Corina walked along the path scored through the grass, her new Grista, Marrow, at her side. Marrow was shy, and pressed his warm body against her ankles at every other step, as though reassuring himself that his trainer was still there. Corina was happy with him, though, he was perfect. The exact opposite of her, perhaps, but perfect. He would be much stronger than Skull ever had been, after all Skull had just been a pet, and this young Grista was going to be a warrior.
Now it was only a matter of training, and catching more Pokemon. Corina had huge expectations for her Pokemon, and was prepared to work to get to that level of expertise. Spotting a tree with low hanging leafy branches, Corina decided to sit down and check her map. She would need to know where each gym was, and how to take them on, and which routes she would be facing.
Marrow plopped down beside her, his sides heaving.
"Poor boy, you need some endurance and stamina." Corina chuckled, though she too felt the wear of the short distance on her legs. She wasn't as in-shape as she had been when she was ten and running around with the 'gang'. Turning her attention back to the map, Corina went into a bit of a trance, preparing for the next stage of her travels.

Below on the ground near Corina shadows were visible. One or two now and again, and yet they always disappeared. They were arrow shaped, and obviously were bird pokemon of a kind .Seconds later the silence of the clearing split apart as a loud screech echoed around the clearing. This was followed by a Spearow's koud mocking voice, wich to Marrow resembled the following: <This is my clearing scruff snout, shoo. Your Grista as well.> His voice was being amplified by the nearby tree hollow he was yelling in, making his voice more like a Ursaring's then the high pitched screeches of a flying type.
Shuffling along the branch he peered down through the branches at the girl and her 'pet?'. They were both rather odd weren;t they? One was a dog wh turned into a horse who flew, the other was a hman, who as all humans did got weaker as they evolved. Not to mention lived a much shortler life span then the poemon they 'trained'.At last thats how they thought og it. The bbright breasted Spearow belived that it should have been the creatures with the powers who trained the humans, but no it had somehow been determined it was the other way around. WHich was not in the least logical.

Corina's eyes widened as she looked up and noticed the Spearow screeching at them. She had always admired the moody little bird Pokemon, much more than it's more docile cousin, the Pidgey. Spearow ahd some fight to them. Perfect, She thought, with a smirk.
"Alright, then, Marrow. Let's go about catching him, shall we?" She asked, her smirk fading to be replaced by a serious, determined mask.
"Grist! Grista!" Marrow replied, wiggling excitedly. <Yeah! Fun!>
"Alright, let's go then! Start by climbing the tree." Corina ordered calmly, and the Grista nodded.
Without any complaint, he bounded towards the tree where the Spearow was roosted. Sniffing slightly, he found the scent-trail, and quickly dug his claws into the bark. It wasn't hard to climb up to the low branch the Spearow was on, and he let out a harsh growling sound as soon as he saw him. It wasn't an attack, but it was quite impressive for his age. He moved onto the branch, his weight almost too much for it.
"Alright! Now use Peck!" Corina grinned from down below, scratching at the skin next to one of her nails.
The dog-like Pokemon nodded, flapping his small wings slightly, and dove towards the Spearow, pecking wildly at him. However, it was too much for the branch, which began to snap.

Catching him? They were going to try stuffing a bird in one of those infernal little orbs that Grista had been in? Really now? He did not think so. <Fun?Fun for me? Or for you when you find out about fighting flying-types being a bad thing?> Narrowing his eyes he shrieked his question into the tree hollow, he liked sounding big and bad much better then the high squeaky voice he had been given when he was hatched. Of course that was how birds sounded, and even though he was older then the Grista he was only level 3. Much more mature though by the sounds of this fellows sentences.
Watching the Grista climb the tree he expected him to fall. When he didn't h blinked. That growl was actually pretty intimidating. Not at all like he would have expected. When the Grista ran forward the Spearow jumped in the air, and took flight, the branch snapping below him, the branch below it might have caught the Grista though. Without even attacking he had dodged a attack, and more then likely harmed his opponent. All in a good wing flaps work.
Puffing out his red breast proudly he waited to see what had happened to the peck happy little fellow. He was quite the charismatic one. Hopefully he hadn't been hurt to badly.

As Marrow felt himself plummet towards the ground, he began flapping his wings. Though not the strongest set ever, they softened his fall, and he was only slightly winded when he hit the ground. He knew he couldn't attack the loud-mouthed bird from on the ground, yet he couldn't exactly fly yet...Best to let Corina decide how to handle this one.
"Right, Marrow, go ahead and use a roar attack. But not enough to end this battle. Just a bit, more like a growl, you know? Then get as close as possible to him, climb a tree or something, and use peck again!"
Marrow nodded, threw his head back and let out a roar-like noise. However, it was strangled and soft-sounding, youthful. Without letting the Spearow react, he jumped against the trunk of a tree, quickly gaining his balance on a low hanging branch. Before he could really think, he pushed himself into the air with his strong back legs, to peck at the flying bird.

The Roar had a effect, just maybe not the one the i=girl had been hoping for. The boisteroius Spearow was blown off course. But he was also blown upwards, and out of the way of the Grista's attack. It took him a few seconds of falling and clutching at his ears to realize that his wings needed to be flapped. WIth a loud 'SPEAR!' he pushed himself back up and away from the quickly approahing ground.
That Grista wasn't half bad. Young, and immature, but not half bad, in fact his trainer wasn't stupid either. Odd for a new trainer she must have done this before. His turn. CLutching his wings lcose to his body he spiraled down toward the Grista in his own verison of a peck attack, more like the drill peck he learned later on then anything.

