Oak twirled her dark hair around a finger absentmindedly before dropping the soft strands of hair and using that hand to cover a sleepy yawn. It was a little too early, she admitted that, but she was excited! She could only wonder at how many different kinds of Bug Pokemon this… Professor Mahogany would have! Maybe… maybe he would even let her have a Spinarak!
But she was getting ahead of herself, as usual. The sun was finally waking as well and started to peek over the clouds, sick of its game of hide and seek. Oak tilted her head back and smiled at the feel of the sun’s gentle rays on her cheeks, she could sense the happiness of the Sunflower in her hair as the sun gave it energy. Nature… It was always so beautiful, so… calming.
Shaking her head, Ochre set her jaw determinedly. She wouldn’t get sidetracked today, this was her day to get a best friend, a companion, a fellow explorer and plant lover! And just as she thought that, something caught her eye. A cluster of pale yellow flowers with long petals and dark leaves. Her Plant Guidebook said that they were trumpetflowers, also known as Jessamine. This plant never grew in her town!
Biting her lip in excitement, Oak reached out a hand, brushing it over the flowers. Seeds fell to the ground, and with a grin, she picked as many up as she could and dropped them in her pocket, where other seeds from foreign (to her, at least) plants already rested.
Then, with a hum in her throat and a smile on her face, Oak continued walking towards where one of the locals had said the Pokemon Lab was. When her feet hit a narrow gravel path, she finally saw it… A big, white, cabin-like building. Her heart soared when she saw the flower boxes-so the Professor was a gardener, too?
Speeding up, Oak’s pace bumped to a quick trot, and it seemed like mere seconds before she reached the large steel door. But when you’re as short as Oak, everything seems big.
The short girl had to stand on her tiptoes to be able to see the flowers in the boxes. Simple, just some Pansies, but here and there were scattered beautiful white Columbines. Oak smiled, those two flowers went quite well together, they didn’t fight for space and they shared the resources they had. Not to mention, they sure were pretty looking.
Bringing her mind back to the task at hand yet again, Ochre raised her emerald eyes to the list of starter Pokemon. Luckily, it was just below the height of her head, so she could easily read it. Mumbling to herself as she read, Oak traveled down the list.
“No… no… no… Totodile? No, not my type… A Chikorita would be interesting, I wonder what they turn into… Definitely not a Torchic, fire hurts plants…” Oak chewed on the inside of her cheek, her brows knotting together as she stared at the list. No Bug Pokemon? Not even a little Caterpie? Oak sighed, pushing a smile onto her face. Still, Chikorita was a Grass Pokemon, and Ochre had heard that when they evolve, they grow flowers around their neck…
Raising a pale hand to the door, Oak’s face brightened. She could always catch Bug Pokemon later, with her Chikorita. If the Professor even let her have a Chikorita… Pushing the slight doubt from her mind, The small sixteen year-old rapped lightly on the door, not liking the feel of steel against her knuckles. It was such an unnatural product, steel was…
Once the echo of her knock faded from the shiny metal, Oak stood a foot or so away from the door and waited, her hands clasped behind her back and an excited, but albeit slightly nervous, smile on her face. She couldn't help but wonder what the famed Professor Mahogany looked like... And if he was nice... And at that moment Oak hoped it wasn't too early, though she supposed that when you own a Pokemon Lab, you have to wake up at the crack of dawn to tend to the Pokemon.

