It had been quite some time since he had awoken this early. The sun was hardly above the horizon, but Rey figured that this was for the better. He moved a hand over his mouth to cover a large yawn. The earlier he rose, the more time he would have to get ready. He stumbled out of an unfamiliar bed and headed for the too-small bathroom to shower, to relax his muscles; he had stayed overnight in a cheap hotel, and the bed just wasn't comfortable. But, it was better than sleeping in a tent, although nothing could have been as nice as his bed back in Oasis Town.
After paying, he exited the hotel, but not before checking the time. There really was no set time for him to arrive at Professor Mahogany's laboratory, but he didn't want to arrive too late in the day, when they would undoubtedly be busier.
A little late, but yes, Rey was going to get his first pokemon. He knew all the information that required one to be a trainer, but for some reason he had just never bothered to acquire one. That is, not until he saw his brother again last month. That had just sealed the deal. Rey laughed at himself. How idiotic he must look coming to a lab, to get his first pokemon, at this age. It would have been slightly embarrassing, if he actually cared what bystanders thought about his twenty-two year old self.
Not too long after leaving the hotel, Rey reached the beginning of the thin gravel path that lead to the front of the lab. He surveyed the land around him, taking in the lab that lay right in front of him. Taking a deep breath, he started walking forward, his pace a casual walk. He wasn't in any real hurry, but anticipation was starting to get to him, so why not speed it up a little bit?
Rey reached the large, steel door and stopped. The list of starter pokemon immediately caught his attention and he looked over it closely. There were two of grass, water, and fire. Difficult decision, he thought, shaking his head slightly. He had no clue which to pick. But, by the time someone came and assisted him, he was sure he could make up his mind. He glanced quickly at the steel sign above the list and read it aloud. "Please knock," he repeated the words, raising a fist to the door and doing just what the sign commanded.
As he waited, Rey turned away from the door and looked at the area around him again. The sun was now low in the sky, so Rey figured it was around eight or so. Surely the Professor, or at least an assistant, would be awake at this hour, right? Rey shrugged lightly to himself and stuck his hands in his pockets, awaiting an answer.

The Proffesor, Who was ready to work for the Day, Sipping a Cup of Coffee and reading a "Pokemon Fossils Issue 4" Magazine began to start off his Day early, By waking up at 8:00 AM. He had been up anyway, Due to Bill making constant sounds and making weird noises. Proffesor Mahogany approached the Door as he heard somebody knocking. Bill, Who followed him behind, Had a suspicious look on his Face. Opening the Door, Proffesor Mahogany greeted the Trainer, and half-stared at her, It wasn't often to get older Trainers like this, Or perhaps it wasn't a Rookie, Could it possibly be someone else?
"Oh.. Um.. Hello, Can I help you?" said James. "I don't suppose your here for a Starter Pokemon, Are you?" asked James with curious expression on his sleepy Face. "Either way, Do come in!" said James who leaded the Girl into the Lab. "Please just cal me James. And do have a Seat, I will boil the Kettle for a Cup of Coffee if you'd like one." explained James, Who seemed to be happy with having a visitor.
While James was in the kitchen, Bill snook into the Room, With a suspicious expression on his Face. "So, What do you think your doing in my Lab?" said the Alakazam, Who was quite serious. He was nothing but a mere Alakazam, That JAmes owned, But he acted like he was all that. Walking back into the Room, James told Bill off and asked him to leave. "That will be quite enough for today, Bill. Run along now" sighed James.
"I'm very sorry about my Alakazam, Mrs., He is a little over-protective sometimes, And, Well, He doesn't trust anyone, Only me. Don't mind him, He does it to everyone who steps inside this old Building." said James, With a half-smile, half-frown. "So what brings you here today anyway, Mrs., What is your Name? Do you need of me for a certain situation? Need advice on your Training? Want me to study a Fossil for you?" asked James. The last thing on the Proffesors mind was that this Girl wanted a Starter Pokemon.

