Well, today was the day. The day she turned sixteen, and the day she was going to finally leave Barkwish town. Maybe not for good. She'd most likely return from time to time to visit the place that took her in for two years of her life. Although she had to admit, the lumpy cot at the Pokemon Center wouldn't exactly be missed, as grateful as she had been.
She stopped in front of the steel door, and her two best friends stood on either side of her. On her left, was a Charmander named Brute. His little arms were crossed in an attempt to try and look intimidating. On her right, was a Growlithe named Ace. He was sitting, chest puffed out as he tried to look more impressive than Brute was trying to be.
"Time to say g'bye to the Professor, guys." she said to them without looking down. She saw them nod from the corner of her eyes. This seemed like the final step. Once she said adieu to the Professor, that was it. She couldn't stay in safe little Barkwish town after that. Not that she really wanted to stay. She'd been looking forward to this day for a long, long time.
She raised a fist and knocked three times, leaving a pause between each loud retort.

At the loud knocks, the individauls inside looked up from their desks, they really had not been expecting visitors today. Of course it wasn't like they ever were, they just came. The Professor pushed himself away from his desk, picked up his cane and began walking towards the door. The pen he had been filling out "new trainer" forms with still clutched in his right hand. Nearing the door he reached out to turn the handle, just to have it open, and bang quietly against the wall nearest Bill's desk. In a way it was like the gag where you pretended to give someone a helping hand, and then pulled it away.
Blinking in the warm sunlight the Professsor was eventaully able to make out a figure on his doorstep. Two pokemon were at her side. With a giant grin he beckoned for her to come in. Adding the order verbally, more then a hint of joy behind his words. "COme on in Skie dear. Your little friends as well." What was this about? No teenager ever came to just see him, unless they wanted a pokemon, or wanted to see out back. Yet here was one of the natives of Barkwish, knocking on his door, two pokemon already in tow.
Behind his desk Bill looked up. Realizing it was no one new or interesting he grunted a "hello" and went back to stariing at the cup of cold coffee on his desk. Of coursse he did have more work to do, but this girl would start up a racket, and he'd have no time to think, much less fill out mundane paperwork. Slowly bringing his gaze up he watched the girl through hooded eyes. Nowh e was just waiting for a breech in protocol, maybe she would do soemthing interesting instead of annoying. Then again. this human has aways been to happy for my taste, it's like having two of James in the labratory.

The door opened up and the smiling Professor appeared in the doorway. Skie grinned cheerfully, "Hello, Professor!" she chirped, eyes sparkling.
Beside her, Brute and Ace gave the Professor a small nod of respect, before they glared at each other with silent accusitions in their eyes of the other Pokemon being a complete and total loser of a copy cat.
Skie 'ahemed' loudly, and the two Pokemon cut off the growling contest that had already started up. They scuffed the ground with their paws and feet sheepishly. Skie followed the Professor inside the lab, enjoying its tidy atmosphere, the Charmander and Growlithe following her inside.
"I just came to say goodbye, sir. It's my sixteenth birthday today, and that's the day my dad told me I could finally go off my my little Poke-Journey thing." She noticed Bill from the corner of her eye and smiled at him, "Hullo, Bill," she greeted.

"Well hello again dear--and it's James" Professor, it was much to sophisticated. Besides it intimidated most children who came to the lab, it was much less daunting to talk to a nice man called "James", then one who decided your entire future named "Professor Mahoghany." At least that was how he thought about it. "Oh close the door behind you please." Walking into the middle of his lab he sat down on the edge of his desk, laying his cane along its edge. She had likely seen him walk perfectly straight without the hunk of wood, so there was no need to lug it around with Skie.
Inclining his head slightly the Professor acknowledged the two pokemon. Chuckling as they began to challenge one another. So much like Belair and Bill when they were that age. Which was a odd four decades ago. They pretended to hate eachother, but they did keep eachothers egos in check.
The Professor blinked. "Really is it? You sould have called--I would have made a cake." Well Bill would have made the cake, seeing as james was very clumsy and rather useless in the kitchen. The tone of his voice was now slightly disappointed, but it soon perked up. Well here was another oppurtunity to help soem trainer get started on their ourney. Even if it was one of his favorites. "So do you need anything else?" A pokedex? A map? A phone? Anything like that was what he meant. No doubt her father had already supplied money. "OH --HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Both of his cheeks flared up red, how rude was that!? Nto saying it earlier.
At his desk Bill grunted. "Hullo to you. Yes-Birthday--uh-huh." The alakazam was listening to the conversation, and felt odd. This bouncy girl was likely going to be chewed up and spit out by the real world beyond friendly little Barkwish.