The Professor looked up from his pot of coffee. The knock had been very quiet, maye whoever it was needed some sleep. Shrugging his shoulders the Professor walked out of the kitchen, forgetting to turn off the coffee pot as he did so. "Bill did you hear anyone kn--" Then James looked closer at the Alakazam, and nwo it was obvious he was asleep, his long snout was being supported by his bridged hands, and any look of annoyance was gone from his face. James decided that there was nothing wrong with opening the door and finding out, normally Bill owuld do it, but he didn't have the heart to wake him up.
His brown loafer like shoes were drug quietly across the floor, he didn't want to wake up the Alakazam, so he could yell at whoever it was that they were much to early. He was a 9 o'cock all nighter kind of pokemo. James believed that early to rise and early to bed was mayhaps the healthiest policy for resting. Reaching forward he clasped the door handle, it had been a long time since he had doen that, having a psychic pokemon took most of the work out of life. Turning it slowly he allowe the bright morning sunlight to filter through. Both of his green eyes soon caugt sight of Oak, and he smiled. "WHy a good morning to you! Welcome to the---" Inside Bill let out a muffled mumble, causing the professor to drop his voice a few decibels. "Remoor Region Pokemon lab Beckoning with both hands, for her to come in, the professor moved aside, allowing room for Oak to enter. "Come on in lass. But please keep it down--Bill is not a morning person--Pokemon." Sometimes James forgot that Bill was any different for him, none of his pokemon had pokeballs, and could leave when they wished. So to him they were human, not something he owned and ordered about, they listened only if they wished.
Turning away from Ochre he walked into the brightly lit lab. It was slightly comical to see such a kind, tall, and well respected fellow tiptoeing around his own home like a child stealing form the cookie jar. Then the smell of burning glass hit his nose, and his eyes lit in alarm. Gesturing for the girl to wait there he ran brskly across the room, scrabling for the off button on the coffee pot he pressed it down, ignoring the pain on the side of his hand as it touched the hot glass. Deciding he would rinse it out, and try to salvage it later he walked back into the room. The same smile on his face, almost as if nothing at all had happened. Trying to recapture the former tone of quiet he quickly whispered to Oak: 'I am Professor James Mahoghany. James if you don't mind." SOme children were so obsessed with manners that they took offense at calling him anything less then 'The great and well Revered Professor Mahoghany" that became rather tiresome after a while.
At his desk Bill's eyes flickered open, but they soon shut again. Stupid James had went to go outside without turning off the coffee pot. Of course he rarely lefto ut the front door. Not to mention he NEVER EVER talked to himself when he thought Bill was watching. But at the moment the Alakazam wanted to sleep. So his rhytmic, and slow breathing soon resumed. He had shifted his wieght to a more comfortable position though, and had moved hs tail so it hung on top of one of the arm rests, and he was arranged closer to completely horizantal.
The Professor nodded toward the Pokeballs arranged on the table. Yet something about tis girl struck him as innocent, and rather friendly, she had been smiling when he had opened he doro after all ,not glaring at the door and willing it to open. Mayhaps she was too innocnt? Well if she was, then one of the older pokemon in the back might fit her better. Besides since Bill was sleeping she was more likely to earn one of the rarer ones anyway, just because te Professor couldn't resist the temptation to make others feel better about becoming a new trainer. (. .) (Suckiness should be excused--It'll get better)[/size]

((I thought it was a good post ^^ <3))
Oak felt a giggle rise in her throat but choked it down. This... Bill person-err, Pokemon, was most likely sleeping. And as the chestnut-haired girl stepped into the Lab at the Professor's beckoning (she wiped her feet politely on the door mat first, of course), she smiled when she spotted the Alakazam passed out in a chair.
When the Professor disappeared into a back room, Oak bit her lip and gazed about herself with large eyes. It was very... clean. And organized. Her gaze was drawn to the bookshelf. She liked to read, though she wasn't very good. She never was a very smart girl, though when it came to plants it seemed she could remember anything anyone ever told her.
And the rubix cubes tantalized her curiosity. Whose were they? She had tried a rubix cube once, and all she had gotten out of it was a bad mood and a broken cube. They tested her famed patience, and if there was any sure way to piss Oak off, it was giving her one of those demon contraptions.
Shrugging away her curiosity, she raised her eyebrows when the Professor returned. Just now she noticed the faint whiff of burning glass. Maybe one of his experiments gone wrong?
Choking down a laugh at the mental image of Mahogany running in circles with the corner of his lab coat on fire, Oak smiled at James, "Nice to meet you James, I'm Oak!" she chirped in a soft voice, making sure to say it quietly enough that she wouldn't disturb the adorable psychic Pokemon nearby. "As in the tree, if you were wondering. My parents like trees," she added with a :3 face.
It was apparent that Ochre was a people person. A talkative one.
When the Prof--James tilted his head towards the Pokeballs, her eyes brightened. "Choose one?" she asked in a breathy voice, more to herself than to James. Taking a step forward, she stared at the Pokeballs, her eyes glued to the minty green balls that no doubt held Grass Pokemon. Grass was the closest type to Bug, she supposed.
Then, with a sudden change of her mind, Oak spun on her heel-causing her hair to whip into her face in a very inelegant way-and looked at the Professor with a sheepish look.
"You don't, by any chance... have a Bug Pokemon? Like..." she bit the inside of her cheek in thought, "A Caterpie or even something weaker. I would be just fine with a Chikorita, but I might as well take a shot for a Bug Pokemon." she said quietly with a small grin.
"But then again, I suppose it would be just as easy to go out and catch one, wouldn't it?" Oak laughed weakly and pulled the Sunflower out of her hair, twisting it in her fingers nervously. Of course, James didn't seem like the sort to get mad at her for asking for a Bug Pokemon, but you never knew... There was always the very slight chance of bi-polar disorder.

