It was a pretty nice day, overall. Not too sunny, but not really cloudy either. The air carried a fresh breeze from the west, which pulled up goose-bumps on anyone who walked down the street with bare arms or legs. Still, it wasn't too cold. The clouds covered the sky partially, and one could see the direction they were coming from if you squinted and stared up into the sky long enough. The wind was westerly up there as well, and was blowing in stormclouds. For now, the sun was only partially covered. The storm (or rainfall - whichever it turned out to be) probably wouldn't arrive until nightfall or beyond at this rate.
It wasn't perfect weather for a bike ride, mostly because Jareth wasn't very resistant to the chill. But he had gotten on his bicycle and pedaled towards Vhenkil Town anyway. Actually, he was planning to visit the Emerald Forest for a little while and maybe catch a second pokemon to add to his team, but there was no problem with sticking to the path the first time and going back through the other way later, was there? No. In any case, when he went back through it would be nighttime, and even though there was a good chance of getting lost, Jareth wasn't worried. He was confident in his and Kas's sense of direction, not to mention their battling ability once they left the safety of the road.
For now, all those worries were farther away. He had come to the town with one specific purpose: to visit Oak. He'd remembered that she was supposed to get her first pokemon sometime soon, and decided to stop by for a little while to see if she'd gotten it, or just hang out. Whichever. He wasn't quite to the edge of the forest yet, and so he was trying to keep quiet so as not to scare any local pokemon. Jareth didn't much feel like getting into a battle just yet. He pedaled his bike slowly, weaving from one side of the path to the next, as Kas ran alongside him. The nidoran may have been small, but he had a lot of energy, and having him run alongside the bike was a perfect outlet for that natural exuberance - not to mention a convenient deterrant for wild pokemon.
Jareth finally made it to the edge of the forest, glancing down at Kas to make sure he wasn't too tired before speeding up a bit. Kas kept pace well, and Jareth continued to speed up until Kas was sprinting alongside him. He was giving the nidoran a last burst of exercise before the end of the ride. Once they got into town, Jareth slowed down and circled around the pond a little to let Kas cool off, before he finally stopped. Kas was panting, but clearly happy as he ran towards the pond and waded in partway, dipping his nose to take a long drink of the cool water.
Meanwhile, Jareth parked his bike next to the Pokemart and pushed his hair away from his face, before straightening his shirt a little bit. He'd worn his more casual clothes today: Black running sneakers, a pair of dark grey-blue jeans, and a deep red overshirt. He had also brought a jacket along with him, but it was one of his favorites (black suede), and so he hadn't wanted to wear it while biking. Now that he had stopped though, he pulled it out of the plastic saddlebag on the back of his bike and put it on, smoothing out the rumples.
Once Kas had rejoined him, Jareth set about finding Oak. It could be quite a task at times, given how easily she tended to be able to run off and get into trouble.

((Hmm, since they're friends, I'm guessing Oak knows Kas, too? *reads back through Jareth's bio* Yeah, I think that would work. If you want me to go back and change it to her never having met the little Nidoran, then just tell me and I'll fix it :3))
Oak was, as usual, out exploring. She couldn't stop herself, because even though she knew she had seen almost all the plants that lived in Vhenkil Town, she still couldn't help but wonder if there were any that eluded her observant green eyes.
The brown-haired girl, even though she was out traipsing through nature, was wearing a bright orange, thin-strapped dress with pleats in the skirt (which stuck straight out when she spun in a circle--she tested it :3). Her neck was entwined with two flower necklaces, one of pure white Daisies and one of sky blue Forget-me-nots. Well, the color of the sky when it was clear, not as it was now, with gray starting to trickle in from the clouds. As usual, tucked over her ear was a large yellow sunflower, which made her hair seem darker than it really was.
Oak was currently running through a field of tall wheat, which was only up to her neck. Normally, if it were full-grown, it would be far above her short little head, but it was still the middle of growing season. Her legs from the knees down--that is, the parts of her legs that her dress didn't cover--were covered in small scratches from the wheat stalks and from a couple of times when she had fallen. She wasn't the most graceful of all people.
It was at the top of the wheat-covered hill she was running through that she paused for a breather. She bent over, resting her hands on her knees and panting. She wasn't in the best of shape apparently, either.