Skie nodded and closed the door behind her as she entered the lab, the little Charmander and Growlithe close behind. She grinned at the Professor's, sorry, James', would-have-been cake offer and shrugged. "It's all right," she said, "Brute and Ace here got me a giant candy bar." She grinned down at her two partners.
<Yeah, and you ate it in like, five seconds,> Brute snorted, flicking his flame-tipped tail, <And you didn't even save us any.>
<Quit whining. It's her birthday,> Ace growled at the Charmander, recieving a glare instead of an answer.
Upon his loud 'Happy Birthday' roar, she jumped, surprised. Laughing, she grinned again, "Thanks. And...I think a Pokedex'd be cool. I just need some useful stuff...I'm kinda empty handed," her never faltering grin widened.
"And, if it's not too much to ask," she started, her smile weakening just a bit, "Some extra money...?" she finished a tad guiltily.
Wow, did she hate that. Asking for money just sounded so dang low. "I already have a bit, but...you never know, you know?" Curse it. Why had see spent most of her savings on ice cream, candy, and other useless sweets? Gah...

"Chocolate bar?" James enjoyed chocolate, Bill on the other hand despised any and all sweets. Except for mints, seeing as they had a benefit besides extra trips to the orthodontist. "Chocolate was always nice, especially dark chocolate." At his desk Bill scrunched his muzzle in disgust. Disgusting, chocolate has veyr little nutritional value, at least those that say so in my opinion are addicts. The Professor ignroedh im, and with a chuckle ran into the center of the room.
<I am surprised she is not heavily obese with all the sweets she eats.> Bill stated, mostly to Ace and Brute. Their "trainer" had to have a really high metabolism, or excercise a lot to work all of those calories off. Although judging by her movements she likely was still rather slim due to her manner of talking alone. No doubt the smiling used up quite a few calories as well. <Although--why you bought her wsoething she would eat..> Bill stopped midsentence, and allowed the much younger pokemon to complete his sentence for him.
The Professor nodded, and walked slowly over to his desk, then with a flick of his wrist sent the desk drawer on the far right open. nside was a slim red pokedex, the center of the dial was a dim black instead of the normal green. It was a difference in shielding nothing more. But it made it harder to lose. "Well a pokedex, and a map." Reaching into the desk he pulled out a little palm pilot and a scroll of paper. One was for modification, and the tradiotnal; the other for the technogically inclined. The Pokedex was solar powered, so the battery packs at the bottom of the drawer were more then a year or so out of date.
The Professor chuckled. "This is for staples, food and such, not for candy mind you." Reaching back into the drawer he pulled out one bill of 1000 about 10 denomations of 100s, and a multitude of smaller bills making for a grand total of : 3,010.
"I normally give 5000 , but since you have two pokemon already I just decided to make it a bit more even." The Professor chuckled: "Well being a trainer is rather costly."