(James doesn't own the Alakazam. Bill has no Pokeball and it is his choice to stay in the lab.
And Bill is worse then your squirtle, because the professor asked him to leave he'll make himself a fixture in the room)

ooc;; Rey's a guy.. xD Bic;;
Rey took a small step back, still facing away from the door. He watched intently as the sun continued its journey to the top of the sky, and as the few flying pokemon flitted about, ready to start their day as well. A small, content sigh escaped his mouth as he watched. I could do this all day, he thought, lips tugging into the smallest smile. It was pretty tempting. If he acted now, he was sure he could sneak off and go sit under some tree all day, watching the different pokemon go about their business.
The quiet sound of the large steel door opening almost caught him off guard. He supposed he didn't need to choose whether or not to do this anymore; the Professor had chosen for him. Rey turned slowly to face the man at the door and half-smiled. The man was staring at him for some odd reason. Did he do something to offend? He dismissed it. At least he seemed to be awake. Rey would probably feel a little bad if he happened to wake someone up.
"Actually, I am," Rey admitted, wondering if it was really all that strange.
Did no one actually wait to get involved with pokemon anymore? Or were all ten year-olds going off on their own little journeys these days? Rey could only shrug it off now; the Professor was already ushering him inside. He took a step and entered the lab, taking the time to wipe his feet on the small mat. He managed a look around the lab, carefully taking in all of the shelves, noticing how three rows were completely filled with rubix cubes. He wondered if anyone really had the patience to solve them all. Finally, Rey's eyes settled on the Professor.
He simply nodded, taking a seat where James directed him, and called after him, "I would, thanks."
With James out of the room, Rey took this time to look over the room once more. Two desks sat opposite each other; one a complete mess with tons of paper work strewn across it, the other very neat. Behind that was a smaller bookshelf, but this one had only what seemed to be journal entries and similar things. He tilted his head slightly, almost wishing he could go through and read them all. I'm sure they'd all be pretty interesting..
Before he could think of or do anything else, an Alakazam had spoken to him. He examined the psychic pokemon closely, an interested look upon his face. Rey opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by the Professor, who was reentering the room.
"No need to apologize," he said coolly, shrugging. "I like psychic types, so I can't really say anything negative about him."
Rey managed another grin, wondering where this conversation would lead to. Obviously the Professor thought he was too old to be getting his first pokemon, or something similar. But who could blame him? Rey was getting pretty old.
"My name's Rey, sir," he said, remembering to use his manners, although the man had said to call him James. "No fossils today, or training advice for that matter. What you said first was right. I'm actually here for my first pokemon." He paused for a moment, getting the feeling that the Professor would think it crazy. "Don't get me wrong, James, I know plenty about pokemon, I just figured I would wait until I was older to finally get one- wait until I was more capable of taking care of one, you know?"

Of course. The Alakazam had moved across the room, and had seated himself in the leather arm chair behind his desk, with ah huff he leaned his long face on one of his three fingered palms. James had gotten his hopes up for nothing, the Psychic type really had no idea why his friend insisted on being so damned optimistic. A vision of james welcoming a serial killer into his lab came to his mind, causing his sullen face to break into a smirk. Of course this was soon wiped away as Jame's wiped the crestfallen look off his face.
Oh. So it wasn't a adult coming to have a ocnversation with him. No it was just another new trainer, not that he minded, besides this one seemedm ature, and polite enough. Of course no one was polite enough not to get on Bill's nerves. "Bill can ya clo--" Before he could finish the word door, or its prior accompament the door was closed, he hadn't seen the face the Alakazam had made, so he didn't tink nothing of how quickly the order was obeyed.
The Professor laid the tray on the table, the one holding the coffee, there were three, one for the Alakazam. Who would levitate it over to his own desk when he was good and red. Of course he didn't offer a hand to James, who needed the little excercise he could get, even if it was just walkig across the room to lay a steaming porcelain cup in a younger man's hands. "It's hot." The Professor cautioned as he did so. Walking back towards the middle of the room, and his own cup of silky black energy he listened to the man talk.
"I really don't have a preference for type. ' The Professor made no more of the previous incident then he needed to, if he did Bill would become pissed, and now he regretted giving him the order to leave the room. After all if Rey had been a psycho then he had been his only protection between him and the odd fellow. He'd apologize later. "Yes. I did nothing out of the ordinary James. I just didn't sugarcoat my words as much as you old friend." The Alakazam piped up, finally a trainer who did't mind him.
"Pleasure to meet you, correct Bill." The Alakazam merely grunted, and turned toward the Bookshelf behind his desk, and picked up a large journal, which he dropped to the desk with a thump, a clod of dust rose from its pages when he did so. "Sorry If I made you feel awkward, it's not uncommon, you were just so at ease around Bill--I jumepd ahead--" Older trainers were not at all uncommon in Remoor. "Thats a wise idea--and since you are older, then you likely want a more mature pokemon hmm?" Those would be the special pokemon, not the last two of course, but he had the option to pick from everyone before. "Psychic......" Hmm. Judging by his personality he wagered he had just the little pokemon. (Sorry Clyde. You can reply again --..-- I haven't done a lab post in a while, and I don't need to become rusty.)