Trees? Maybe not trees but professors? There was a Professor Oak. Along with a Professor Birch, Willow, and (the other escapes me), besides himself. "There's nothing wrong with that. Trees are wise things, that have seen more then we humans would see in many lifetimes." The gentle centinels of the forest had seen love come and go, the evidence it had ever existed curved into its rough skin; trees had seen the species of Pokemon that once were, and had died out; and they had also been there as cities rose from farms, and their brethren were cut down to build those cities. If trees could talk, no more would be cut down, and history books would be unneeded. Of course he was there to talk about a girl starting her journey, not to think about the wonders Trees had seen. "Pleasure I am sure Miss Oak." The professor replied, his face slightly red tinged. In all his deep contemplations, he had completely forgotten his manners.
The professor winked at the girl's question. "I hope so. I can't very well choose for you--" The only things he could advise her on were personalities, he couldn't say anything about their speed, their physical strength, their ability to defend, or how much damage they could withstand in battle. Personality came first, if the personalities clashed then the relationship between Pokemon and trainer would likely be rocky. The Professor blinked when the girl twirled to face him. Surprise stamped on his features.
The Professor tapped his free hand against his chin, a smile creeping its way back across his face. "Well I might have a Tapiir or two." It wasn't everyday someone came into his lab and requested a Bug-Type. They usually wanted a houndour, or a eevee, or something their friends would be jealous of. That had surprised him more then the request itself. Hopefully she wouldn't mind searching for it if it ran off on its own. They were quite good at hiding. Dropping his voice to a whisper , he leaned forward toward Oak. 'But before you pick anything, I do believe you need some breakfast." Unless she rose earlier then he himself, then she likely hadn't eaten yet either. Besides he liked having guests over, today it meant that for breakfast he could eat something other then dry toast. Not waiting to see if the girl followed him he began to walk toward the kitchen. Hopefully she wouldn't be shocked to see the cane hanging unneeded on his arm. From the way he walked, straight up, and friskily, it was rather obvious that the cane was to make him look more sophisticated. As were the glasses, he still had 20/20 vision after all. Hell he wasn't as old as everyone thought, at his age, most retired folks wouldn't even have nightmares about having to use canes or walkers.
Reaching the kitchen counter he hung the cane on one of the cabinet doors. Grabbing a white apron he wrapped it around his waist, and went and stood in front of the stove. Expecting the girl to be nearby he talked quietly: 'What would you want to eat dear? I won't take 'I am to nervous to eat' for an answer." If you started out with a 'I am to nervous to eat' later on in the day it became 'I am to tired to walk', and that wasn't a good way to start a journey at all! Turning to ask Bill what he would like, the professor shook his head the Alakazam had been interrupted in his last nap, which had been roughly three days ago. He was probably tired 'What town do you come from?" Now James just wanted something to talk about, he was annoyed by long awkward silences, especially when they occurred with anyone other then Bill. (Sorry if it seems rather sloppy. I had to write it twice, it erased itself when it automatically logged me out. It was much better the first time--and different.)