The Charmander growled warningly at Bill, ignoring the fact that the Alakazam could probobly knock him out with a flick of his finger.
Ace, however, had quite a bit more sense, and kicked Brute in the side, cutting the growl short. <She just likes chocolate. And yes, she has an...> he thought for the right descriptive word, <over-active matabolism. Sweets make her happy,> he stated simply.
Her guilty face lit up instantly as he handed her the map and Pokedex. "Whaaow!" she cheered, looking her new gadget over. She always thought these things were the coolest things ever, and she always envied the trainers who came into her Pokemon Center home, Pokedexes on their belts, as if they were showing them off. And now she had one all her own! "Yes!" she cheered.
"Thank you," she said gratefully, smiling up at the Professor with sparkling eyes. Upon being handed the money she laughed sheepishly at his 'no candy' comment, rubbing the back of her neck. "Yes, sir," she said, "Thank you." She stuffed the bills in her deep jeans pocket. "Yeah, the costly thing is what I'm dreading. I'm horrible with saving money," she gave a mock sigh of disgust at herself.

Bill's eyes widened, as he looked at the Charmander. Almost as if asking: 'Yes I said something mean, what are YOU going to do about it?". Which it turned out was nothing but growl, and blow off some hot air.
Not that the high leveled Alakazam expected anything else. <The cocholate bars we eat are formulated to do just that. As is most candy. Not to mention it usually has addictive ingredients.> Pausing he lsitened to the rest of the statement. <SHe obviously has a overactive metabolism--as shown by the fact that she isn't morbidly obese.> The fat and the addictiveness were just afew of the reasons Bill disliked Candy. Another was the fact that sweet things were not in his palette of foods he enjoyed.
The Professor blinked, and took a step bac. "Are you arlight Skie dear?--or do you need to sit down?" He had never seen anyone so excited voer a pokedex before. Sure they were nice, but most didn't find them super amazing. Never had a teenager screaed out "YES!" unless they had obtained their dream pokemon.
Even the Alakazam was a little disturbed. The girl needed to lay off the solidified adrenaline, commonly called Sugar.
Assured that she was alright the Professor nodded, and clapped her gently on the shoulder. "It's no problem. It is my job after all--to prepae you and all that." Really the worst part was saying goodbye to someone you knew personally. And knowing that by watching hem grow up, you had aged quite a bit, and more quickly then you would have liked.
"You can change it into a card of some sort, for the places you should shop in. That way you can't spend it where you shouldn't--such as candy stores." Of course that was only a suggestion, the Professor had always had a skill for saving money, and investing it. Otherwise the lab would have downsized a long time ago.

<She's definately one of the lucky ones,> Ace nodded, <being able to eat as much junk as she does...It's probobly due to all her running around that she's staying healthy.> At Skie's outburst, Ace merely shrugged his shoulders, and Brute didn't even seem to notice. <She's very energetic. She's like that all the time.>
"No, no, no," Skie laughed, a bit embarrassed now. "I'm fine. I'm just a bit loud sometimes."
Brute snorted, and Ace kicked him.
She grinned again, "And the card thing'd probobly help. I think I'll do that," she nodded. She sighed, pausing as thoughts roamed about in her head for a second or two, before she looked over at her two Pokemon, whom were conversing with Bill. "Thanks agian," she said, "We've been lookin' forward to this day for a looong time."

<I can see that--and she has only been here a few minutes.> Bill grunted to the Charmander and Growlithe. Then he listened to the two pokemon , and nodded. <Of course. Most people do not start acting like that out of the blue.> It was odd to see someone else runnign around their house and grinning. Well without wanting a pokemon anyway. If they were there for another reason, and were smiling like that--then they were either another Professor, or SKie.
"Well at least your vocal cords are well excercised." The Profesor siad with a slight grin. "Good you are alright though--" James added hurriedly, hopefully he had said nothhing to offend Skie, he hadn't meant to call her too talkative or anything. People that were too loud never gave anyone else a chance to speak, Skie was courteous enough.
It seemed everyone took his advice, or at least considered it. That he found sad in more ways then one. After all--he did't want to help anyone make the wrong decision. But what could this innocent piece of advice do? "So do most others--and it's no problem." The Professor was oddly good at goodbyes, even though he hated them with passion, years of them had made them a master at ignoring any pain they may cause. "So do you play on being a trainer--or?" Well by that he meant a breeder, coordinator, or a odd job that didn't involve gyms at all.