Rey watched the psychic-type as he moved across the room, seating himself in a comfortable-looking arm chair. He could have sworn he he saw the pokemon smirk, and he couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking. Something amusing, no doubt. Just from the way he had been spoken to previously made it painfully obvious that Alakazam was very intelligent, so, presumably, his sense of humor would be more... sophisticated? That's not the right word, he thought, wanting to laugh at himself for not being able to think of anything else.
"Whoops," he said in a low tone, and he wasn't even sure if anyone else heard him. Dark green eyes slowly moved to the door- the door that was already closed by the time Rey's eyes rested on it. "I apologize, I probably should have closed that when I came in."
Though, he figured he shouldn't really worry about it. Alakazam had taken care of it in no time at all. Rey was almost jealous. Being the laid back person he was, perhaps more-so lazy in this case, he sometimes wished he could do simple tasks with his mind. Not having to move to flip a light off or on, or simply close a door, would be... nice.
"Thank you," Rey said with a nod, graciously taking the small cup from the Professor's hands.
How long had it been since he had had a nice cup of coffee? Too long, he finally figured. Taking a small sip to gauge the temperature, Rey nodded thoughtfully at the Professor's words. "I can't blame you, really. I have a few other favorites, but for some reason psychic-types are just... fascinating." He switched his focus to Alakazam and grinned slightly. "I suppose you're right. All you really did was ask a question."
"Pleasure's mine," Rey said, taking another small sip of the steaming coffee.
Once the Alakazam turned away from him and toward the bookshelf behind the desk, Rey looked back to Professor Mahogany. A loud thump caught his attention and he quickly glanced back to Alakazam's desk, just in time to see the cloud of dust rising into the air. His eyes fell on the large journal now laying on the table, and again, he wondered what was scribbled onto those pages.
Rey smiled at the Professor's apology. "Oh, no, awkward is nothing for me. It's no problem, really." He pondered over the older man's statement. "Would that really be possible?" he asked, the smile seemingly glued to his face now.
The list of pokemon outside flashed through his mind again, and he tried to figure out which one would seem more 'mature' to him. The smile flattened out slightly when James said the word 'Psychic'. There were no psychic pokemon on that list, were there? So what did he mean?
"Did you have something in mind?" Rey finally asked, anticipation obvious in his tone.

"Oh it's quite alright, it takes about as much energy for Bill to close that door as it does for you to blink an eye." Well in truth it took a considerable amount more, but he was trying to compare it to physical energy exerted, and since it taxed his mind he had little to compare it to. For Bill it really wasn't that much of a effort to close the door, of course he could have used just as much energy getting up and closing it.
Now of course he was to absorbed in his book to do anything, well it was one of Jame's journal, it talked about the pschic gym battle in Hoenn with the twins, and how they had almost lost because James didn;t want to use a Ghost or Dark type, he wanted to try and beat them at their own game. It was a rather funny account.
The Professor nodded his head as Rey thanked him, and replying as manners dictated. "You're welcome. At least I won't have any extras coffee." Normally they had at least a third of a jar still sitting on the coffee maker when they were done drinking it, usually Bill dumped it out. Of course he liked doing it himself, but he usually had a new impatient trainer waiting in the middle room, and they wanted to leave. Turning his gaze sideways it was obvious to see the smirk on Bill's face, and he likely tought Rey was just being a suck up. "I am right." There was no guess about it as he replied to the second statement, his voice completely monotonic.
Rather then start a 'no it's mine' battle James just nodded.
"Yes. It would be-of course you likel won't like what I have--it's a little on the femine sde, though I do ave a fighting type, a ground, a electric/dragon, a grass/poison, along with a bug/flying type." Of course Rey would probably dislike a Smoochum, seeig as most thought Jynx to be the ugliest pokemon in existence, and James had to agree for the most part. They scared him, but maybe he'd like the Bellsprut, or he seemed like a Trapinch person. The professor hated chosing by type, but frankly with Rey he seemed mature enough to think about personality as well. "Oh yes..we also have the standard six on the list outside." Of course they had those, but compared to most labs they had double the number.
"Pick one or two of those and I'll shw you that and the Psychic type." In this case he'd show him the Smoochum, and then the other two, so he could dismiss the female , pity it was, they had been there since opening day this year and not one trainer had picked one up.

