, if not overpower Yamamoto-Genryuusai Sotaichou in combat, and their status makes them important contributors to Soul Society's economy and internal politics away from the dealings of Shinigami. This group acted as advisors to the King and gave orders, along with advice, to the Central 46, swaying the workings of the Shinigami in their direction as to keep the powers in check, thus allowing their individual clans to thrive and prosper, while the majority of Soul Society remained underdeveloped and in poverty, content and oblivious. It was the perfect set-up, especially since the normal inhabitants of Soul Society, those without the powers of nobility or being Shinigami, could sparsely do anything about it. Their unseen work brought these elders to label themselves as the Zero Division, a troupe of powerful Shinigami who would never officially exist yet would quite possibly wield the greatest power within Soul Society.
But then something came along that even their cunning, wise minds could not foresee: the uprising of humans, the very same ones who have been declared to be stopped by any means necessary if they interfered with shinigami activity where rising up stating “The World is for the Living”. For too long have the humans with power been suppressed by the shinigami, only to be preyed on by the hollows. The Quincy were the first, and they were eradicated, simply for trying to help the world. Simply for trying to help their world. They were not the only ones, though. Every so often a human with spirit powers was born, and just as often, a Shinigami would clash with them, destroying them utterly. They treated these people with contempt, with disgust, simply for having the power to protect what they loved from the hollows. And the ones who did not die were injured, nothing but prey for those hollows…
But some of these humans stayed quiet and stopped themselves from helping those who they saw in danger. They learned to master their powers in secret. And an even fewer number of these men and women met each other, gathering together to form a promise – justice. The right to protect the places that they lived themselves, without the Shinigami interfering. It became a dream they held, and it was passed down through generations, to the children who inherited their powers. Peaceful discussion had been the plan, back then. The elder generations never got their chance to meet Shinigami, for their care and caution worked against their dream, their nature to hide overwhelming their desire to meet a Shinigami. But now, in this day, one of the descendants has abandoned that ideal, and now wishes to turn the power of the small group towards vengeance, destruction…death to every Shinigami they can find.
However, with war on the horizon after Aizen’s departure, along with his underlings Ichimaru Gin and Kaname Tousen, can Yamamoto and those of Soul Society assume control of the corrupt Central 46 and the splitting Gotei 13? With the war pending, will Zero Division rise once again to make even more problems for Soul Society? Will they finally make their stance, said to be more powerful than the Espada themselves? What are they concocting? What are their plans for Soul Society? And what of these humans, who have declared war against Shinigami? What will they do? What do they intend? It’s up to you to find out!