((*whispers* Aren't Tapiir's normal/flying? And man, that sucks that it deleted the first one, that happens to me all the time T.T))
Oak swelled with pride in her name. She loved that she was named after a plant, she preferred the name Oak to something generic like 'Jessica' or 'Cindy'. But she supposed that if she had been named something like that she wouldn't be as odd as she was.
Oak laughed at her own expense. Of course she had to choose, it wouldn't work if someone chose for her--it wouldn't be fate deciding which Pokemon would become her best and closest friend. The mention of more Pokemon made her heart skip a beat. Maybe he did have Bug Pokemon after all!
And then James said the magic words. Food! Ochre's whole face lit up and she trotted after the Professor, "Oh, food would be marvelous! I'm so starving I could eat a Rapidash! Erm, but no meat, please, I'm a vegetarian," Oak smiled sheepishly. She always felt bad that she had to change peoples' meal ideas because they'd have to compensate for her lack of eating meat. But she just couldn't bear to eat another living animal, she felt bad enough when she ate plants.
The teenager grinned when she saw him hang up the cane. Apparently he didn't need it, so she guessed he must like carrying it around-or perhaps he was a hypochondriac? (xD)
And at the Professor's questioning what she wanted for breakfast, Oak's eyes sparkled, "Do you have... waffles?" she asked, a grin on her face, "And some ketchup?" A strange concoction, but it was her favorite breakfast food, just thinking about it was making her drool.
The girl glanced at the Alakazam as well. Poor thing looked so tired... "Vhenkil Town," she answered the man's question softly, "Born and raised!" Oak puffed up proudly yet again. Everything about her town made her proud to be a part of it. "Did you know that in Vhenkil, we get some of the rarest flowers on this whole continent?" she said, leaning forward against the counter, her face glowing with wonder.
She really loved her town.
((That was a really short, not-so-great post... I'll try harder next time!))

The Professor grinned. At least the girl realized that asking him to choose was a bad idea. Not to mention she wasn't angry about it, or embarassed, in fact she seemed to find he own naivety funny. Having someone to talk to with a sense of humor was nice, Bill did have a sense of humour, but it popped up at the oddest, and rudest times. So in all truth it was nice to talk to someone who laughed easily, and had an approipate sense of humor.
"Oh. Well that's fine then." In fact it made him rather glad he had very little meat in the house. Bill usually settled for noodles, and soup, along with eggs, and the Venusaur ate the Pokemon Pellets with the occasionally leafy green vegetable. The Pokemon out back were usually fed a variety of food. The lack of meat was explained by the fact that he ate very little, he had seen where some of it had come from, and the abuse disgusted him. Besides when you had to watch dangerous pokemon, and mischeivous hatchlings it was rather hard to get out and go shopping.
Reaching into the fridge he grabbed a bright yellow box, and set it on the counter. Opening it he pulled out two of the waffle packs. Each pack held two waffles, so when he was done he held four of the bright yellow frozen pastries. Walking over to the toaster he popped in the first two, and wen to grab plates. These were of the pottery variety and not paper. "Waffles--" Two plates held in his hand he almost dropped it at the next words from Oak. "and Keytchup...Oak?" Had he heard her right? or were his old ears messing with his mind again?
The Professor nodded. Where else would she have foudn the large sunflower in her hair? After all she wasn't tan enough to be from Oasis town. "Vhenkil is rather pretty." That it was, franly the lab should have been held there, but Barkwish was closest to where the ferries docked, and parents would be angry if their children had to walk through even one route unprotected. A ding from the toaster sent his hand from the plates on the counter, to the toaster, where he grabbed the wffles, then back to the plate, where they droped with a clapping sound. Stretching his arm he managed to pull te door of the fridge open, and grab the red squeeze bottle inside. Balncing the plate on his right hand and holding the bottle with his left he sat both on the table. Then he began to go through the process all over again, after all he had work to do today! "I did yes. It is believed that Shaymin himself stepped on the land and put them there." Did she know of the legendary of peace and plants? Probably not; he was a nerd for mythology after all.