"Ok, Marrow. I know you're gonna want to move outta the way, but don't. Take that attack, whatever, just don't move. As soon as he gets closer, jump up, and use peck again, pushing him down with your paws."
Marrow nodded, waiting...and waiting...Soon the Spearow was within range, and he leaped up, pushing down with his paws. However he couldn't get the peck attack in. Hopefully just shoving the Spearow towards the ground would cause some damage to him...

With a high-pitched squawk the Spearow plummeted to the ground. Jarring his shoulder and jabbing his beak into the ground when he hit. Shaking his head he turned over and began pecking randomly, hoping to hit the Grista. He'd Show him who was boss! Pushing himself back up he took a step forward. That had hurt, and also had told him that flying and ttacking the Grista wasn't going to work as nicely as he had thought it would. So he needed a new idea. (Dont' forget to count the words in abttle)

(460 so far...) Marrow yelped as a peck connected with his shoulder. With a snarl, he pecked back, then shoved out with one paw. He roared, though not loud enough to scare the Spearow away, and made a furious face.
"Good job so far Marrow! Now, to finish this, flap up a bit, then come down as hard as possible, pecking him!"
Marrow nodded, and jumped up as high as he could. His wings flapped weakly, but he managed to get up a little higher, and turned himself about. Then he stopped flapping, and let gravity take him back down. He pecked hard at the Spearow, knowing soon this battle would be over. It would have to be. Soon, no matter what happened. (Now 578)

The Spearow snorted out his beak, watching as the Grista flew up very slowly. Waiting until he had dove down the Spearow managed to scramble to the side and then strike out with his beak, very slowly, much like the speed the action would be done at under the water. This was to avoid tiring himself out more then need be. He was already tired enough. Blinking his eyes he waited to see if the Grista managed to come back to his feet. If he did that kid had some motzy.
Immature maybe, but that little jaw of his did hurt when it made contact. It hurt a lot, which is why he had learned to dodge it. If the babe of this set of evolutions was like this, what could the last one actually be like? Horrifyingly ugly mayhaps?More then likely.

The flying-fire dog let out a yelp as he hit the ground, quite hard. For a moment, Corina didn't think he'd get up, but then he shoved his paws underneath him, and forced himself up. He let out a roar, and charged at the Spearow, anger allowing him to go faster than normal. Without Corina's command, her raised his head up, and brought his chin down hard, aiming at the Spearow's head.
Corina froze, her mouth open slightly. She hadn't expected Marrow to have that sort of anger in him, but perhaps every fire-type did. She hoped the Spearow wouldn't get KO'd, it was starting to weaken now, but was still a good fighter. With a little training, he could be really strong, and Corina had a soft spot for the small, moody bird-like Pokemon. Now it was all up fate. (719)

The roar caused the little flying type to clamp his wings down over the holes in the side of his head, the ones that served as ears. Every time that little fellow used it he became louder, and more obnoxious if that was possible. At least he hadn't shown any sides of being stupid. Staggering back a few inches the Pidgey looked up, and found himself staring into the eyes of the now angry fire-type. All he had done was pay him back for hitting him earlier, and the little bugger thought he had a right to attack im agaiN! Greedy wasn't he?
thwack~! That had hurt! The spearow luched to his feet, and staggered around, wondering hwo the same attack he had just used could hurt so much. Maybe because his ears had already been ringing!? That was it. It was his ears that had been hurt, and the little bratty flaming dog thing had absolutely nothing to do with it! That was prepostourous.

Noticing that the Spearow looked even worse off now, Corina reached into her backpack to grab a pokeball. She enlarged it, and rolled it in her hand. Without much consideration, she nodded at Marrow, who leaped forward, knocking the Spearow over with a harsh tap of the chin. Then she hurled the pokeball at the small bird, watching it open and absorb him.
Shake, shake...

ShakeCLINK~!A successful capture. The Spearow had believed the thunk of the pokeball to be his ears breaking down. Therefore the trainer and her chicken had done nothing. Feeling the calm black of the pokball sink in he stopped his futile shaking of the ball, and shrugged his feathery shoulders. This was rather roomy, and shaking about on the ground made him look foolish. So he had simply decided to stop. Thus the successful capture. There was a good thing about this, his ears had stopped ringing! Nickname: -you choose- Species: Spearow Gender: Male Personality: This spearow blames others for his problem. Corina smiled triumphantly, reaching down and grabbing the pokeball. It was warm, not cold like it had been a few moments previously, and raised it into the air.
"We did it!" She called to Marrow, who was getting to his paws from where he had collapsed after the attack. Corina released the Spearow from his pokeball, and watched as he fluttered weakly to the ground. He looked at her, his eyes piercing. Then he settled himself down, looking injured.
Corina reached into her backpack and pulled out two potions, spraying them over the two small winged Pokemon.
As soon as the Spearow felt the medicine start to work, he fluttered up into the air, his wings pumping powerfully up and down. Corina felt pride rush through her, he was her Pokemon and he was already strong. He let out a soft caw, and she flung one arm outwards. He landed softly on her, near her wrist, and dug his talons into her flesh. It didn't draw blood, but she squeked, and he fluttered up to her shoulder. After a moment, he tilted his head and caught Marrow in his gaze.
<I suppose she's not so bad. I don't mind joining you. But remember, you're not better than I am.> He stated.
<I wouldn't think that.> Marrow answered, his eyes wide and innocent.
Corina nodded, and walked off once more. She still had quite a ways to go on this route, so they had to get started. Marrow pranced at her side, flapping his wings experimentally every so often.