But when Oak straightened up again, she was surprised to see through the stalks of wheat, at the bottom of the hill, a familiar face. Jareth was parking his bike next to the little Mart, and Kas was lapping at the water in the pond. The teenager grinned, that pond had some of the best water, since the plants the town had planted around it kept the dirt out of the water and purified it of any metal or chemicals. Granted, it wasn't the best water in Remoor, but it was pretty darn tasty, and Oak would bet her money on that.
A huge grin broke out on her face at the sight of her friend, and as she trotted through the rest of the field towards where he was standing, she giggled to herself when he smoothed out his jacket. He was so meticulous sometimes, she couldn't help but laugh. Especially considering how sloppy she was.
"I'll be back, guys," she called over her shoulder to the field as she stepped out from the wheat. She didn't like leaving without a parting word, even though the wheat knew she always came back.
And then, with a large grin on her face, Oak started running down the grassy hill. It was just short grass, and no buildings, so she didn't have to worry about dodging things. As soon as she was within hearing distance of her friend she started shouting, "Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa--" dragging out the 'a' as her bare feet flew over the ground, bringing her closer to the man and his Pokemon. She finished with "-reth!" as she leaped through the air from a few feet away and smashed into Jareth's back, knocking the wind out of her chest and making the world spin before her eyes for a few moments.
But Oak soon regained her senses and wrapped her arms around his neck (not hard enough to choke him, she's not that stupid). "Hi!" she chirped in a cheery voice, talking quite loudly, almost right in his ear considering she was now latched to his back. "Didn't know you were coming down here!" she said, always delighted to see her friend, who lived quite far away.
The small teen looked over Jareth's back at the purple fox-like Pokemon, "Hiii Kassy!" she crooned, giggling and pronouncing the nickname like 'Cassie', "I expect a big hug when I get down there!" she called to him, making a rather inelegant kissy face. She loved teasing the Nidoran, she knew he didn't like anyone but his trainer touching him. Oak loved the little guy to death, and she never meant the teasing to insult him, she just loved seeing him fume--and he usually got over it pretty quickly. Usually.
((Zomg... I totally apologize for the crappy-ness of this post, I'm just sucking lately at Rping ^^; And I hope the whole 'latching onto his back' thing wasn't powerplaying... I think it's sorta teetering on the edge... Hope it's alright with you! It's the way I imagined Oak would react xD))

Ooc: Pfft. *waves hand dismissively* That's totally fine. I don't care about that kind of stuff outside battle. It's cool. xD /Ooc
Jareth wasn't entirely sure where to start his search for the girl he'd come to Vhenkil Town to see. Ordinarily, there were a number of places he might immediately check, but when it came to her... Well, there were only a small number of places he could cross off his list, and all of those were indoors. That left... Well, everything else, really. There was the forest he'd just biked through, the fields on one side, any number of small trails in the area... Jareth couldn't hope to find her in less than three hours unless he had some idea where she'd gone. Kas was a decent tracker, but he couldn't help either, since there were no tracks to follow anyway. That left him right back at square one.
Thankfully, this was an easy problem to solve. Vhenkil was a fairly small town, especially compared to the huge city that Jareth was more familiar with. Back in Sky Reach, one could walk the streets all day and never see the same person twice. Here, one could scarcely wander for ten minutes without meeting several people more than once. It was quite a change, but a refreshing one. He liked towns like this, really. Jareth doubted whether he could live somewhere like this though. It was far too tiny. There wasn't as much to do. There weren't new places to explore every day (of course there were in the forest, but Jareth was more of a city person, and didn't like to just go galavanting off into the woods without a reason). There were no labs, no libraries, no electronics stores... Nothing like that. Not only that, but the people here tended to be very simple. They weren't stupid - far from it - but they didn't seem to have the same drive that city people did. Life was slower here. Jareth couldn't live a slow life like this.