Oak grinned at the Professor's response to her request, and nodded vigorously, "Yup! Waffles are delicious with ketchup on them! You should really try it, you should!" she said encouragingly, biting her lip eagerly as she watched the food get prepared. She loved trying to get people to taste her food ideas, though it was rare when someone would actually take her up on her offer.
Oak chuckled to herself, "It's very much pretty, especially in my neighborhood, 'cause we plant a bunch of flowers everywhere for every season, so it's never bare-even in the winter!" It was obvious how much she loved Vhenkil. In fact, she loved her town so much it made you wonder why she chose to leave it.
Well... when adventure called, her heart answered, so she packed up her bags and prepared herself for the journey of a lifetime.
At the mention of the legendary Pokemon, Oak's heart skipped a beat. She had been told tales of Shaymin since she was barely a baby! The stories of Flower Paradise and the little plant Pokemon ignited her imagination like no other story did! Sure, they didn't know much about the tiny Pokemon and it's home, but she'd still dream for nights on end of just being able to glimpse such a beautiful place. A place of flowers and happiness, and joy and wonder. ((Just had to add that. Go Charlie the Unicorn!))
Once Oak regained her composure, she let out a long breath, her eyes warm and content, "I don't know if our town is quite that blessed, but it's a wonderful thought to think he came there," she said softly.
And in a second her look of peace was gone, replaced with a... hungry look, I suppose, when she realized the waffles were ready (she's a little slow in the head). "Thank you!" she purred before dropping herself in a chair by the table and grabbing the bottle of ketchup.
Without waiting for the Professor's food to be ready--she couldn't sit there and stare at her delicious food for much longer--she drenched the waffles in bright red ketchup, a huge, almost evil, grin on her face. (like this--> )
Grabbing the waffles with her hands (what, you thought she was sophisticated enough to use silverware?), Oak folded them in half together and shoved one end into her mouth, taking a huge bite.
It wasn't until her waffles were finished and all the spilled ketchup had been licked off of the plate--less than a minute later--that she realized it was perhaps rude to eat in such a manner in front of an almost complete stranger.
Oops.

The Professor shook his head, a smile still on his face. The man hadn't been as much disgusted as he had been shocked. "No I think I am alright with syrup in butter. Maybe some other time." Although he was a little disgusted. When the toaster popped up beside him it almost gave him a heart attack, but a\instead he jumped, bring his hand down on one of the plates, and scrabbling to catch it as it rolled down the cabinet side. Which he did, relieved. "I bet it would be nice to have the birght colors of flowers around in winter." That didn't come off of a pokemon's back, or a temparized greenhouse, much like the front section of his backyard cage.
The professor shrugged. "maybe he did it before it was a town, blessed it with fertility of the ground I mean." Maybe he hadn't plnted the flowers persay, but had made it a excellent place for them to grow. Hell the Professor didn't know if he even existed, but with all the odd pokemon he had seen, and the new onesb eing discovered in Remoor, he didn't doubt it for a minute. In fact he believed that all of the rumored pokemon existed, in one way or another.
The Professor laid his own waffles on the plate, and turned towards the fridge to grab the butter and syrup, just to see the girl pick up the waffle, roll it up like a burrito, and take a huge bite of it. Sending little crumbs of red tinted waffle dropping to the table. (Oo) Both of his pupils seemed to shrink, where were her table manners? After a full 10 seconds he managed to pull his eyes away from the rather nasty sight, and continue tiowards the ridge, whereh e grabbed the syrup, and butter. Remebering his fork he laid it on the plate, picked all of it p and strolled towards the table.
Sitting down opposite the girl he managed to tear the eyes away from the circus that was her, eating breakfast. "You're welcome." Then he popped open the syrup, removed his fork from the palte with his other hand, and began sitting up his own two waffles. "Thirsty Oak? We have some beverages in the fridge, and of course water." Hopefully they had water, most pokemon drank little else. Of course the full tiem residents of the lab liked coffee, and miltank milk.