Rey listened closely as the Professor tried to compare Bill's telekinetic powers to something so... mundane. He thought about it; maybe having psychic powers wasn't as great as he thought? If it required just as much work as actually standing and shutting the door physically, was it really all that worth it? Not that he knew what was required in the first place. But, he was finally able to come to the conclusion that it was just something that came second-nature to the pokemon, so it really didn't seem like anything special.
Rey stole another glance at the Alakazam, who seemed to be too involved in that large book to notice much else. Again he wondered what those yellowed pages contained, but he eventually shrugged it off and turned his attention back to the Professor. At his words, Rey simply nodded in response. He couldn't think of anything else to say. Was not having any extra coffee a good thing? He was sure the man meant it in a positive way, so the only thing he could do was dismiss it.
He heard Alakazam's reply, but Rey didn't have anything else to say to the psychic pokemon. Instead, he merely took a sip of his coffee, which was slowly, thankfully, beginning to cool.
It was hard to figure out what the Professor was speaking about, but Rey kept thinking, trying to picture the so-called feminine pokemon in his mind. When nothing appeared in his thoughts, he sighed, but realized Professor Mahogany would probably reveal the answer to him soon.
"So many decisions," he finally said, leaning back in his chair.
He pondered over the several choices James had given him. What type did he favor out of these, and which type would be easiest to deal with just starting out? It really depended on the pokemon's personality, but the type of pokemon was just as important. He did happen to like poison types, same with dragon. But, the other types stood out just as much. Once the Professor offered to show him more than one pokemon, Rey relaxed. If he actually knew what the pokemon was, he'd have a much easier time choosing.
"One or two, hm?" he repeated with a slow nod, just to make sure. "If it's not too much trouble, I think I'd like to see the Ground-type and the Bug/Flying-type."

The professor nodded. "Alright then B-" he looked over to the Alakazam, about to call him to get them, but decided agents it. Bill looked so interested in that book.. He shook his head before looked back to Rey. "So Ground and Bug/Flying right?" Before getting the reminder, he went and brought three pokeballs, one holding the ground type, the Trapinch, and the other held the normal/flying type, and lastly the Psychic, Smoochum.
First, he released the Trapinch. It blinked a few times to the dim light of the lab before looking at Rey. Then, looked elsewhere. He didn't seem to interested in what was going on really..Then the Tapiir, who looked at Rey, a little confused as to who he was. It walked closer to him, seeing if he was safe or not. Lastly out came the Smoochum. It looked at Rey, almost dreamily, as if in a trance.
"Maybe you should get to know them a little better by interacting with them for a few minuets, to let them show their ture colors or even chose now if you like."

When the Professor almost asked Alakazam to do something, his eyes involuntarily flickered to the pokemon, who was still currently engrossed in his book. Rey looked back to James as he directed his question at him, but he simply nodded once in reply, as he was already exiting the room to fetch the correct pokeballs. Curiosity struck him quite suddenly then, but being the person he was, he was easily able to conceal it, acting as if nothing was getting to him.
As soon as the Trapinch emerged from its ball, Rey straightened himself in his chair. He was obviously interested in this one, although the ground-type pokemon didn't seem to be showing any interest at all. Next was the Tapiir, who actually kept its attention on him. Rey bit his lip lightly; this was already going to be a difficult decision to make. Especially if he hadn't even seen the psychic pokemon yet.
And, once the Professor reached for the last ball, the one containing the psychic pokemon, Rey's stomach did a small, uncharacteristic back flip. The light from the pokeball diminished and there stood a small Smoochum. Rey grinned at the three pokemon standing in front of him, all of which were very possible choices.
He was already leaning toward the Smoochum, but even though the Trapinch didn't seem too interested in anything, really, it caught his attention as well. Not to mention what these evolved into. Despite the way Jynx appeared, it could turn out powerful if trained correctly. And Flygon did look nice, and it could be powerful as well.
"Well..." Rey finally said, his voice trailing off slightly. He sipped the last bit of his coffee, holding on to the empty cup as if it were helping him out with his decision. He began speaking again, but more slowly than before. "I suppose... Some interaction will help me make a better choice." He nodded, which finalized his decision. He just hoped that he wasn't wasting anyone's time by prolonging his choice.
Standing slowly, he took a step towards the three pokemon in front of him, then knelt so he could be on a more personal level. How in the world am I suppose to interact? he wondered, not sure how to begin. "Let's see. Where to start," he said quietly, wanting to laugh at himself again. This really shouldn't be all that difficult, but of course, he was making it that way. Rey finally decided on asking a simple question- just to guage each of their reactions. "How are you guys doing this morning?"