It didn't take long for Jareth's thoughts to get back on the right track. He needed to find Oak. The reason he'd gotten on that topic in the first place was that he knew that someone must have seen Oak run off to wherever she was now. Surely she told someone where she was going, and he knew she was fairly well-known around the town anyway. Right on time, an elderly couple that Jareth recognized (he'd seen them the last time he visited) came into view around the corner of a nearby house. Jareth waved to them a little, waiting until they approached to speak with them. "Good evening." he said, a little overly formal as usual. The couple nodded slightly, and Jareth asked, "Have you seen Oak lately? Or do you know where she went?" The man shook his head slowly, but the woman nodded. "She ran off to the wheat fields earlier this afternoon." she said. "Thank you." Jareth watched the two walk away, then looked out towards the wheat fields. That could take a while to search... The wheat was about chest-height on him, but that meant it would probably brush Oak's chin. She could be hiding anywhere in there.
"What do you think, Kas?" Jareth asked, turning towards the pond where Kas was now swimming about happily in the chilly water. Jareth would have been shivering already, his lips turned blue and goose-bumps all over his body, if he had dipped himself in that water for even a few seconds. Then again, he was chilly as it was, even dry. The nidoran paused in his swimming and treaded water, looking quizzically at Jareth. "Want to go for another run?" Kas seemed less than thrilled at the idea, but Jareth had no time to suggest anything further. A female voice, calling out a very long "A" sound, was echoing around the buildings, and Jareth couldn't really tell where it was coming from. If he'd looked at Kas, he would have seen the nidoran looking directly at Oak, but he didn't. He didn't, and so he had just barely begun to turn around when he was fairly tackled from behind, the name that the girl had been shouting turning into his own as she finally finished. Of course, that was the last thing he was paying attention to at the moment.
Jareth may have been fairly tall, but he wasn't the strongest or sturdiest guy around. Small as Oak might have been, she still provided a lot more weight than he was used to carrying, especially when she leapt on him like she had. He staggered forward, trying desperately to keep his footing instead of simply falling over as she seemed to latch onto his back. Thankfully, she was smart enough to put her feet down on the ground soon enough, and Jareth could turn his head to look back at the familiar face. She still had her arms around his neck, so he couldn't turn around all the way, but he didn't honestly mind. "Hello." he replied, a bit of a smile reaching his face as he noted how happy Oak was to see him.
Kas glowered at Oak as she suggested hugs. He snorted a little bit, slapping the water with his chin almost as a warning. He rarely used "poke-speak," as it was called by most trainers - at least around humans. He wasn't very talkative with pokemon either, but with humans he throught it utterly pointless to try to speak with them. Instead he simply continued to glare for a few more seconds before climbing out of the water, only to go over to another bank and slip right back in again. For a non-water type, he seemed to like the water a lot.
Jareth, meanwhile, was trying to disengage himself from Oak's embrace by holding her arms up while he ducked his head underneath. Once he was able to turn around and face her, he explained the reason for his visit. "You mentioned getting your pokemon around this time, so I thought I would stop to see if you had gotten one yet... Also, I wanted to look for a pokemon in the forest." he gestured towards the trees vaguely as he said this, implying that the new pokemon wasn't his main reason for coming. He spoke quietly, as usual, using no more volume than was necessary considering how close Oak was standing to him.

Oak's eyes widened when Jareth slipped out of her grip. Sneaky little bugger.
"Oh, a Pokemon?" she laughed, rising up onto her tiptoes from the excitement that welled up in her small body at the thought of getting a Pokemon. "Not yet! I was planning on leaving sometime tomorrow, or maybe the day after," she said with a vigorous nod.
When her friend mentioned going into the forest, Oak grinned and hopped up and down, "I can help! I know the forest better than I know the back of my own hand! I think some fairies live there, in this big old oak tree, but they always disappear when I get close by," she rambled on.
Finally remembering what the original topic of the conversation was--she tended to get carried away--Oak smiled, "I can be your tour guide!" she chirped, eyes glinting, "I know where some of the prettiest Pokemon live, but they're shy, so they run away a lot," the teenager shrugged, "But I guess it'll be fine 'cause you have Kas. I just gotta go tell my mum I'm leaving, you know how she can get sometimes!" Oak rolled her eyes playfully with a grin on her face. Her mom tended to get a little overprotective. It took Oak almost two months to convince her to let her on a journey through Remoor.
"Come on!" she called to Jareth and Kas, grabbing the human's sleeve and tugging him along behind her as she strolled through the cobblestone streets of her town. A couple of times the tripped over the stones-more because of clumsiness than not knowing the road-but she caught herself and continued on, Jareth's coat sleeve still in her weak little grasp.