Oak grinned as James nearly dropped a plate, sitting back in her chair and very much content now that she had eaten. At the mention of beverages, she shook her head politely, "No, I'm not quite thirsty right now, thanks," she declined, tilting her head back against the kitchen chair. She was so short that the back of the chair raised above her head!
Some days she wondered what it would be like to be tall...
With a yawn, Oak watched the Professor eat. She often got sleepy directly after eating--but she usually perked up a bit soon after. "So..." she said, simply to break the silence. Times like these made her wish she hadn't eaten so fast. A thought popped into her head, "What made you want to become a Pokemon Professor? And is there some kind of school where they teach you how to give new trainers their Pokemon, or do you just have to make it up as you go along?" she asked curiously, tilting her head to the side.
((GRAAAAARGH!! *slams head into wall* That post was so TERRIBLE!! *cries* I swear, if my moose doesn't find it's way home soon, I'll get a rifle and SHOOT IT! Ugh... I'll post better next post, hopefully *gives moose evil eye*))

The professor nodded, no need for her to apologize, it wasn't as if his house would fall down if she didn't have a drink. Unlike her James opted for the manneristic approach, using a knife and fork he cut the waffles into eight peces of roughly equal size. Seeing as they had butter and syrup on them already that was harder then one might have thought. Most of the time he ended up chasing the waffle around the plate. Nwo that they were cut up he stuck his fork in the first one, pulled it up and let the excess syrup dribble onto his plate. Then he stuck it in his mouth. CHewing slowly he swallowed before following that slice with the next one.
The Professor was halfway done with his fourth piece of waffle when Oak spoke. Swallowing it he turned toward her, waiting for her to continue her sentence. SURPRISE! It wasn't asking him about the baby pokemon, and what he had, no it was about himself! "I really wanted to be a gymleader--but fate said differently Oak. I was forced to apprentice with the old Professor of Remoor instead, seeing as the gms were up to their eyeballs in heirs, and they really thought he needed the help--" Stopping to eat another piece of his waffle he continued: "Well the professor went off on a field study to Sinnoh, and never returned, and I was the oldest there and knew the most--eventaully trainers started calling me Professor--I had been to college after all." Another waffle broke the long string of dialog. Then he turned to her second college. "It's not necessary. But if you do not wish to be called naive by the other scientists and professors it's a good idea."
Then a voice cut through the room, the Professor had slowly allowed the whisper of his voice to ascend the decibels. "James i do believe you forgot my coffee." The Alakazam narrowed his eyes at the girl sitting at his table, and in his chair no less. No matter she hadn't drank out of his cup, or touched HIS rubix cubes. "The best years were when he had no idea what to do--" Of course anything James had failed at was something he wanted to talk about, just to remind his friend that the oldest companions can be the most damaging to your reputation. All the stories he knew!

Oak nodded understandingly, surprisingly quiet. She giggled a bit at the last part about not being called naive, and was just opening her mouth to respond to his story when she was cut off by another voice.
The teenager giggled, "Good morning, sunshine!" she chirped in a bright voice to the just wakened Alakazam, "Sleep well?" she asked, not to mock him but because she was really wondering. He had looked pretty comfortable on that chair.
Oak giggled again at the psychic Pokemon's last comment, "Well, you have to start somewhere, and now just look how far James has gotten!" she said brightly, optimistic through and through. "He's a pretty darn good Pokemon Professor, and he's gonna be the one to give the best gardener in the world her first Pokemon!" she said with a wink and a grin to show she was joking.

At The word Sunshine The Professor burst into a steady stream of laughter. Tears streamed down his face and his waffle tipped fork dropped to The fragile pottery with a loud clatter. "Sun--shine! Stormcloud more like!" Realizing that he was making himself look childish he coughed and sat back up in his chair, his hand going to The fork, and then to his mouth. WIth his other hand he waited until The fork was on The plate, and lifted a napkin to his mouth to hide The blush rising in his face. A siscreet giggle escaped now and again, and The ever Stoic Bill seemed not to care in The least, then again he didn't care about much.
"Until I realized we had company." Walking to The burnt coffee maker The Alakazam wrinkled his nose, and poured himself a cup, revolted at The little black pioeces of burnt glass drifting about inside. Throwing it down his long snout he walked around The table. Sitting down in The chair The other opposite of Oak he raised a eyebrow at The Waffles. "Allow me to feed myself." He said in a drull slightly sarcastic voice. Of course he wasn't hungry and would eat later. He could already tell he and this girl would but heads, he could sense The kindness leaking from her like water from a faucet.
"Not very." Bill replied. The girl just wagered that he had made big leaps, but that was not The necessary case. "Well if kindness could frow into a garden, along wit naivety then you might be The best gardener in The word." The slight smirk on his face was one of triumph, he wagered he had won over The Oak. Saying nothing more he leaned forward and picked up The remaining waffle piece on Bill's face, and stuck it into his tube like jaws. "Of course he will give you a pokemo--" When didn't he?