<What?> <Um..> <Perfect!>
The Trapinch awnsered first, completely lost as to what Rey said, almost gone in his own little world. He blinked at the boy several times before going back to la la land with a dreamy look on his round face. The Tapiir, though, looked a bit more content, and a bit shy as it mumbled it's words. <I-I-I'm d-d-doin-g-g f-f-ine..> it managed to stumble out, even if Rey couldn't understand it, though it knew it, it was still nervous as could be, unlike the Smoochum. It kept it's dreamy stare in awe. She awsnered in a soft, dreamy tone, as if in love. <So how are you handsome.> it asked, coming closer to him.
They were all completely different. Now if you were like anyone else that wasn't a pokemon, it would sound like this.
"Trapinch?" "T-tapiir..." "Smoochum!"
"T-t-tap t-t-apiir-ir-ir t-t-tap.." the Taprii studdered out. While to Smoochum still was close to Rey, staring so intently with a dreamy sigh that any human could make out. James made a bit of a face at the love-struck Smoochum, partly feeling bad for the young bot if he chose it, then might be stuck with a love struck Jinx, which was worse than having a Jinx in general. Those things were the ugliest pokemon, in his opinion. "Well, there they are.." he laughed, nervously. Right now his bet was on the Trapinch.

Awaiting any sort of answer from the three pokemon in front of him, Rey decided he'd feel more comfortable if he simply had a seat. So, he did just that. He now sat Indian-style, his back resting lightly against the bottom of the chair he had previously been sitting in.
As each pokemon answered, Rey examined the way they reacted to his question, and then the tone of their voices as they actually replied. Trapinch still didn't seem all that interested, unfortunately; it seemed it was off in its own little world, caring about next to nothing. Tapiir seemed to be a bit timid. It was, suddenly, around someone it didn't know, so Rey couldn't really blame it. Smoochum on the other hand seemed to be completely at ease, or just completely infatuated with him, which took the young man by surprise.
Before making his final decision, Rey took the time to play out a battle scenario with each pokemon in his mind. He imagined himself giving a command to Trapinch, but saw that the ground-pokemon would probably just ignore it, or make a move on its own. Now giving a command to Tapiir, he saw the timid pokemon backing away from an unseen opponent, struck by fear or something of the like. Lastly, he instructed Smoochum to attack, but the little pokemon only kept staring at him. Or it could always love me enough to do what I say...
A somewhat-confused look crossed Rey's face for a split-second, but the look was quickly replaced with a calm smile. He looked up at the Professor, and nodded a few times. It appeared he had finally made his choice. But before saying anything, he glanced over the pokemon one last time.
"Alright, I've made my choice." He looked up at James again, still sitting in his little spot. "Apologies to the other two, but I'll take Smoochum."

James made a face. Surprised by the desicion, but then nodded, returning the others to their pokeballs. <Really!? really, really, really!?> The Smoochum asked surprised. <Oh yes!> It seemed to celebrate on it's own before being returned to it's pokeball. "Here you are then." The professor said, handing the sitting Rey his things.Nickname: ---- Species: Smoochum Personality: --You choose-- Level: 5 Attacks: Nickname: ---- Species: Smoochum Personality: --You choose-- Level: 5 Attacks:[ul] [li]Pound [/li][li]Lick [/li][/ul]

Rey didn't miss the face that the Professor made, but couldn't help but smile at it. He almost had to agree; any normal person would probably end up choosing the Trapinch. But, Rey had done the exact opposite, and he practically had no clue as to why. Well, besides the fact that Smoochum would evolve into Jinx, which he had no objections to.
"Many thanks," Rey said as he stood slowly, grasping the pokeball and items James handed him.
Glancing down at his things, Rey couldn't keep the smile off of his face. So he had officially started on "journey". He made his way to the large steel door at the front and glanced back at the Professor. "Oh, and thanks for the coffee," he said with a chuckle, opening the door and exiting silently.