"So! What have you been doing since I last saw you?" Ochre asked, slowing down to match Jareth's pace. "Building space ships, probably," she said with a sly grin. He was a smart guy, she wouldn't put it past him to be hired to build rockets and space ships.
With a chuckle, Oak couldn't help but think that while her friend would become some well-renowned scientist, she'd always be just some little gardener. No, some little Pokemon trainer. But that was alright with her, she didn't intend to become famous.
((Ugh. I think I use excessive dialog to shield the fact that I totally ran out of ideas after the first paragraph... >.< Grr... I swear, I'll try to make a better post next time!))

Ooc: Your posts are fine! *prods* For someone with writer's block, they're absolutely amazing. 0.o /Ooc
Jareth couldn't help but smirk slightly at Oak's excitement. She wasn't even in the same town as her prospective pokemon, but she was already incredibly excited about it. "I would offer to come with you, but I need to get back to Sky Reach in a few days." he commented. He simply watched, growing more and more amused, as Oak hopped up and down quickly, getting entirely too excited about going into the forest. Really, it was hard to believe that she was sixteen. She acted more like she was eight or nine. She was an intelligent girl, but far too excitable. Still, her antics were endearing. Jareth couldn't remember any time when he'd acted like this as a child, although there had been a time when he'd wanted to go running in the woods. Obviously, there had been a bit of a problem with that in the city, since there were no woods and he wasn't allowed out by himself anyway. He'd outgrown that stage quickly enough, becoming much more bookish.
What was Oak saying about faeries? Again, Jareth didn't do anything but smile a bit - he probably couldn't have gotten a word in edgewise even if he wanted to, anyway. He didn't believe in faeries or anything of the like. Being a science geek as he was, Jareth naturally believed that everything had a logical explanation. Any faerie she might be talking about was probably some kind of pokemon that she couldn't identify, of just a figment of Oak's overactive imagination. Still, this logical mindset didn't stop Jareth from enjoying stories like this - so long as they were acknowledged as being fiction. If anyone tried to pass them off as being true, he tended to try to prove (if only to himself) that the story might have a more logical explanation.
He listened as Oak started jabbering about the pokemon in the forest, and how she would come with him. It seemed like a good enough idea... Kas could undoubtedly protect both of them from just about anything they might meet in there, and at least having Oak with him would most likely prevent Jareth from getting lost. Also, the company would certainly be appreciated in the deeper parts of the forest, where it got dark thanks to the overhanging branches that blocked out the sun - especially on days like today, when the sun wasn't that bright anyway. Before Jareth could say anything in response to her offer (perhaps declaration was the better word to use) to come with him, he was being pulled along by one of his coat sleeves as Oak ran off down the street towards her house.
Thankfully, it didn't take long for her to slow down and move at a pace that Jareth was a little more familiar with. He didn't exercise very often, and when he did it was usually unintentional (such as the long bike ride all the way from Sky Reach to Vhenkil Town, or the swim he'd taken the time he accidentally fell in the river while trying to catch a strange-looking lizard he'd seen by the bank). Thus, he wasn't too used to running, and had hoped that they wouldn't be running all the way to Oak's house. She'd asked him a question though... Jareth pulled himself out of his own thoughts and focused on what Oak was saying instead. "I've been working with Kas, mostly." he replied. "He's getting a lot stronger." Of course, the Focus Band that Jareth had bought him had helped as well. It helped Kas put more power into his physical attacks - which were all he had at the moment, so it was even more useful. Plus, people tended to be a bit more cautious when they saw the yellow and red band tied around the nidoran's foreleg.
Speaking of Kas... Jareth looked back at the pond, seeing that Kas was just climbing out and shaking himself off then. They were fairly far ahead at that point, but Kas took off after them at high speed, and darted ahead a ways before slowing to a walk and glancing back, giving a rather smug look. He'd gotten faster too, and it was clear he was showing off at this point. Jareth shook his head slightly, but his smile was one of approval, so Kas knew that his trainer didn't mind the little show.

Oak smiled and nodded, waving away his explanation, "I didn't expect you to come with, my dear, genius friend," she said with a giggle, "But! I will expect to see you again so I can show you my Pokemon. After I get it, that is!" she added with a :3 face.