Oak giggled at the Professor's interjection and grinned at Bill, "Little Stormcloud," she said with twinkling eyes. When the Alakazam sat down in the other chair, the short girl stood, "Oh! I can make you some breakfast!" she chimed, feeling a bit rude for not having offered earlier.
The psychic's long comment confused Oak slightly. If kindness could grow... naivety? What was that? "Uhh... thanks?" she said slowly, the gears clearly turning in her head. She tugged at one of her pigtails thoughtfully for a moment, biting the inside of her lip. Finally she grinned and shrugged, quickly forgetting Bill's harsh remark.
With that old excited glow returning to her face, Oak did a small, skittering side-jig, "A Pokemon! That's right! I almost forgot!" She turned to Professor Mahogany, not wanting to seem impatient or rude, but... she really was impatient to get a new friend, and she used her most polite voice, "Could I get my starter soon? Um, or... now?" she added with a small, sheepish smile.
Oak could almost feel her heart bursting, it was pounding so hard. She had never been so excited in her life - well, she was almost this excited before she got her first bike. Err, which she accidentally smashed into a boulder and broke a week later.
She was going to try not to do the same thing with her Pokemon.

"Little stormcloud?--I am Bill, a alakazam, nothing like a oppressing weather phenoma like a storm cloud. ESPECIALLY a little one." The words were said slowly, hopefully to spell it out for this girl that he meant what he said. After all in what way was he a stormcloud? He was not made up completely of compressed water particles, and he also did not float 30,000 feet or so in the air. "Unless this is one of humans cursed Metaphors." The Alakazam added. Deciding he no longer wished to be in the kitchen with this two giddy humans he stood up and walked back to the main room. Then like he always did he sat down and began to solve various rubix cubres scattered on the bottom rack of his bookshelf. From his chair he heard her call back a undecisive thanks. "Girl, that wasn't a compliment."
The Professor shook his head, a jovial chuckle coming from his mouth as he did so. "That's kind of you to offer Oak. But it's alright, he'll eat when he's really hungry." After all if he hadn't just been trying to be cruel , and was really hungry he would have already fixed himself something gooey and thin snout friendly.
The Professor shook his head in humor at the girl' s antics. "I must say I haven ever met someone who forgot why they came to the lab, just because I gave them waffles." In fact he had secretly been wondering when she was going to ask about it. It had come a little late. "Yes, we can get to that right now if you wish." The Professor stood up, and wiped the syrup from his hands with a handy napkin sitting on the table. "Well we have Chikorita, Torchic, Ralsius, Selibulb, Grista and Totodile. Oh--" He remembered she had said something about plants. "And a single Bellsprout, he has a few problems though." Normally he didn't add that, but this little fellow's problems were pretty bad.

Despite the Alakazam's not-so-friendly tone, Oak giggled at his stormcloud speech. She turned to the professor, "Oh, alright. I guess I wasn't in much of a cooking mood anyways," she added with a grin.
With a sheepish chuckle, Oak nodded and shrugged at the same time, "I get sucked into my food," she chimed. Bouncing on her feet, the short brunette's face brightened even more, "Oh, that would be awesome! Let's go!" she half-skipped, half-jogged to the door of the kitchen, turning to look back at Mahogany as he spoke.
Oak's mind turned the idea of each of the Pokemon over in her head slowly as he said their names, none of them quite popping out at her as Pokemon she'd jump to have become her first companion.
But when mention of the Bellsprout came to the Professor's lips, Oak's eyes lit up, "A Bellsprout?" she chirped before Mahogany even finished his sentence. "Oh, everyone has problems, James, you of all people should know that!" she said with a giggle, motioning not-so-discreetly with her head towards the room Bill was now in.
The sixteen year-old did an excited jig, waiting for the Professor to lead her to the room that held the Pokemon (since she definitely didn't see any in this one). "Is he cute?" she asked about the grass Pokemon, grinning.