Oak nodded again, "He certainly looks more manly than when I first saw him!" she trilled with another giggle, "Manly Kassy!" When the Nidoran caught up and gave them a smug look, Oak stuck her tongue out at him, "I bet I could beat you in a race!" she dared, puffing up her chest. She probably couldn't, but she liked running either way and had no problem with losing a race. But now wasn't exactly the time, Oak had a mission!
The sky was darker now, with the clouds slowly inching their way to engulf more of the once blue air. Ochre's house was becoming visible behind a few other houses. Her neighbors waved and called out to her and she replied with grins and cheery words. She wasn't just the child of her parents, she was the child of the whole town.
When Oak spotted a rather tall, muscled man out in front of her home, her face lit up, "Daddy!" she exclaimed, letting go of Jareth's sleeve and running to tackle the dark-haired man in a hug. He smiled, hardly moving under her attack, and hugged her back, "I'm guessing you're only home to tell mom you're going out again?" he said in his deep voice, looking up and waving to Jareth.
Oak giggled and nodded, letting go of her dad and turned towards Jareth, "Wait here! I'll be right back!" she said, spinning on her heel and dashing into her house. she shouted loudly enough to be heard outside. But then again, their house wasn't very large--just a cottage-like home with one floor and three bedrooms. Enough for their family, nothing more. "Hullo there, Jareth," Oak's dad said kindly to Jareth, smiling--may as well break the silence. He held out a hand for him to shake and looked down at the Nidoran, "And it's nice to see you again, Kas," he added. It was odd for such a large man to have such a gentle personality, but then again, you couldn't expect Oak's family to be normal--I mean, they raised her, didn't they? Oak's mother, a lady with dark auburn hair tied back in a loose bun and an apron wrapped around her waist stepped out of the kitchen and into the hallway, drying her hands on her apron, "You don't have to shout, dear, I'm right here," she said with a raise of her eyebrows. The teenager skidded to a halt in front of her mom and grinned, "I'm going out to the forest with Jareth!" she chirped, rocking back on her heels. Her mom's eyebrows knotted together, she had a bad feeling about her daughter's friend. But considering this was probably Oak's last day in town before leaving, she sighed and waved her short daughter away, "Go on, then, but be back before it starts raining-I don't want you to catch the flu!"Oak squeaked and hugged her mom excitedly, "Thank you, love you, bye!" she said, a mile-a-minute, and ran back out of the house. "Let's go!" she called to her friend, grabbing his sleeve and taking off down the street, dragging him along behind her. "Byyye Dad!" she shouted over her shoulder to her father, who shook his head with a smile and went back to tending to the garden.[/blockquote] ((Okay, the last post was fine, but you can NOT say that that one was! *cries* I'm disgusted with mahself...))

Jareth shook his head slightly as Oak used the word "genius" to describe him. He never did know how to take a compliment, and actually more often became embarrassed than flattered when someone did offer him one. Thankfully though, he didn't have to answer Oak, for she'd already moved on to another topic (or at least another sentence). He grinned a little at her demand, nodding slightly. "Of course. I'll be in Sky Reach by Tuesday, and you have my home phone number. I can come back once you call." Of course, it wasn't exactly going to be as simple as that. First of all, it took about a day and a half to get here by bike. That meant a day and a half to get back to Sky Reach, and a day and a half to get back here. That was a lot of biking; a lot more than he was used to. Also, there was the reason he was going back to Sky Reach in the first place. He was going back because his mother was coming home for the first time in over two months, and he was rather anxious to see her again. He had about a day before he had to leave in order to get back to Sky Reach in time, and hopefully Oak's family wouldn't mind if he stayed the night. If they did, he could always head back early. He didn't want to be any trouble.
Kas seemed less than thrilled at Oak's continued babying. He rolled his eyes and let out a rather annoyed barking noise, turning his back on the pair and giving them the "surly" act. He didn't dislike Oak though - quite the opposite. He just liked to keep his dignity, and being talked to like a puppy or some kind of small human child didn't really help in that regard. Still... She did feed him table scraps. The good ones too, with sugar and things on them. Not just vegetables and other things. In any case, his dignity was more important at the moment, so he simply turned his back on both Jareth and Oak and continued to trot quickly ahead of them, already knowing where they were headed anyway.
Jareth didn't recognize most of the people they passed, but that wasn't really surprising. After all, he hadn't been out here very frequently of late, and he didn't know any of them personally. Speaking of knowing people personally... Jareth straightened his rumpled sleeve as Oak finally let go, nodding towards Oak's father - who didn't look anything like her. He was extremely tall (compared to most people Jareth knew, anyway), and built like a bodybuilder. Oak ran inside the house, shouting for her mother with such volume that Jareth could hear her all the way out here. He shook his head a little, then turned towards Oak's father as he heard his name. Jareth took a couple steps forward to meet the much larger man, extending his hand to accept the offered handshake. He was always a little hesitant to shake the big man's hand, even though he knew that he didn't squeeze hard. It was a lesson learned from school, when his gym teacher always used to be extra rough with the kids who didn't perform as well.
"Hello, Mr. [enter Oak's last name here]." Jareth replied, nodding to him before following his gaze towards the nidoran. Kas was busily sniffing around the yard, exploring every little hole he could find as he went along. He did look up as he heard his name called, and let out a little grunt in response, but no more than that. Kas didn't talk unless he needed to, for humans didn't understand poke-speak anyway. Jareth rubbed his left shoulder uneasily - a nervous habit - as he glanced toward the house. He really hated to impose by asking if he could spend the night, but judging by the cloud cover it looked like he might otherwise be biking back through the forest in a thunderstorm, which would take a minimum of two hours even without all the rain, and his bike tires weren't meant to get traction in the mud. "Um..." he paused for several seconds after this, trying to figure out a way to phrase his question before he finally just said it. "I don't want to impose, but would it be alright if I spent the night on the couch? The storm coming seems..." he trailed off, not really sure where he'd been going with that sentence in the first place.
Jareth scarcely had time to hear Oak's father's answer before Oak herself suddenly burst from the house and ran past him towards the forest. Jareth was jerked backwards as his sleeve was caught, and he stumbled a few steps before finally managing to turn himself around and follow her. He'd have to apologize for the sudden (and rather rude) exit when he brought Oak back to the house. In the meantime, he'd have to focus on being ready for the battle he was hoping would come very soon. It took barely a second for Kas to dart ahead of them, running at about the same speed as they were, but leading them instead of the other way around. He knew where they were going, after all, and as far as he was concerned the little nidoran was the important one in the group right now. He was the one who was going to be battling, after all.

((Finally posting! Be proud! <3 Heh, and I gave Oak a really lame last name, 'cause I realized she didn't have one xD Heh, and I had to change her speech color to something lighter for the confetti skin, soo... it's easiest read in that skin x3))
Oak's father's eyebrows raised in surprise at Jareth's question, and was opening his mouth to respond when Oak whizzed past and tore the poor boy away. The large man chuckled and shook his head at their retreating forms, his daughter could never settle into one place for long--she was a busybody. He suspected she got that from her mother.
Oak grinned as the wind whistled against her cheeks and blew her hair back. The Sunflower in her hair was wrenched from the dark locks and tossed into the air as the wind wrapped its fingers around anything it could grab. The small girl giggled and kept going, looking over her shoulder at Jareth, and giving him a very mischievous-looking evil grin, "Maybe I'll come to Sky Reach with my new Pokemon and surprise you when the time comes!" she said, returning back to their earlier topic with a sparkle in her eye. She loved surprises, especially when they were for other people.
When Kas tore past them like a little purple bullet, Oak whooped loudly, raising her free hand and cheering him on. "Woo, Kassy! Pump those little legs!" she urged, a huge grin spreading on her pale face. Villagers stared as they passed, running for the forest, but Oak just winked to them and waved.
It wasn't far now to Emerald Forest, and Oak couldn't wait to show Jareth where she could have sworn some faeries were nesting until a Linoone dug under the tree--and her heart held a strange, but strong, yearning to see a Pokemon battle.
Her dad would say she got that from her mother.
((Not too great, but at least it's a post ^^;; Sorry again, Xatchy, for taking so long... I feel horrible about it ))

Ooc: It's cool. ^^ Hmm... I think that, after your next post when they're deep into the forest, you should PM Feather and ask her to send a wild pokemon or two their way, eh? ^^ Yes, that would be a good idea. *nods* /Ooc
Jareth found himself, once again, being helplessly tugged along as Oak ran gleefully towards the forest just over the next hill, her fingers clamped firmly over his sleeve. He could have pulled free if he really wanted to, he supposed, but Oak's antics were actually quite funny, and he didn't mind a bit of a run, so long as they slowed down before they got too far up that hill. Jareth could sprint very quickly if he needed to (he had learned that trick way back in highschool when he'd had to outrun the bullies in his class), but he wasn't meant for distance running. For that matter, he wasn't really meant for any kind of long-term physical exercise. Jareth had never done any physical training in his life - not intentionally anyway. Sure, there had been the mandatory gym classes in highschool, but ask anyone who had ever been forced to take one - that definitely didn't count. What happened in those classes was simple exhaustion, not strength training. In any case, the point was that Jareth was panting by the time they got halfway up the hill, and he was developing a stitch in his side by the top.
He was able to pay attention to what Oak was saying to him, at least, even if he had to huff and puff a little to respond. "If you can run at... this speed the whole way... you'll get there before... I do." he replied, a smile turning the corners of his mouth upwards a little bit in good humor.
Kas, meanwhile, had no problem with running the whole distance, despite his shorter legs and the necessity for the little pokemon to jump over every tiny obstacle in front of him. Small branches, rocks, and a single discarded soda bottle passed under his pounding feet as he kept up the pace ahead of the two humans, his hugs ears pinned back against his head to reduce wind resistance as he ran. The first time he passed Oak and Jareth, he glanced back to look at the girl, her loud noises and encouragement having drawn his attention. He put on an almost disdainful expression at her babying, but showed off a little by zig-zagging in front of them, and even running in a circle around them once as they slowed down going up the hill. The little nidoran was a bit out of breath by the time they got to the top, but he had a hidden trick for getting down the hill again.
Adokas paused at the top of the hill, looking back to make sure that the two humans were at the top and could watch him, before he bounded off the edge of a log and tucked his ears along his back so that the sensitive insides were against his sides. Then, he landed on the thick dew-slicked grass and lowered himself to his belly, sliding right down the hill on his stomach. He would have tried to somersault down, but his horn or the spines along his back would have gotten stuck in the soft ground, and that would have just been embarrassing.
Jareth was hoping for a stop when they reached the top of the hill, but Oak showed no sign of slowing down, and soon they were careening down the other side of the hill, Jareth almost losing his footing on the slightly wet grass as he ran. He wasn't really paying attention to where he was going though. Every ounce of his attention was on his nidoran, who had taken a wild leap off a log and was now sliding down the hill on his belly, looking at once rather comical and very determined. Jareth realized, however, where Adokas's current path would take him. He would hit a low rise, fly into the air, and land right in the small creek that wound its way along the bottom of the hill. "Kas!" he tried to warn, but it was too late. The purple blur hit the embankment, flew up into the air, and with a little squeak and a lot of midair flailing, landed right in the middle of the creek. Thankfully, they were at the edge of the forest, and they were finally able to slow down. Oak loosened her grip on his sleeve, and Jareth jogged over to make sure Adokas was alright.
Adokas climbed slowly up the shallow embankment, shaking water and mud off his face. He'd done a perfect face-plant into the mud, but thankfully the water had washed most of it off before his trainer had come over to him. Adokas's face was a little darker purple than normal. Was it a blush? Well, he certainly wasn't about to explain it to the two humans. He had his dignity, after all. As Jareth leaned down to pick him up, Kas picked up his pace and slipped between his trainer's hands, heading straight for the forest as though nothing had happened. He walked straight into the forest confidently, although once he was inside he slowed down a little to allow Jareth and Oak to catch up.

Oak giggled at Jareth's comment and kept going. When she saw Kas begin to go down the hill on his belly, she whooped again and cheered, then her eyes widened when she noticed where the little purple creature was heading.
"Look out!" she called out, but she was a bit to late as Kas went soaring in the air and splatted in the mud. Oak gasped, worried for the little rodent, and let go of Jareth to run faster - though his owner was faster than she, and by the time she caught up to him Kas was already off heading for the forest.
Finally pausing to let them get their rest, Oak rested her hands on her knees and grinned up at Kas, "Nice landing, Kas," she teased, making a kissy face at the Pokemon. It was almost as if she couldn't help herself - normally she didn't tease people much, but with Kas she couldn't help herself!
After she had caught her breath, Oak started walking again, looking over her shoulder to be sure Jareth was joining her. "We're here!" she exclaimed as they passed into the boundaries that marked Emerald Forest. "Make sure you keep an eye out, there are lots and lots of Pokemon here, and sometimes even faeries!" she peeped, her eyes sparkling. She truly believed that faeries existed. Hey, Pokemon did, why not fae creatures?
As the light dimmed and the trees grew thicker, Oak matched her pace with Jareth's and walked a little closer to him. "Err, it also gets kinda dark in here," she muttered, her cheeks tinging pink and feeling stupid all over.

It lightly pranced around, while singing to itself. <Dance, dance, dance, dance.> It twirled like a ballerina once, and continued to chant to itself and skipped along. <Bright n' sunny, how funny today!> It sang. <I will dance too...Hooray! Eh?> It tripped and fell over a log, before tumbling and rolling down a steep ledge of the ground. <Www-w-w-w-w-a-a-a-a-h-h-h-!> It spaced it's words as it hit rocks and other things along the forest floor, before the little blue ball stopped and sat up. <Ow..> Tear weld up in the little Oddish's eyes as it had a few scratches. <To-today was sup-pose to be h-> He inhaled a bit. <Happy!> He burst out crying now because of the pain from the scratches. It hurt! The little Oddish didn't know he happen to stop in front of a few trainers. It heard a female talk. <F-fairies?> He sniffled. He had never seen that pokemon, or heard of it either. He was a bit confused as to what a 'fairies' was. He looked up to the trainers, eyes big and wide, still full of tears. <W-what's a fairies?>
The Oddish looked young, with a small size, big eyes, and a small, yet adorable voice. Kinda wanted to make you hug him to death and feed him candy. <'Cause I've never seen that kind of pokemon before..> His mother had told him to stay away from trainers, saying they would snatch him away, and make him hurt other pokemon, but his curiosity was getting the better of him, which pushed that memory into the back of his head. He sniffled again, tears drying up, but not the scratched that hurt a bit from the dirt and germs in the forest.

Kas tossed Oak a slightly annoyed glance as she gave him a kissy-face, but he didn't actually respond. Jareth watched Kas move off into the forest, hesitating for just a moment or two before following the poison-type into the thick trees. Oak was n front of him by a couple feet, and he walked a little faster so that he could catch up with her. He needn't have done so, however. They walked into the forest, Oak warning him to keep an eye out for both wild pokemon and the faeries she claimed lived within the trees (personally, Jareth was looking for pokemon more than faeries), but as they moved in deeper she slowed her pace a little and drew even with him, blushing a little as she mentioned that it tended to get a little dark here too. Jareth smiled a little at her, but said nothing in response. He wasn't talkative in the first place, and the quiet noise of the forest seemed like something that shouldn't be interrupted.
Kas slowed down as well, keeping an eye on the shadows as he rejoined Jareth and Oak. He glanced up at Jareth, making a low grunt that was meant to tell his trainer that he was here and ready for a battle if one came their way. Jareth looked down at the little nidoran and smiled, refraining from picking his pokemon up. Sometimes he did wish that Adokas didn't mind being picked up, but thankfully most of the time he didn't particularly care. For now, there were more important things to think about though, like the oddish that had just tumbled down a small embankment and into their path. Jareth stopped, staring at the grass-type as it wailed its displeasure over falling down the small hillock. Kas, meanwhile, looked a little more skeptical. <Faeries don't exist.> he said. <They're not pokemon either.> he answered, his tone relatively flat, but not mean.
Jareth looked from Kas to the oddish, then turned his eyes towards Oak to see her reaction. Of course he had no idea what the two pokemon were talking about, and he doubted that Oak understood poke-speak either, but he was curious to see her reaction. Maybe she knew this oddish, since she came into the forest so often. Who knew? It was entirely possible. Jareth was a little out of his element here anyway; he was a city person, born and raised, and that wasn't likely to change any time soon.
